New York man sentenced to 10 years in prison for 2021 Myrtle Beach armed robberies

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — A New York man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday for two-armed robbery incidents that happened on the same day in 2021, the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office said.

Edgar Jeffrey Humphrey, 52, pleaded guilty to the charges just before a jury was to be selected in his trial. James Stanko, along with Elizabeth Bryant, both assistant solicitors, prosecuted the case, the solicitor’s office said.

The charges stem from two incidents.

In the first incident, Humphrey entered a Circle K in Myrtle Beach at about 2 a.m., placed a pistol on the counter, and demanded money.

About 17 hours later, he entered a Family Dollar in Myrtle Beach, about 1.5 miles from the first robbery location, and again produced a pistol and demanded money.

In total, Humphrey received about $90 and one pack of cigarettes from the two incidents and in an interview with law enforcement, he admitted to both crimes, according to the solicitor’s office.

The Honorable Circuit Court Judge Alex Hyman presided over the case and sentenced Humphrey to 10 years in prison on both charges.

Both sentences are to run concurrent to one another and Humphrey must serve at least 85% of the total sentence before he is eligible for supervised release, the solicitor’s office said.

“Special thanks are to be given to the many fine officers of the Myrtle Beach Police Department, especially Capt. Jeremiah Beam and Det. Jacob Duesing, whose diligent work and investigation made this successful prosecution possible,” Assistant Solicitor James Stanko said.
