Willimantic man skips court in truck stop indecency case

WILLIMANTIC — A man from Willimantic is facing a public indecency charge for his antics at a TA truck stop in Willington and has been arrested for skipping a court date.

According to state police, James E. Shine, 77, of Willimantic, was initially arrested at the truck stop on Ruby Road in Willington on May 25.

State police had been receiving calls that a man had been exposing himself and was standing near the front door of the establishment at 327 Ruby Road in Willington.

When police arrived at the truck stop, it was determined Shine had exposed himself and had been masturbating while located at a picnic table located outside the front of the building, according to the arrest report.

Shine was then put into custody and charged with breach of peace in the second degree and public indecency. He faced a bond of $2,500 for the public indecency charge and was due in Rockville Superior Court on June 11.

Due to failure to appear on his June 11 assigned court date, Shine was arrested on July 17. He has a new court date of Aug. 29, after he was served with an FTA warrant, according to state police.
