Woman killed by wrong-way driver in Santa Rosa

(KRON) — A 44-year-old woman was killed in a head-on crash in Santa Rosa on Tuesday, the victim’s cousin said on GoFundMe.

The crash happened at about 10:08 p.m. on River Road at Martinelli Road. California Highway Patrol said one of the two involved vehicles crossed double-yellow lines into the path of oncoming traffic. The GoFundMe post said the other driver was the one driving the wrong way.

‘We assumed, as people of a relatively young age, that death was a worry for later. Well, our ‘later’ came on 6/25/24 Tuesday night. When my cousin, my friend, was killed due to an individual’s poor driving skill,” the GoFundMe said.

The victim, whose first name was identified in the GoFundMe as Lisa, died on the way to the hospital, police said.

“My cousin, Lisa, was a great person and friend. It goes without saying that her death was unexpected and unwarranted. And myself and my family, like a lot of others, have been stretched to the limits financially. And an unexpected death like my cousin’s was not an expense we could have imagined having to budget for,” the GoFundMe said.

The family is seeking to raise $10,000 for cremation and a memorial.
