“It has been three days since Michael left the beach to go for a walk. The longest and most unbearable days for myself and my children.
“The search is ongoing and our family are so incredibly grateful to the people of Symi, the Greek authorities and the British Consulate who are working tirelessly to help find Michael.
“We will not lose hope.”
The couple have four children, who are reported to have travelled to the island to assist in the search.
Mosley, who is 67, vanished after setting off from a beach on the island of Symi. The BBC’s account of his movements includes him leaving Agios Nikolaos beach in the north-east corner of the island at around 1.30pm. He was expected to reach the town of Pedi where he could take a bus back to his holiday home in Symi, but new CCTV footage shows him – carrying an umbrella, presumably to shield him from the hot afternoon sun – apparently making for a mountainous path inland.
Mosley is one of the UK’s best known TV presenters, making his name in a series of nutrition and health documentaries after first working as a producer at the BBC. He is the author of several health books, and is credited with creating the popular 5:2 diet, in which people lose weight by reducing their intake on two days in every week. He also hosts the BBC podcast The One Thing about physical and mental health.
