Two terrorist groups – one small and obscure, the other sizable and well-known – are at the center of the Sri Lankan attacks that killed more than 300 people on Easter Sunday. It doesn't add up whatsoever," said C. Christine Fair, an expert on South Asian political and military affairs and a professor at Georgetown University. In the immediate aftermath of the attack, Sri Lanka's Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said seven members of a radical Muslim group called the National Thowfeek Jamaath were behind the attacks. But he also said they likely had support from a larger international network.
An armed group that has been patrolling the U.S.-Mexico border left its post in the New Mexico desert Tuesday amid pressure from law enforcement following videos that showed militia members stopping migrants who had illegally crossed into the country. Sunland Park police and security officers with a railroad company told members of the United Constitutional Patriots on Tuesday they needed to move their trailers and equipment. Union Pacific Railroad said the group crossed its land to access the site and requested that the group not trespass onto its property.
The United States must be prepared for consequences if it tries to stop Iran from selling oil and using the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned on Wednesday, while also offering to negotiate prisoner swaps with Washington. The United States on Monday demanded buyers of Iranian oil stop purchases by May or face sanctions, ending six months of waivers which allowed Iran's eight biggest buyers, most of them in Asia, to continue importing limited volumes. quot;We believe that Iran will continue to sell its oil.
It is not now clear whether the Democrats' pathological attachment to the fantasy that they have some chance of destroying the Trump presidency legally is based on continuing hysteria and frenzy, or addiction to continued harassment of the president even as the credibility of doing so plummets, or is an attempt to forestall the investigation and exposure of the malfeasance of the Obama administration and the Clinton campaign in producing the fraud of Trump–Russian collusion. All serious observers can (and do) agree that there is no chance of removing this president from office by impeachment. It requires considerable perseverance and selectivity in canvassing the American media to elicit this fact, but the special counsel, Robert Mueller, despite his glaring anti-Trump biases and obscenely partisan group of investigators, found the president (and all other Americans) to be blameless on the charge of illegal collusion with anyone in Russia to rig the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
NASA's robotic probe InSight has detected and measured what scientists believe to be a "marsquake," marking the first time a likely seismological tremor has been recorded on another planet, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California reported on Tuesday. The breakthrough came nearly five months after InSight, the first spacecraft designed specifically to study the deep interior of a distant world, touched down on the surface of Mars to begin its two-year seismological mission on the red planet. The faint rumble characterized by JPL scientists as a likely marsquake, roughly equal to a 2.5 magnitude earthquake, was recorded on April 6 - the lander's 128th Martian day, or sol.
Ford Motor Co. said Wednesday it was investing $500 million in Rivian as part of a strategic partnership with the startup developing electric pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. The tieup will enable Ford to develop its own branded electric vehicle using Rivian's "flexible skateboard platform," according to a statement from the two companies. "As we continue in our transformation of Ford with new forms of intelligent vehicles and propulsion, this partnership with Rivian brings a fresh approach to both," said Jim Hackett, Ford president and chief executive.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un arrived in the Russian city of Vladivostok on Wednesday for a summit he is likely to use to seek support from Russian President Vladimir Putin, as Pyongyang's nuclear talks with Washington remain in limbo. The armoured train carrying Kim on his first official visit to Russia pulled into the quayside station in Vladivostok, on the Pacific Ocean, a few hours after crossing from North Korea into Russia. After a brief delay while the door of Kim's carriage was lined up with a red carpet laid out on the platform, the door opened and a smiling Kim stepped out.
The investigation was tied to the "#FeelingCute" challenge, the department said last week. The Houston Chronicle — which reported earlier this month that officers were apparently linked to posts with captions such as "Feeling cute, might just gas some inmates today, IDK" — reported on Tuesday that four officers have been fired and two resigned because of the investigation. Texas Department of Criminal Justice statements to the Chronicle and the Associated Press did not provide details on the social media content involved in the firings.
On Monday, Sony announced the pricing of the flagship Master Series televisions as well as that of its new LCD and OLED models originally revealed at CES earlier this year. Back in January at this year's annual International Consumer Electronics Show, Sony unveiled its latest flagship TVs, the Master Series, as well as a slew of lower-tier OLED and HDR models; this week the pricing was revealed. While the smaller three televisions of the Master segment, the A9G TVs, measure in at 65 , 55 , and 77 and feature 4K OLED displays with over eight million pixels, the two larger models -- the Z9G TVs -- are 8K HDR televisions with 33 million pixels.

Sina Toossi, Assal Rad Security, Middle East As the influence of Iranian hardliners increases, so does the likelihood that Iran will tap into its underused leverage to raise the costs for U.S. actions against it. The ingredients for a war with Iran are falling into place. The Trump administration's termination of oil waivers for importers of Iranian oil and designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a branch of Iran's state-run military, as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) are dangerous acts of escalation.
Donald Trump has lashed out at The New York Times, Morning Joe, CNN, Democrats, and the EU on Twitter — as well as the social media platform itself — during a busy morning in which a new state visit to Britain was also confirmed. As the president continues to gloat over the outcome of the Mueller report, Democrats are busy formulating their response. Mr Trump has claimed the report exonerates him, but Democrats see grounds for potential impeachment, with 2020 hopeful Elizabeth Warren the most vocal among a growing choir calling for that measure: “If any other human being in this country had done what's documented in the Mueller report, they would be arrested and put in jail.

While the maximum cost of the plan is $350 million, PG&E has said it expects the likely cost will be around $235 million.

Iranians, already hard hit by punishing US economic sanctions, are bracing for more pain after Washington abolished waivers for some countries which had allowed them to buy oil from Iran. "In the end the pressure (America) is putting out is on the people," said a 28-year-old technical instructor in Iran. In 2015 when Iran struck a landmark nuclear deal with world powers, hopes were high that it would end the country's years of crippling economic isolation.

A California woman could face up to seven years behind bars on a slew of charges filed Tuesday after authorities say surveillance video showed her casually tossing a bag of 3-day-old puppies into a trash can on a sweltering day. Deborah Sue Culwell, 54, was charged with seven felony counts of injuring the palm-sized puppies and seven misdemeanor counts of abandoning them. The puppies' mother may have been among 38 dogs found inside Culwell's home following her arrest, and authorities were determining whether a reunion would be possible, according to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services.
Donald Trump has praised Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter over comments she made last week about the Department of Veterans Affairs — while simultaneously undermining her stance on the issue of privatising health care for US veterans. The president claimed the agency “is doing great” thanks to his administration in a tweet, seemingly undermining the fundamental point the 29-year-old lawmaker was making during a town hall event in New York. Mr Trump supported at least a portion of the congresswoman's statements surrounding veterans' health care in America, writing Wednesday, “Rep.
Senator Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) said Monday that as president she would unilaterally tighten gun control laws through executive action if Congress did not pass legislation to do so within her first 100 days in office. Harris explained during CNN's town hall event in New Hampshire that she would use her executive authority to require that anyone who sells more than five guns per year conduct a background check on all sales, effectively eliminating their status as a “private seller” in a move that would be vulnerable to legal challenge. “Upon being elected, I will give the United States Congress 100 days to get their act together and have the courage to pass reasonable gun safety laws, and if they fail to do it, then I will take executive action,” Harris told the crowd.
U.S. stocks hovered below their all-time highs on Wednesday, as investors digested a mixed batch of earnings reports and losses in energy stocks limited gains on the indexes. The S&P 500 is 0.3% below its record high of 2,940.91 hit in September. The index has rallied 17% this year, supported by a dovish Federal Reserve, hopes of a U.S.-China trade resolution and a largely upbeat earnings season.
