What's open, closed Juneteenth 2024 in Columbus? Starbucks, Target, Costco and more
Heads up! This week's hump day is also Juneteenth.
The three-year-old federal holiday will take place Wednesday, June 19th to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States in 1865.

President Joe Biden established June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day in 2021, making it the first federal holiday to be created since Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in 1983.
Overall, 28 states and the District of Columbia recognize Juneteenth as an official state holiday which means workers receive holiday pay on June 19, according to a Pew Research article from last year.

What services are closed for Juneteenth 2024?
As one of the 11 federally recognized holidays, all government services will be closed on June 19.
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq follow the federal holiday schedule, which means they will both be closed on Juneteenth.
The United States Postal Service will close and there will be no mail delivered.
The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles will also be closed.
As a Federal Reserve Bank Holiday, major banks will be closed for Juneteenth. Here are the banks that will close according to USA TODAY:

JP Morgan Chase & Co.

Wells Fargo
Trash pickup scheduled for Wednesday will take place the following day.

The Columbus Metropolitan Library will be closed for Juneteenth. However, Main, Barnett, Hilltop and Northern Lights library branches will remain open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. as a cooling center. Local pools will also remain open.
Starting on Wednesday, five of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department's community centers will be open.
