Woman dead after found with ‘possible gunshot wound’ at Alta Lake Greenway trailhead, Metro police say

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nashville authorities have launched a homicide investigation after an unidentified woman died Sunday morning.

The Metro Nashville Police Department said the woman was found unresponsive around 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 14 by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employees at the Alta Lake Greenway trailhead off Dodson Chapel Road.

MNPD initially said in a post on social media platform X that detectives from the Homicide Unit were investigating the woman’s “fatal shooting.” However, in a statement released just after 7 p.m., officials said the woman was discovered with a “possible gunshot wound to the head.”

According to authorities, the woman was brought to the hospital, where she died.

Police said the woman appeared to be in her 20s, was wearing dark pants and a pink bra, and had her hair in long braids. On Monday, July 15, she was identified as Jamani Parker.

The Medical Examiner’s preliminary autopsy confirmed that she was shot.
