The authority to prohibit a president's corrupt use of power, the report finds, is essential to “our constitutional system of checks and balances and the principle that no person is above the law. The report declines to reach a judgment on whether the president has committed a crime because Mueller views himself as bound by Department of Justice policy against indicting a sitting president. This does not mean that the president has not committed a crime.
The FBI has arrested a member of an armed rightwing militia group accused of illegally detaining migrants at the US-Mexico border, officials said Saturday. Larry Mitchell Hopkins, 70, was arrested for illegal possession of a weapon. His small but well-armed United Constitutional Patriots (UCP) group says it watches the border, stands guard over people who want to hand themselves in to border patrol and pursues those who don't.
French President Emmanuel Macron is to outline a reform plan drawn up in response to nationwide protests next week after the key policy action was delayed by the Notre-Dame fire, the presidency said Friday. Macron will hold a press conference on Thursday at 6:00 pm (1600 GMT) to make the announcements. He had been scheduled to make an address last Monday but immediately cancelled its broadcast after the devastating fire erupted at Notre-Dame cathedral that caused significant damage to the Paris landmark.
South Carolina authorities said Friday that the death of a fifth grade girl at school last month was due to natural causes and not a fight with another student, which they described as lasting only seconds. Solicitor Duffie Stone said at a press conference that 10-year-old Raniya Wright died of a congenital condition called an arteriovenous malformation, a tangle of abnormal blood vessels in the brain. Raniya had been taken to the doctor after complaining of headaches about two weeks before she died.
If you're in the mood to eat out Sunday, you'll find more restaurants are open Easter than were for Christmas. National chains, including Starbucks, McDonald's and Dunkin', will be open, along with IHOP, Denny's and Waffle House. But according to an analysis by Womply, a small business software provider, 23% fewer restaurants are open on Easter compared with a typical Sunday, so your options might be limited.

BEIRUT/MOSCOW, April 20 (Reuters) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met senior officials from his strongest ally Russia in Damascus on Friday and Saturday to discuss upcoming peace talks, renting out Tartus port and trade between the two countries, state media in Syria reported. Russia has helped Assad's forces to take back most of the country but the eight-year-long war continues. Swathes of the northeast and northwest are out of his control, while sanctions and a fuel shortage are constricting the economy.
Twenty years later, I still find myself doing a mental gap analysis of Columbine, though nothing can ever make anything whole. What I always come back to, which makes me dizzy, is contemplating what the world is lacking because these 12 young people and this teacher were abruptly removed from humanity's equation one April morning as the last millennium's final days waned. All because of two young men who decided that violence would be their final path forward.
Brands sometimes go too hard during Pride season. Every once in a while, however, they get it right. The year 2019 has already brought us one *actually good* example.
All the candidates running for the 2020 presidential nomination issued statements responding to special counsel Robert Mueller's long-awaited report on the Trump campaign's contacts with Russia and President Trump's repeated attempts to thwart the investigation. Most of them focused on Attorney General William Barr's press conference 90 minutes before a redacted version of the report was released to the public. We can't trust Trump's handpicked AG to be transparent about the Mueller report,” Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y.
The children of a California couple sentenced to life in prison for torturing them in a case that has shocked the US said they "forgive" their parents as they begged the judge for a more lenient sentence. David and Louise Turpin's 13 children were discovered malnourished, shackled to their beds and living in filthy conditions when their 17-year-old daughter escaped the home and raised the alarm last January. "I love both of my parents so much," said one of the daughters, in a statement read by her brother at a sentencing hearing on Friday.
The US Federal Aviation Administration is planning what it calls a comprehensive multi-nation review of the control systems of the Boeing 737 Max airliner to include experts from nine civil aviation authorities. The review will "evaluate aspects of the 737 Max automated flight-control system, including its design and pilots' interaction with the system, to determine its compliance with all applicable regulations and to identify future enhancements that might be needed," the agency said. Boeing Max planes -- the aerospace firm's all-time best-seller -- have been grounded worldwide since then, while engineers and investigators seek the exact causes of the crashes.
French police said they arrested more than 200 "yellow vest" demonstrators in Paris on Saturday as clashes broke out with demonstrators turning out for a 23rd week of anti-government protests. AFP journalists reported scuffles between police and protesters in the afternoon, after hours of calm, as police used stun grenades and tear gas to disperse marchers in the centre of the French capital. Some protesters threw bottles and other objects at police and set fire to vehicles, safety barriers and bins.
French yellow vest protesters marched anew Saturday to remind the government that rebuilding the fire-ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral is not the only problem the nation needs to solve. (April 20)

The Army may have chosen Sig Sauer's P320 for its Modular Handgun System program over Glock's offerings, but that doesn't mean you have to: Glock plans on releasing a civilian variant of its 9mm Glock 19 pistol to civilian buyers this month, the company announced today. Glock's commercial pistol, dubbed the 19X, is the company's first stab at a crossover model, combining the Glock 17 frame with a Glock 19 barrel.

No one has claimed responsibility for the six coordinated explosions that took place at 8:45 a.m. local time mainly in the capital Colombo, and separate blasts later in the day. Sri Lanka had previously received warnings of possible church attacks, but not on hotels, Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando said on Sunday, noting some of the explosions were suicide bombings. The blasts at churches took place during Easter Sunday mass, in a country where large-scale attacks on Catholics and Christians have been rare.
House Democrats have formally issued a subpoena for the full contents of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on interference in the 2016 election. It's the first official step in what will likely become a legal showdown between Congress and the Trump Administration. Rep. Jerrold Nadler, who chairs the judiciary committee, announced Friday morning that he was sending a subpoena to the Department of Justice for both the un-redacted report and all underlying evidence.
To be worthy of the title of master, a blacksmith in Kresevo in central Bosnia had to perform a delicate task -- shoe an egg without breaking it. It's an Easter tradition requiring a blacksmith to decorate an egg shell by nailing on it a miniature iron horseshoe. Now Stjepan Biletic wants to have this ancient know-how recognised by UNESCO as part of the world's cultural heritage.

The issue was earlier reported by Florida Today, which said orange smoke was seen rising above SpaceX's facilities, and that the anomaly was contained with no injuries.

The company that formerly owned Sears and Kmart has sued its ex-CEO, chairman and investor Eddie Lampert and his hedge fund over accusations that they illegally stripped the retailer of assets in the years leading up to its Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Lampert faces accusations that while he was leading the company, he directed the transfer of billions of dollars in assets "for grossly inadequate consideration or no consideration at all" for the benefit of himself, his hedge fund ESL Investments and others. The lawsuit, filed by Sears Holdings, targets about two dozen defendants, including Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who was previously an investor and board member of ESL and has been friends with Lampert for decades.
Revelations about apps from the Google Play Store sneaking past available protections and collecting gobs of user data without permission are nothing new, but a new investigation has revealed an especially troubling pattern of behavior among one particular set of apps. A BuzzFeed analysis recently found that several Android apps that happen to be among the most-downloaded on the Google Play Store may in fact have been sharing data they collect with the Chinese government. One of the apps in question, a selfie app, has been downloaded more than 50 million times and all of them have reportedly been “committing large-scale ad fraud and abusing user permissions,” according to the report.
One of the oldest gun companies in America produces its own take on one of the most exemplary handgun designs in U.S. history. The 1911 pistol was invented by prolific small arms designer John Moses Browning in the early twentieth century. Browning paired the pistol with his new .45 Automatic Colt Pistol cartridge, a large, heavy subsonic cartridge that delivered upwards of 400 foot-pounds of energy on target.
