Woman charged, 16 animals seized from Lynchburg home with “deplorable” conditions

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Lynchburg Animal Control has reported the seizure of 16 animals and an arrest after being called to a home on a hoarding complaint on Tuesday, July 9.

According to animal control, officers responded to the 1600 block of Shaffer Street to find conditions that are being described as “deplorable and unsanitary.”

A search warrant was issued for the address, during which 15 dogs and a pet bird were found living inside the home. Officers immediately seized the animals and took them to the Lynchburg Humane Society for evaluation and care.

Lynchburg City Inspectors were then notified of the situation and condemned the home “due to its hazardous state.”

On Monday, July 22nd, 54-year-old Ashley Elizabeth Owen was charged with five counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty by the Lynchburg General District Court.
