President Trump on Tuesday said he had been “sailing” to reelection before the coronavirus pandemic struck the United States and could have won reelection even if he were running against George Washington. “George Washington would have had a hard time beating me before the plague came in, before the China plague,” Trump said in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. It was really looking good, and then we got hit by the plague.
A police department in suburban Denver faced a new set of investigations and legal problems Tuesday as scrutiny mounts over the death last year of Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old Black man put into a chokehold by officers, and other run-ins with people of color. McClain's parents sued the Aurora Police Department and paramedics who injected their son with a sedative, saying they were seeking both accountability for the loss of a “beautiful soul” and to send a message that “racism and brutality have no place in American law enforcement.” The office of Attorney General Phil Weiser said it's been looking into whether Aurora officers have been depriving people of their constitutional rights for several weeks and it's separate from a probe into McClain's death, which Gov. Jared Polis ordered in June.

The drug — named Sputnik V in reference to Russia's Cold War satellite — will be made available for frontline health workers from August or September, Russian media reported. But the drug has raised concerns because it has not undergone phase-3 trials, which are considered essential to guarantee the safety of a vaccine.

In the wake of calls to address racism and police brutality, some black and Latino lawmakers in New York and New Jersey are urging their colleagues to pump the brakes on proposals to slash police department budgets. City councilwoman Vanessa Gibson, a liberal Democrat who represents a West Bronx district where over half of residents are Hispanic and 40 percent are black, said her constituents “want to see cops in the community.” New York City passed a new budget last month that cut $1 billion from the police department budget and re-purposed the funds for education and social services.

Should President Trump lose in the 2020 election, don't expect him to concede defeat — it is simply not in his DNA to do so. Consider the 2016 race, when then-candidate Trump lost the Iowa caucus to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. While other losing candidates just moved on, Trump demanded that Cruz's victory be nullified, tweeting the next morning, “Ted Cruz didn't win Iowa, he stole it.”
Unlike past studies that have blamed increased pollen counts during storms for the uptick in respiratory issues, this paper found that rises in temperature and air pollution in the days before a major storm were the culprits. The researchers say these thunderstorm-related atmospheric changes are expected to become much more frequent as global temperatures rise, which could eventually strain healthcare systems as more patients seek relief from troubled breathing. Anyone with asthma or [chronic obstructive pulmonary disease] who typically has worse symptoms around storms should be sure to take their inhalers as prescribed by their primary care doctor or pulmonologist,” study author Dr. Christo...
The claim: Democrats attending John Lewis' funeral in Atlanta did not wear face coverings A viral meme on Facebook shows a photo with former President Bill Clinton seated next to the Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in what appears to be a house of worship. The writing on the photo states “July 30, 2020 Funeral” and then in capital letters “NOT A MASK IN SITE (sic)” and “IS ANYONE AWAKE YET?
A study found 50 minutes of dry heat in an electric cooker like a rice cooker or crockpot can effectively sanitize N95 respirators without damaging their fit or ability to filter out viruses. N95 respirators are crucial for medical workers, as they are the most effective type of mask for filtering out coronavirus particles. A shortage has meant some hospital workers have to reuse N95 respirators.
"Terror crocodiles" which had teeth the size of bananas and could reach 33 feet in length once roamed North America preying on dinosaurs, according to a new study. Researchers say the Deinosuchus, which means "terror crocodile", was the largest predator in its ecosystem when it roamed the earth between 75 to 82 million years ago, outweighing the largest predatory dinosaurs which existed at the same time. The new study, published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, revisited fossil specimens of the gigantic creatures and found the Deinosuchus had teeth “the size of bananas”, capable of taking down even the very largest of dinosaurs.

More than 30 million unemployed Americans were receiving an additional $600 in unemployment benefits until they expired on July 25. If you are one of them, you were probably somewhat relieved to have heard that last weekend, President Donald Trump signed an executive measure that promises $400 a week on top of your state's regular unemployment benefits. Is it a certainty that I'll receive an extra $400 a week in unemployment benefits?
On Monday evening, President Donald Trump stood at the front of the White House's briefing room and uttered yet another proposal that lacked both specifics and any probability of becoming a reality. So, we're looking very seriously at a capital-gains tax cut and also at an income-tax cut for middle-income families,” Trump said, echoing a promise to cut taxes before the 2018 midterms. We're looking at expanding the tax cuts we've already done, but specifically for middle-income families.

“The Trump campaign is now betting his reelection’s already slim chances on Biden proving Trump’s diagnosis is right.”
“The nightmare scenario for Democrats is that, at a pivotal moment, Biden will struggle to put together a coherent thought.”
