Woman charged with child neglect months after teen fatally shot in Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach police announced that a woman has been charged with child neglect in connection to the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy.
In March, dispatchers received a call about a gunshot victim in the 4900 block of Almandine Avenue, a residential area near Bonney Road. Officers arrived on the scene and found a 14-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. First responders tried to provide aid, but he died at the scene from his injury.
A 16-year-old boy was charged with involuntary manslaughter, juvenile possession of a firearm and shooting inside an occupied dwelling. A 15-year-old boy was also charged with obstructing justice.
Police said Caromekia Parker, 38, is now charged with felony child neglect. Police allege that the firearm used in the offense had not been properly secured.
