The stresses of Biden's presidential campaign have made an already complicated father-son relationship between Joe and Hunter even more so.'I don't know Beau, I know Hunter' »
On Monday, Oct. 26, Walter Wallace Jr., a 27-year-old Black man who suffered from bipolar disorder, was fatally shot by Philadelphia police officers as he was walking toward them. Cellphone video of the encounter, which has since gone viral, has raised new questions about the role of the police when engaging individuals with mental health issues. “Police are not trained to deal with folks with mental health issues,” Kirk Burkhalter, a former 20-year New York Police Department detective, told Yahoo News in a video interview.
Joe Biden campaigners were forced to cancel an event in Texas on Friday as tensions flared in the key battleground state ahead of election day. Local Democrats said they were forced to pull the plug on a gathering scheduled to take place in Pflugerville – a small city about 17 miles north of Austin – due to "security reasons". It came as vice-presidential candidate, senator Kamala Harris, completed a whistle-stop three-city tour of the Lone Star state in a last-minute bid for votes.
During recent protests over the police killing of Walter Wallace Jr. in Philadelphia, the U.S.'s largest police union posted what looked like a sympathetic photo. A Philadelphia police office held a Black toddler, with a caption purporting he was found "walking around barefoot in an area that was experiencing complete lawlessness," the National Fraternal Order of Police's Facebook post said. Rickia Young was driving with her toddler son to pick up her 16-year-old nephew when she accidentally drove into an area where police and protesters were facing off.
In the eight months before Cornyn's 1990 election to the state's highest court, seven Texas publications, including regional standard-bearers such as the Austin-American Statesman and the Houston Chronicle, published 10 profiles claiming that Cornyn had "graduated" from "the Judicial Studies Program" at Oxford. The profiles, archived versions of which were reviewed by Salon, ran from February until days before the election in November, with headlines like "Judge Promises 'Restoration of Integrity'" and "Cornyn's Record Makes Him Choice for Supreme Court." The latter article concluded by mentioning the Oxford program.
The claim: Amy Coney Barrett and Greta Thunberg quoted on climate change A post on Facebook by the Other 98% compares a quote it attributes to Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett with a quote it attributes to climate activist Greta Thunberg. I've read things about climate change... I would not say that I have firm views on it,” Barrett said.
Recent polls show Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and his Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison in a tight race in South Carolina. Harrison joined CBSN to talk about what we can expect in their final debate Friday night ahead of Election Day.
Joe Biden's presidential campaign canceled a Friday event in Austin, Texas, after harassment from a pro-Trump contingent. Texas has emerged as a battleground state in Tuesday's presidential election, with polls showing the typically Republican stronghold now only marginally favoring President Donald Trump. The Biden campaign scheduled a Friday event in the state, in a bid to drum up last-minute support.
New Jersey prosecutors said a police officer sent sexually explicit texts to an 18-year-old woman. The New Jersey cop, Damien Broschart, is facing multiple charges and might lose his job if convicted, according to state prosecutors. Broschart sent the texts just hours after he arrested the woman, prosecutors say.
Fox News personality Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson is being widely mocked after regaling viewers of his top-rated cable news program on Wednesday with a bizarre, evidence-free tale of deep state-style espionage directed against him by unknown forces who allegedly stole a sheaf of top-secret documents with "damning" information about the Biden family, as it was in transit to him via UPS. Carlson can now rest assured: On Thursday morning a UPS spokesperson reported that the company had found the missing contents. "After an extensive search, we have found the contents of the package and are arranging for its return," the spokesperson said by email.
Vice President Mike Pence is not considered a favorite to emerge as the Republican Party's next presidential nominee. Earlier this month, The New York Times reported that the suggestion prompted laughter from several sources, while multiple GOP strategists expressed doubt to The Washington Post recently, as well. Mike Lindell, the Minnesota campaign chair for President Trump, said it will simply just "be harder for a career politician to be president going forward," but Alex Conant, who served as the campaign spokesman during Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-Fla.) 2016 presidential run, thinks Pence's ties to the Trump administration could mean the vice presidency will remain the apex of his political journey.
Kyle Rittenhouse was extradited to Wisconsin after an Illinois judge rejected his legal challenge on Friday. The 17-year-old was charged with first-degree intentional homicide in August over the shooting of three people at anti-police-brutality protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse argued Wisconsin's request to extradite him from Illinois violated his constitutional rights, but the Illinois judge said it wasn't the court's place to rule on those issues, accusing him of asking the court to "ignore binding Illinois law."
The night of Oct. 12 was like any other for former beauty queen Leanza Cornett, according to her roommate, Sue Roberts. Miss America 1993 was in her kitchen at her Jacksonville home when she accidentally fell, Roberts wrote on the Facebook page called “Leanza Cornett's Circle of Love.” The page was for the 49-year-old beauty queen's friends as well as employees at Walt Disney World, where Cornett had played Ariel in the live-action “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” show in the early '90s.
I knew right away it was my son,” Diane said. And I knew right then someone had killed him. According to Sergeant Chris Spencer with the Omaha Police Department, officers responded to the scene at 3009 Hamilton Street and discovered a badly decomposed body beneath a vehicle behind the house.
President Trump has seemingly made life difficult for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which is hoping to see the GOP retain its majority in the upper chamber this election cycle, The Washington Post reports. The committee's director Kevin McLaughlin, per the Post, explained last week that Trump is "losing Arizona" where "we think that he and [Sen. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.)] are very intrinsically tied together." With Trump down, McSally's Democratic challenger, Mark Kelly, is viewed by both sides as the favorite to take the seat.
Prosecutors have brought additional charges against seven members of 1488, a white supremacist gang based in Alaska. The group members also assaulted and removed tattoos belonging to two other members, the indictment says. Federal prosecutors in Alaska have announced additional charges against members of a white supremacist gang charged in the kidnapping and death of one of their former members.
The eradication of the first nest of Asian giant hornets on US soil somewhat resembled a science fiction depiction of an alien landing site. A crew of government specialists in white, astronaut-like protective suits descended upon the hornet nexus to vanquish it with a futuristic-looking vacuum cleaner, to the relief of onlookers. The nest of the fearsome invasive insects, notoriously known as “murder hornets”, was found in a tree crevice near Blaine, in Washington state, via a tracking device attached to a previously captured worker hornet.
President Donald Trump told supporters at a closed-door event in Nashville that his campaign expects to dispute individual ballots, reported The Washington Post. In several states, Republicans have argued that ballots received after Election Day should not be counted, and in others, signature verification is expected to be a key issue. Trump has for months trailed Biden in the polls and stirred fears of widespread voter fraud that have been rebutted by election officials.
Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York is on the cover of Vanity Fair's December issue. After Ocasio-Cortez's interview with the magazine was published on Wednesday, The Daily Mail reported that the clothes she wore for the photo shoot were worth an estimated $14,000. Some commentators criticized Ocasio-Cortez, saying that the high-end clothes clash with her self-described stance as a democratic socialist.
A 71-year-old's leg was saved after an eight-inch section of her shinbone was removed, taken for radiation treatment at another hospital, and then reinserted before she woke up from surgery. Jan Ritson said the procedure, believed to be the first of its kind carried out in Scotland, was "like science fiction" and "absolutely mind blowing". The section of her tibia was removed at the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, and sent on a 20-minute, six-mile journey to the Beatson Cancer Centre in Glasgow in a sterile container.
Amid a disturbing rise in the number of conspiracy theories taking root in the US population, a new poll has found that nearly one in five people believe that the coronavirus pandemic is a “depopulation tactic”. The survey of 5,500 people also found that nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of Americans asked think that it's definitely, or probably, true that a Covid-19 vaccine “will be used maliciously to infect people with poison”. Only slightly more than half (56 per cent) said that they would take a Covid-19 vaccine, when polled last month.
The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington said in a complaint Friday that White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows allegedly misused campaign funds by spending them on personal expenditures. The watchdog group is urging the Federal Election Commission to investigate Meadows. The FEC prohibits candidates from using campaign funds for personal use.
The complaints from President Donald Trump and his allies have been growing louder as the election approaches: Why isn't the mainstream media covering the Hunter Biden laptop story? Trump and his allies say there is evidence of corruption in emails and documents allegedly found on a laptop belonging to Democrat Joe Biden's son. They say those and other documents show that Hunter Biden used his father's influence to enrich himself through business deals in Ukraine and China, and that his father not only facilitated that, but may have benefited financially.
A Florida man was mauled by a black panther - a leopard with excessive black pigments - during a $150 "full-contact experience" at a backyard enclosure near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, according to local media. Dwight Turner's injuries from the attack, which happened on August 31, were so bad that his scalp was "hanging from his head and his right ear was torn in half," his attorneys have said. The leopard was owned by Florida local Michael Poggi who, according to his social media pages, runs an animal sanctuary for rare and endangered animals in his backyard.

Hours-long lines have been reported across the US over the last two weeks of early voting ahead of Election Day in the 2020 elections, with an unprecedented turnout that has surpassed the early vote total from 2016's presidential election and – in some states – all the votes reported from that year. While the lines and number of ballots cast show significant voter enthusiasm, they underscore persistent voting access issues that disproportionately impact Black voters and voters of colour. As of 30 October, more than 86 million Americans have cast ballots ahead of Election Day on 3 November.
“Many are longtime Republicans wrestling with what they see as a choice between two lousy candidates.”
“Some undecideds turn out to be people who’ve long felt alienated from the two big political parties.”
“They’re not following the 24-hour news cycle. The election and politics are just not a high priority.”
“One common trait: at this stage of the game, the undecided voter doesn’t fit into an easy political profile.”
“More realistically...these voters may not be motivated to vote at all in the 2020 election.”
