Woman in her 60s fighting for life after being struck down by 81-year-old cabbie: NYPD

A woman was fighting for her life after she was hit in Brooklyn by a yellow taxi driven by an 81-year-old cabbie, cops said Saturday.

The unidentified woman, who is believed to be in her 60s, was crossing Fourth Ave. and Atlantic Ave. in downtown Brooklyn at about 9:30 p.m. Friday when the elderly cab driver in a yellow Toyota taxi rammed into her.

EMS rushed the woman to New York Presbyterian-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where she remained in critical condition. Cops were trying to identify the woman Saturday.

The cab driver remained at the scene. No charges were immediately filed.

On Thursday evening in Harlem, a 40-year-old driver in a Nissan Pathfinder struck and killed 3-year-old Jaynelyse Valdez as the tot, her 37-year-old mother, and her two brothers, one 2, the other 4 months, crossed the corner of W. 135th St. at Lenox Ave., cops said.

As of Wednesday, 64 pedestrians have been killed on city streets, a 30% jump from the 49 killed by the same date last year.

Overall traffic deaths have jumped by 5% so far this year, from 126 to 133, police said.
