Bengals RB Joe Mixon issued arrest warrant for allegedly pointing gun at woman; agent expects charge to be dropped

An arrest warrant was issued for Bengals running back Joe Mixon on Thursday afternoon after he allegedly pointed a gun at a woman in downtown Cincinnati last month, according to multiple reports. According to the warrant, obtained by WCPO's Evan Millward, police said Mixon pointed a gun at a woman on Jan. 21 and said, “You should be popped in the face, I should shoot you, the police [can't] get me. Other specifics surrounding the incident — which officials said occurred just one day before their divisional round playoff game against the Buffalo Bills in New York — are not yet known.

Dangerous fungal illness rapidly spreading across country, doctors warn

Doctors are warning of a dangerous fungal illness rapidly spreading across the country, especially affecting those living or visiting the California and Arizona areas. If you think it sounds like something from the cutting room floor of "The Last of Us" series, where a parasitic fungal infection devastates mankind, there are some very base-level similarities. Valley fever (also called coccidioidomycosis or "cocci") is a significant cause of pneumonia, said Dr. Brad Perkins, chief medical officer at Karius, a company that provides advanced diagnostics for infectious diseases.

Nikki 'Women Don't Care About Contraception' Haley Is Running for President

Nikki Haley—former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador—is set to announce her intentions to run for president later this month. Barring any other last-minute eager beavers, Haley will be former President Donald Trump's first official challenger for the 2024 Republican nomination. Personally, I will always remember Haley for her steadfast belief that “women don't care about contraception.” When on The View in 2012, Haley made that bold statement to a room full of women who...seemed to disagree.

Chinese spy balloon flying over the United States, Pentagon says

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -A suspected Chinese spy balloon has been flying over the United States for a couple of days, and senior U.S. officials have advised President Joe Biden against shooting it down for fear the debris could pose a safety threat. The incident recalls the lengths to which Beijing and Washington have been willing to go to spy on each other amid rising tensions between the superpowers. "The United States government has detected and is tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon that is over the continental United States right now," Pentagon spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder told reporters.

Homestead teacher confesses to having sex in classroom with 12-year-old, police say

An elementary school teacher in Homestead was charged Wednesday with having sex with one of his students. Davis Augustine Hodge Jr., 30, is facing four counts of using his authority to have sex with a child. Investigators say Hodge used his position as a sponsor of the school's chess club to lure the then-12-year-old into his classroom at the West Homestead K-8 Center after school on Fridays, where they engaged in sexual contact at least four times.

Ukraine's new weapon will force a Russian shift

The United States has answered President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's plea for rockets that can strike deep behind the front lines of the nearly year-long conflict with Russia. Now Russian forces will need to adapt or face potentially catastrophic losses. The new weapon, the Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB), will allow Ukraine's military to hit targets at twice the distance reachable by the rockets it now fires from the U.S.-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).

Ideal blood pressure may remodel brain clearance pathways linked to brain health, dementia

Research Highlights: Close review of MRI scans found more intensive high blood pressure treatment (targeted to achieve a systolic pressure less than 120 mm Hg) was more effective than a less-intense treatment goal of 140 mm Hg systolic in achieving a positive structural change in the brain's perivascular spaces: pathways that are important to clearing toxins and other byproducts. If the brain cannot properly clear metabolic byproducts, they accumulate and may contribute to the development of dementia, researchers said. The new findings are from MRI scans of several hundred adults in the SPRINT-MIND trial that previously found intensive blood pressure-lowering slowed cognitive impairment.

2 House Republicans caught saying Ilhan Omar removal was the 'stupidest vote in world' before begging reporters to not tell GOP leadership what they said

House Republicans removed Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from one of her committees on Thursday. The dejected duo called it the "stupidest vote" and panned leadership for making Omar a "martyr." Two disillusioned House Republicans unloaded on their vengeful leadership for inadvertently making a hero out of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar by publicly stripping her of a high-profile committee assignment in what one deemed the "stupidest vote in the world."

California police fatally shoot double amputee, raising the question: Was lethal force justified?

A Los Angeles County police department is facing intense criticism this week after a video surfaced on social media of two officers fatally shooting a double amputee moving away from them. The short video showed the 36-year-old Black man, Anthony Lowe Jr., missing the bottom halves of both legs, holding a knife but leaving his wheelchair and shuffling away from the officers. Jeffrey Fagan, a Columbia University law professor who is an expert on policing, told Yahoo News in an email that the details of the case call into question whether the use of lethal force was warranted.

Pentagon: Chinese spy balloon spotted over Western US

The U.S. is tracking a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon that has been spotted over U.S. airspace for a couple days, but the Pentagon decided not to shoot it down due to risks of harm for people on the ground, officials said Thursday. The discovery of the balloon puts a further strain on U.S.-China relations at a time of heightened tensions. A senior defense official told Pentagon reporters that the U.S. has “very high confidence” it is a Chinese high-altitude balloon and it was flying over sensitive sites to collect information.

Chinese corn mill in North Dakota deemed ‘significant threat’ by US Air Force

The construction of a Chinese-owned corn mill in North Dakota will likely be halted after the U.S. Air Force flagged it as a “significant threat to national security.” Fufeng Group, an MSG and xanthan gum manufacturer based in Shandong province, China, previously bought 370 acres of farmland in Grand Forks through its American subsidiary. The city council approved the company's $700 million proposal to build the mill last year, citing economic development success.

Why Republicans won’t reveal their spending cuts

House Republicans, led by Speaker Kevin McCarthy, will demand government spending cuts as a condition of raising the debt ceiling and allowing more federal borrowing so the Treasury can keep paying the nation's bills. President Biden and his fellow Democrats will insist on a “clean” debt-ceiling hike with no conditions. The real political battle, however, is over which side can most effectively trash the other before a last-second deal averts a financial crisis and Congress raises the debt ceiling.

    • “Streaming isn’t going away … You’re still going to have a lot of choice for a long time.”

    • “In the future, [streaming] likely will cost more, have a little less library content and cancel more shows more quickly.”

    • “Streamers are retreating from any sort of creative risk in favor of humdrum, lowest-common-denominator shows.”
