President-elect Joe Biden announced some economic priorities on Friday, but Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) promptly poked some holes in his plans. Biden began laying out his framework for the next round of COVID-19 relief, reports The Washington Post, and said his plans include a multi-trillion-dollar package that would provide "more direct relief flowing to families, small businesses," in part via $2,000 stimulus checks. Since Republicans are united in opposing larger checks, resistance from a single Democrat could throw a wrench in Biden's plans.

Dominion Voting Systems filed a defamation lawsuit against lawyer Sidney Powell on Friday, seeking at least $1.3 billion for Powell's “wild accusations” that the company rigged the presidential election for Joe Biden. Dominion brings this action to set the record straight,” the company said in the suit filed in federal court in Washington. Powell has for weeks claimed without evidence that the election technology vendor, whose vote-counting equipment was used in several states, was part of a scheme to steal the election from President Donald Trump.

Law enforcement officials announced Friday that they had arrested the man pictured in a viral photograph sitting in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office with one leg up on her desk when pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday. Officials said they took 60-year-old Richard Barnett into custody in Little Rock, Ark. and also released details about crimes for which several people will face federal charges. Barnett, who faces charges of violent entry and theft of public property, among other things, told KFSM that he was looking for a bathroom when he saw that the door to Pelosi's office was open.

Images being shared on social media have sparked fears some pro-Trump rioters at the US Capitol on Wednesday planned on potentially taking hostages. At least two insurrectionists inside the Capitol building were pictured carrying large zip-ties, which are often used to handcuff people. A House Democratic aide appeared to confirm zip-ties were spotted on the violent protesters, though it was not clear if he had seen the same photos.

President Donald Trump has many prized possessions. Trump routinely boasted of the social media bullhorn he possessed. The president is “ballistic,” a senior administration official said after Twitter permanently took down his account, citing the possibility that it would be used in the final 12 days of Trump's presidency to incite violence.

A laptop belonging to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's congressional aide was stolen during the US Capitol siege on Wednesday, Reuters' Raphael Satter reported. The aide's laptop — which was used for presentations — was taken from a conference room, according to a tweet from Drew Hammill, Pelosi's deputy chief of staff. Democratic House Rep. Jim Clyburn's iPad and Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley's laptop was also stolen during the riots.

John Catanzara, who was elected last May as the president of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police, is defending the people who participated in the violent siege of the U.S. Capitol that resulted in the death of a police officer. There was no arson, there was no burning of anything, there was no looting, there was very little destruction of property,” Catanzara told WBEZ in a Wednesday evening phone interview. It was a bunch of pissed-off people that feel an election was stolen, somehow, some way.

Donald Trump has performed a dramatic U-turn by condemning the violent mob of his own supporters who stormed the US Capitol Building, provoking anger from backers who “risked their lives” for him in DC. In a desperate bid to prevent Congress certifying November's election results and confirming Joe Biden as the country's 46th leader, the president encouraged a march on the heart of American democracy. Five people have now died in the chaos before Capitol Hill police could restore order, as frightened representatives were evacuated from Congress before returning to complete their duties in the early hours of Thursday morning, formally confirming Mr Biden's 306-232 Electoral College victory over Mr Trump.

Michael Sherwin, the acting US attorney in Washington, DC, on Thursday described arrests made during the riot in the US Capitol. He said one man who was arrested was carrying 11 Molotov cocktails that were "ready to go," as well as a semiautomatic rifle. Capitol Police in a separate statement said its officers were attacked with metal pipes and chemicals.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has backed calls for President Trump to be removed from office, potentially through the impeachment process. During a news conference Thursday, Pelosi called for Trump to be removed via the 25th Amendment after a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol in a riot that left four people dead. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) previously called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked and said that if it isn't, Congress should impeach and remove Trump.

GOP Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska called his colleague Sen. Josh Hawley's attempts to subvert the 2020 presidential election results "really dumbass" and "a terrible idea" in a Friday interview on NPR. "This was a stunt, it was a terrible, terrible idea, and you don't lie to the American people, and that's been going on," Sasse said. Hawley is accused inciting the rioters who mounted an armed insurrection on the US Capitol by pushing false and misleading claims about voting and election irregularities.

Ghatan, told the Daily Beast. Ghatan said she "specifically" asked her client to take off the hat before the interview.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was escorted by police from a terminal inside Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after a group of Donald Trump's supporters chanted “traitor” and screamed “you work for us” after he condemned Donald Trump's response to a violent mob at the US Capitol and baseless allegations of election fraud. "One day you will not be able to walk down the street," one woman yells in video shared by Politico's Daniel Lippman. A source sends this video of a group of Trump supporters today harassing Sen. Lindsey Graham at Reagan airport and loudly calling him a “traitor” after he publicly broke with Trump earlier this week.

The fourth cricket test between India and Australia scheduled to be played in Brisbane is in further doubt after Queensland state officials announced a hard lockdown for at least three days due to a new COVID-19 case in Brisbane. There has already been continuing speculation that India will refuse to travel to Brisbane for the final match of the four-test series beginning Jan. 15, wanting to avoid the Queensland government's strict biosecurity protocols. Both squads are due to travel to Brisbane on Tuesday, the day after Brisbane's stay-at-home restrictions are currently scheduled to end.

“Governors are being WAY too precious about who gets this vaccine.”
“The federal government needs to give states strict parameters for when their vaccine allocation must be administered.”
“While public health leaders know what must be done, their critical work could be supported by a national COVID-19 Vaccine Corps.”
“The US vaccine campaign is not a disaster. Rather, I think it is predictably mediocre.”
“The best option may be to rely more on private industry.”
