A decorated Afghan Air Force pilot who had saved American lives is now in hiding in Afghanistan from the Taliban after the US military suddenly changed course and denied his emergency request to seek refuge in America late last month. “I cannot go backward,” Maj. Mohammed Naiem Asadi, 32, told military news site Stars and Stripes, which broke the news. Stars and Stripes accessed documents which showed the Pentagon initially approved the request from Mr Asadi, who reportedly killed more Taliban fighters than anyone else in the Afghan Air Force and helped protect an American pilot who crashed their plane in northern Afghanistan this summer.
On Nov. 2, police received a call from a local jewelry salesman, Jay Brett Rind, reporting an accidental shooting at his apartment in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. According to an affidavit filed in court on Nov. 5, Rind told dispatchers that he'd met an old friend, 21-year fire department veteran James Gilliard, for dinner to offer him the “deal of a lifetime.” Rind planned to move to Mexico, and suggested he give his old pal, whom he'd met years prior when Gilliard owned a local pawn shop, two guns.
GOP Rep. Denver Riggleman slammed President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans in a recent interview with Forbes, saying that the party's refusal to acknowledge President-elect Joe Biden's win is a "massive grift." "They're worried about committee assignments, they're worried about the team," Riggleman said of Republicans who are standing with the president. Riggleman, a first-term lawmaker representing Virginia's 5th Congressional district, was defeated in his June renomination bid and will leave Congress in January 2021.
The latest information from the Hermit Kingdom comes from South Korean lawmakers, who spoke to reporters on Friday after having a private meeting with the National Intelligence Service NIS , the country's chief intelligence agency. The other person was allegedly a top government official who was caught violating restrictions placed on goods from outside the country amid the pandemic, AP reported. A Utah police officer allegedly kidnapped a member of his own family on Thanksgiving Day in what police described as a “paranoid” episode involving an involuntary joyride, a gun, and abandoned buildings. An unnamed relative told police that their nephew Scott Elliott Russell, a master officer with the South Jordan Police Department, had taken them for a drive before the family's Thanksgiving dinner in Provo, Utah, but when the relative requested to return home, Russell refused and kept driving along the I-15 highway. Police did not disclose the relative's identity.
Face-to-face negotiations between Britain and the European Union over a trade deal restarted earlier on Saturday as the two sides make a last ditch attempt to reach an agreement with just five weeks to go before their current relationship ends. There is currently no call scheduled between UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, a UK source told Reuters, after the Times newspaper reported the pair would speak in the next 48 hours. The first sign of movement -- either towards a deal or that talks are crumbling -- is likely to be a call between Johnson and von der Leyen.
Donald Trump was asked if he was using “the language of a dictator” following a brief but extraordinary press conference in which he doubled down on election misinformation, refused to say if he would attend Joe Biden's inauguration, and angrily assailed a reporter for asking if he would concede to his Democratic rival. The US president on Thursday took reporters' questions for the first time since the 3 November vote, but he mostly failed to answer accurately as he continued to deny the fact Mr Biden won both the electoral college and the popular vote. “If the media were honest and big tech was fair this wouldn't even be a contest and I would have won by a tremendous amount,” Mr Trump said from the White House.

Donald Trump's attempts to overturn the election results suffered a severe blow on Friday when a judge he had appointed in Pennsylvania ruled against his fraud appeal. A blistering ruling from Third District's Stephanos Bibas – a Trump-appointed judge – said “free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy.” One of his lawyers, Jenna Ellis, said they will take their case to the Supreme Court.

Arizona legislators and lawyers for President Donald Trump will hold a meeting at a downtown hotel on Monday to discuss the election as they continue to dispute his defeat earlier this month despite there being no evidence of widespread fraud. The gathering may rally Trump supporters and provide counter-programming on the same morning Arizona's secretary of state is scheduled to certify President-elect Joe Biden's victory in the state, but it is unclear how legislators could do much of anything about the outcome of the race. While the Trump campaign and state Republican Party have filed election lawsuits in Maricopa County, they have not put forward evidence of fraud and judges have so far tossed out the cases.
Chartered United Airlines flights from Brussels to Chicago are carrying Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine, according to The Wall Street Journal. Carter Page, a foreign policy adviser on the 2016 Trump presidential campaign, sued the Department of Justice, FBI, and various top department officials in a Washington federal court on Friday. He alleges he was improperly surveilled as part of the intelligence effort to investigate possible ties between Russia and the Trump campaign. The suit, which includes former FBI director James Comey, former acting FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe, and an FBI lawyer named Kevin Clinesmith, centres around how the FBI got permission from the secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court to investigate Mr Page on suspicions he might be a recruitment target for Russian espionage, efforts which la...
With Justice Amy Coney Barrett anchoring a new, arch-conservative majority of justices, Chief Justice John Roberts is no longer the one in power. In the first major public act of Donald Trump's Supreme Court, the majority ruled against New York attendance restrictions to religious services to limit the spread of COVID-19. Barrett's arrival in the seat held by Ruth Bader Ginsburg means the chief's vote is no longer necessary if conservatives are seeking expansive rulings in the cultural and social issues that matter to them.

Dr. Celine Gounder, a member of Joe Biden's COVID-19 advisory board, told CNN on Friday that Biden "is leaving it to the public health experts and scientists to figure out how best to allocate the limited supply first."
