Suspect apprehended in fatal shooting at Wisconsin tavern

Authorities say they have apprehended a person in connection with a shooting at a busy tavern in southeastern Wisconsin early Sunday that left three men dead and three men injured. Kenosha County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. David Wright said the suspect is facing a charge of first-degree intentional homicide, with additional criminal charges likely after further investigation. Authorities said earlier they weren't sure if there was more than one shooter.

'Highly unlikely' Chauvin trial ends in 'all-out' acquittal, legal analyst predicts

As Minneapolis and the rest of the nation brace for the looming verdict in former police officer Derek Chauvin's murder trial, ABC News' chief legal analyst Dan Abrams said Sunday that he believe it is "highly unlikely" the trial is headed toward an "all-out" acquittal. Closing arguments still have to take place, and Abrams noted that the defense has the benefit of not having to prove that Chauvin did not kill George Floyd by kneeling on his neck during an arrest last May (the burden of proof is on the prosecution and the defense's goal is to show there's reasonable doubt), but, still, he said he and others who have followed the trial closely would be "stunned" if Chauvin was found not guilty on all three of charges โ€” second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter โ€” he faces.

Trump calls Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal "wonderful" and "positive"

Former President Trump said President Biden's decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan "a wonderful and positive thing to do," but criticized the timeline and said the U.S. "should get out earlier." Why it matters: The statement puts Trump once again at odds with top Republicans who have widely condemned the move, with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) calling it a "grave mistake" and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) saying the withdrawal is a "disaster in the making." The big picture: Biden announced that U.S. troops would begin withdrawing from Afghanistan on May 1, with a complete withdrawal complete by September 11, 2021.

When asked what he thought about Major League Baseball's decision to move the All-Star Game away from Atlanta, Ga., DeSantis hinted that corporations should expect some form of retaliation. MLB moved the All-Star Game to Denver, Colo., in protest of Georgia's recently-passed elections law that mandates photo identification from all voters, bans political groups from handing out food and water at polling stations, and enacts various other measures.

Sinn Fein leader apologises for the death of Lord Mountbatten following Prince Philip's funeral

The leader of Sinn Fein has said she is sorry for the murder of the Lord Mountbatten by the IRA following the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh. Mary Lou McDonald, the President of the republican party, said the death of the Duke's uncle in 1979 was โ€œheartbreakingโ€ and that it was her responsibility to โ€œlead from the front. Her comments represent a significant shift from her predecessor Gerry Adams, who has refused to apologise for his previous claims that Lord Mountbatten โ€œknew the dangerโ€ and could not โ€œhave objected to dying in what was clearly a war situation.

Florida nurse accused of threatening to kill VP Kamala Harris

A Miami-area woman was charged in federal court with making threats to kill Vice President Kamala Harris in a series of videos she sent to her husband in prison, authorities said. Niviane Petit Phelps, 39, sent five 30-second videos and two photographs to her husband back in February through a service known as "JPay," which is used to share media between incarcerated and non-incarcerated individuals, according to a Secret Service complaint. "The videos generally depict Phelps complaining and speaking angrily to the camera about her hatred for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, among others," authorities said.

Queenโ€™s birthday to pass without gun salute for second time

There will be no gun salute to mark the Queen's 95th birthday on Wednesday as she continues to mourn the loss of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh. Royal sources suggested that even before the Duke's death on April 9, the Queen had not wanted her forthcoming birthday to be marked in any meaningful way. The monarch will no doubt spend time on Wednesday in quiet reflection, remembering last year's birthday, spent with her husband at Windsor during the first lockdown, as they isolated together.

More than a billion people around the world have been waiting for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine โ€” a cheap, easy-to-transport, one-dose injection that reduces the risk from COVID-19. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which this week recommended that use of the vaccine be paused while scientists study a possible link to extremely rare blood clots, has no authority outside the United States. The fallout has begun in South Africa, where authorities also paused use of the vaccine, the only one available in the country.

Whitmer: Michigan Supreme Court, Legislature partly to blame for COVID-19 surge

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday the recent surge in coronavirus cases that has made Michigan a national outlier is partly the result of a Michigan Supreme Court ruling that struck down a key law she has used to fight the pandemic. It wasย a departure from statements Whitmer made immediately following the October ruling, when she said she mostly retained powers related to public health measures but would require legislative approval for other measures, such as extending unemployment insurance benefits and allowing local governments to hold their public meetings remotely. Also, Whitmer in recent months has eased coronavirus restrictions voluntarily โ€” not in response to court rulingsย โ€” despite rising case numbers.
