Where is Debby? Will the storm hit Philly
Debby, the fourth-named storm of the hurricane season, isn’t even a hurricane yet and it’s already causing trouble in the Florida region and creating concern up the East Coast.
Where is Debby now?
As of now, Tropical Storm Debby is stalled about 90 miles south-southwest of Apalachicola, Florida.
It is currently sitting over the Gulf of Mexico, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to parts of Northern Florida.
Is Debby a hurricane?
Debby is classified as a tropical storm with sustained winds of around 50 mph.
It has not reached the threshold to be classified as a hurricane.
For a storm to be classified as a hurricane, it must have sustained winds of at least 74 mph. Hurricanes are categorized based on wind speed using the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
Will Debby hit Philly?
The remnants of Tropical Storm Debby are expected to reach the Philadelphia area by late this week or early next week, forecasts warn. But it’s not yet clear what kind of impact it will have.
Meteorolgists at the National Hurricane center are closely monitoring Debby’s path.
The next few days will provide more clarity on its movement and potential impacts on regions along the East Coast.
Whether it strengthens to hurricane status and how fast — or slow — it moves will affect its course.
Where is Big Bend Florida?
Tropical storm Debby is currently lashing the Gulf Coast area known as the Big Bend, where the coastline makes a noticeable curve.
This area is particularly vulnerable to flooding and storm surge during tropical storms and hurricanes.
Debby’s slow pace is causing concern for this area as rain totals stack up.
