Woman behind North Myrtle Beach church vandalism apologizes, pays for damages

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A woman who admitted to vandalizing a North Myrtle Beach church’s TV has apologized for the act and paid for damages, its pastor said.

“You know, this was a TV. The next time, it could have been worse,” said Richard Wilson, pastor of the OD Church of the Lost and Found. “Maybe this saved her from making a worse decision. That’s my hope and prayer.”

News13 first reported on the destruction earlier this month after the church was vandalized for the second time in little more than a year.

The most recent incident, which happened on May 9, was caught by a surveillance camera. Four young adults are seen about 40 seconds into the video, taking selfies and waving their arm around.

At one point, they touch an outdoor TV before one of the people punches it and they all run off. The damage was estimated to be about $1,800.

A similar thing happened at the church in April 2023.

Wilson said the TV is hung up outside the Main Street church for anyone walking by to sit down and listen to its message. OD streams services year-round.

Wilson said the woman who damaged the TV wasn’t a member of his church, which declined to press charges.

“If Christ died for my sins and he was willing to forgive me, how could I not forgive somebody else,” Wilson said.
