President Trump on Monday suggested that the ongoing recounts in Florida should be halted and the razor-thin races called for Republican candidates while floating baseless claims of voter fraud. “The Florida Election should be called in favor of Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis in that large numbers of new ballots showed up out of nowhere, and many ballots are missing or forged,” the president tweeted. Trump did not offer evidence of the alleged massive ballot infection.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday that members of his country’s intelligence community had listened to Turkish audio recordings of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Trudeau’s comments, made in Paris during a peace forum to honor the anniversary of World War I, were the first acknowledgment by the leader of a Western country of receiving the intelligence from Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. “Canada has been fully briefed up on what Turkey had to share,” Trudeau said.
A quick-thinking man says he survived the raging wildfire tearing through Southern California by hiding in a creek with his dog. Matt Armbruster told CBS News that he first ignored official orders to evacuate his Agoura Hills home, which was located dangerously close to the rapidly spreading Woolsey Fire. Armbruster told the outlet that he stayed in the water for almost two hours as the fire burned around him, admitting he thought he would die there.
WASHINGTON ― Nancy Pelosi’s bid to become House speaker again is running up against dueling realities: One reality is that she is the most capable Democrat in the House, confident the party’s gains were significant enough to propel her to the speakership, and another reality is that about two dozen Democrats are prepared to block her from the spot. Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) told reporters Tuesday night that he was “100 percent” confident there were enough votes to block Pelosi ― more than 20 ― during a speaker floor vote. Moulton said the members, led by less than a dozen existing Representatives and some incoming Democrats who have said they won’t support Pelosi, are figuring out when to release the letter ― “we’re going to see what makes the most sense” ― but they plan to do it before the caucus votes for its leaders behind closed doors at the end of November.
Search teams were set to sift through the charred wreckage of Paradise, Calif., on Tuesday in search of human remains as authorities investigated the cause of state’s deadliest wildfire. The Camp Fire blaze, still raging in northern California, has killed at least 42 people, and 228 others are missing. Two other people died in the separate Woolsey Fire, which has destroyed 435 structures and displaced about 200,000 people in the mountains and foothills near Southern California’s Malibu coast, west of Los Angeles.
“These are regular people,” said Scarlett Baily, a Mexico City visual artist who talked to some of the 5,000 or so people in the caravan while they rested in Mexico recently. The local mafia system has made it impossible to work.

A 10-year-old Arizona girl says she was able to ward off a potential kidnapper by asking him for her family's secret "code word" on Wednesday. Brenda James told KSAZ that her daughter, whose name has not been released, was walking with a friend near a park in San Tan Valley, Ariz., at 3:45 p.m. when a man in a white SUV approached the two children. The quick-thinking 10-year-old knew something wasn't right and asked the man for her family's predetermined "code word" before she would get in the vehicle.
An image found by Off-Road.com on a public Ford website allegedly shows the upcoming 2020 Ford Bronco in full-except it's not really the Bronco. This photo, taken at Ford's dealer meeting in Las Vegas last month, actually shows the "baby Bronco" crossover that is due to arrive soon. Announced earlier this year, the "baby Bronco" has yet to be named, but we know it will be sized like the next-gen Escape crossover and ride on the same unibody platform, but with much boxier, rugged styling.
The recount has not even really begun in Broward County. Local election officials worked furiously throughout the day Monday to separate the first page from a voting ballot that ranges from four to seven pages so Broward County can begin machine recounts of the elections for governor and Senate, as well as the statewide race for agriculture commissioner. Broward is one of two counties in the statewide recount that is most under the microscope.
President Trump warned Democrats that it would be a “warlike posture” if they used their newfound House power to investigate him. The House of Representatives makes and passes federal laws, but can also serve as a check on the president. The House can begin impeachment proceedings with a majority vote.

Ancient Egyptians seem to have been "cat people," or at least cat mummy people. Researchers have dug up several mummified cats alongside about 100 wooden cat statues in a tomb complex near a pyramid built for the pharaoh Userkaf, who reigned from 2291 B.C. to 2289 B.C., the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities announced Nov. 10. The burials are located near the site of Saqqara in Egypt.

A judge on Monday denied Florida Republican Senate nominee Rick Scott’s request that voting equipment in Broward County be impounded for security when not in use, proposing instead that three armed deputies be assigned to increase security at Broward election headquarters. During an emergency hearing in the lawsuit brought Sunday by Scott’s campaign, his lawyers asked Judge Jack Tuter to impound ballots and machines in Broward County, citing concerns about Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes’s handling of the count, given her past convictions for violating elections law and her office’s failures to report vote counts since last Tuesday’s election. Take away the concerns of the citizens, take away the concerns of the public that this election process will be protected,” said Scott attorney Jason Zimmerman.
President Trump lashed out at France — the whole country, as well as its president, Emmanuel Macron — Tuesday, two days after returning from a trip to Paris to commemorate the end of World War I. Trump seemed especially irked by Macron’s denunciation of nationalism, but he also got in a dig at French trade policy, accusing the country of discriminating against American wines. President Trump speaks with French President Emmanuel Macron before their meeting in Paris on Saturday.
“My hope is someone caught a glimpse of them,” Janes said of her aunt and uncle. The vast majority of elected officials in New York City signed a letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos in October 2017 inviting the mega-company to locate its second headquarters ― “HQ2” ― in the five boroughs. “As the most dynamic and diverse city in the world, New York City will help propel Amazon’s future growth and kickstart an exciting new chapter in the company’s history,” New York City’s then-public advocate, borough presidents, representatives in the U.S. House and state legislature, and city council members argued in their letter to Bezos.
