'It's over' for the Trump Organization if its CFO Allen Weisselberg pleads guilty, legal analyst and ex-prosecutor says

The financial consequences for Donald Trump "are huge," said former prosecutor Adam Weissman. A guilty plea from the Trump Organization's former chief financial officer in the criminal tax case against him would spell financial disaster for former President Donald Trump and his family business, said a former top federal prosecutor on Tuesday. The New York Times reported that Allen Weisselberg, a longtime top executive for the Trump Organization, is expected to plead guilty in a deal with the Manhattan District Attorney's office as early as Thursday.

President Biden forgives nearly $4 billion in student debt — what’s next?

President Joe Biden wiped $3.9 billion from the student loan records Tuesday. More than 200,000 former students, who still owe on a federal student loan from their time at ITT Technical Institute will see their loan balances cleared, whether they've applied for forgiveness or not. This brings the total amount of loan discharges under Biden to nearly $32 billion and leaves many wondering what more could be forgiven or at least if payments will remain on pause.

Why the Eastern Kentucky flood was no natural disaster. Let's call it what it is

And while this contributor will address that narrative below, there is another narrative that needs clarifying: The flood of July 28, 2022 was not a natural disaster. To imply this flood, along with so many other weather-borne catastrophes plaguing our world, is a natural disaster is to say three things: We don't know why it happened, we don't know how it happened and we don't know how to prevent the next one. But we do know the answers to these questions. We've known them for some time.

Cottonmouth turf war turns comical when a raccoon wades into middle of NC marsh fight

A snake researcher documenting a venomous cottonmouth turf war in North Carolina saw the tense fight turn goofy when a self-absorbed raccoon wandered into the water. Video posted on Facebook by herpetologist Frederick Boyce shows at least five adult cottonmouths (each 30 to 35 inches long) were in the water when the raccoon made the clearly unnecessary decision to join them. It is seen coming within a few feet of two entangled cottonmouths before exiting the mud without so much as a scratch.

Texas mother creates ‘bulletproof’ back-to-school dress to send message about gun violence: ‘We need to protect our babies’

Sending children back to school in the fall can be an emotional rollercoaster for most parents — especially after a string of school shootings in the last year that has made the yearly tradition feel downright overwhelming. “My daughter was in kindergarten last year and she knew that her place in 'lockdown drills' was by the toilet in the classroom bathroom, and that she had to wait till the administrators banged on the doors, and that she had to be quiet," Cassie Arnold, an arts educator and mom of three living in Texas, tells Yahoo Life, lamenting the fact that school shootings have become normalized. Arnold — in order to jumpstart important conversations about school gun violence, and to coincide with the return to school — decided to use her skills as an artist to create School Uniform (Bulletproof Dress), an outfit worn by her middle child in a photo for social media.

Musk's tweet about buying Manchester United no joke for fed-up fans

One of the world's most successful soccer clubs, the "Red Devils" are languishing at the bottom of England's Premier League and, having seen eight coaches come and go in less than 10 years, some fans and investors are wondering whether it's time for its owners, the American Glazer family, to sell up. Some of the club's fans had previously urged Musk on Twitter to consider buying the club, complaining at what they see as under-investment by the Glazers. United haven't won the English league title since the glory days of manager Alex Ferguson, claiming the last of their record 20 wins in 2013.

French farmer defies drought with sustainable crop

Coutte says the advantages of sorghum are that in much of France it does not need to be irrigated, requires no pesticides and needs only a third of the fertilizer that wheat requires. It's not a miracle solution but it is a solution which, among many others, makes it possible to improve things, to consume less plant-protection products, to consume less fertilizer and above all preserve groundwater and water resources. But sorghum isn't totally immune to drought.
