Despite calling off a military strike against Iran, the U.S. is still poised to hit Iran hard after weeks of mounting tensions between the two countries, President Trump said on Sunday, in what appeared to be a coordinated effort by the administration to keep the pressure on Tehran. Trump in an interview with NBC's “Meet the Press” said he is “not looking for war” with Iran, but warned of "obliteration like you've never seen before” if Iran resumes its efforts to build nuclear weapons. Vice President Mike Pence told Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” that “Iran should not mistake restraint for a lack of resolve.
Authorities say a missing University of Utah student who hasn't been heard from in over a week was last seen meeting an unknown person at a park in the middle of the night. Salt Lake City assistant Police Chief Tim Doubt said Monday at a news conference that the Lyft driver who dropped off 23-year-old MacKenzie Lueck says she didn't seem in distress when she met the person on June 17 at about 3 a.m. Doubt declined to describe the person's gender and says they don't know who it is. Police and friends are investigating the disappearance of a University of Utah student who hasn't been heard from since she flew back to Salt Lake City last Monday after visiting family in El Segundo, California.
The skydiving plane that crashed this weekend in Hawaii, killing all 11 on board, was also involved in a frightening midair incident in Northern California three years before. Federal investigators are trying to determine why the twin-engine turboprop plane went down shortly after takeoff Friday, leaving a smoky pile of wreckage near the fence surrounding Dillingham Airfield northwest of Honolulu in the worst civil aviation accident in the U.S. since 2011. National Transportation Safety Board records show that same aircraft, built in 1967, stalled three times and spun another three during a 2016 skydiving flight in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area, forcing 14 skydivers to jump to safety.

Britain does not expect the United States to request that the United Kingdom joins a war with Iran and London would be unlikely to agree to join such a conflict, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said on Tuesday. "The U.S. is our closest ally, we talk to them the whole time, we consider any requests that they say carefully, but I cannot envisage any situation where they request or we agree to any moves to go to war," Hunt told parliament. The message we are sending with our partners in the European Union particularly the French and the Germans is that with respect to Iran's nuclear programme, this is a crucial week.
Here's what happened. Weird: India Sent a Really Old MiG-21 to Battle an U.S. Made F-16. On Feb. 26, 2019 Indian planes crossed the line of control at India's border with Pakistan and bombed what New Dehli described as a terrorist training camp near Balakot. The Indian air force defended its decision to send old MiG-21 fighters up against much more modern Pakistani F-16s during recent aerial skirmishes.
Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said he underestimated the challenges of governing the country before his shock election victory last year. I underestimated because we were on the outside and we didn't get any information on what was happening on the inside,” Mahathir said in an interview with Bloomberg Television's Haslinda Amin in Bangkok at the 5th Bloomberg Asean Business Summit. We are having a very tough time dealing with damages in the finances as well as the crimes that were committed.
North Korea raked in more than $120 million a year from a symbolic cross-border industrial zone that Pyongyang and Seoul are pushing to re-open as part of nuclear negotiations, a report said Monday. The Kaesong Industrial Complex -- where around 55,000 North Korean workers churned out products ranging from watches to clothes for some 125 South Korean companies -- was one of the most visible signs of reconciliation that followed the first inter-Korean summit in 2000. The South's current President Moon Jae-in has dangled re-opening the complex as an incentive for Pyongyang to engage in denuclearisation talks, but doing so is complicated by the web of international sanctions imposed on the North over its weapons programmes.
Donald Trump has repeatedly struggled to explain why the number of jobs created during his presidency compared unfavourably with the new employment figures under Barack Obama. Presented with a chart which depicted the unemployment rate from the peak of the recession, the president was asked to account for slower rate of job creation since he entered the White House. In the interview on NBC's Meet the Press – after Mr Trump had claimed his economy was “great” – Chuck Todd said: “Your economy is great.

Talks between OPEC and its allies next month about whether to extend their pact on cutting oil supplies "won't be easy" and may be complicated by the situation facing Iran and Venezuela, Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev said. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and other large oil producers, including Russia and Kazakhstan, meet in Vienna on July 1-2 to discuss whether the oil output deal, which expires after June 30, should be continued. "I think it won't be easy," Bozumbayev told reporters about the talks, in comments cleared for publication on Monday, citing "different positions" among parties to the deal.
A new tanker, which will of course modernize and sustain the refueling mission for the Air Force, is fundamental to the service's air superiority and rapid deployability priorities. The new KC-46A tanker will build upon the mission current tankers currently serve, meaning it will be forward- stationed at strategically vital locations around the globe to increase mission length and effectiveness, as needed, for a wide-range of aircraft, Air Force developers said. Extending the strike range of attack aircraft such as an F-15, F-35 or F-22 brings great tactical significance in a modern threat environment wherein long range strike weapons used by potential adversaries could make it challenging for the Air Force to base and launch fighters within the proper striking proximity.
With more than 150 accredited allopathic medical schools in the U.S., applicants have to make the difficult decision on how many schools to apply to while also considering where they would be the best fit. Unlike applying to undergraduate institutions, the overall acceptance rate for medical school is about 40%, with some schools accepting only about 1% of those who apply.
Viral artwork pummelling city leaders, clever word plays and Cantonese cursing that would make a sailor blush -- Hong Kongers have displayed a characteristically riotous embrace of satire during their huge anti-government protests. Anger has punctuated much of the historic rallies roiling Hong Kong in the last two weeks as the public vents huge opposition to an attempted China extradition law and frustrations over years of sliding freedoms. The first word is a reference to protester demands that the extradition bill be permanently taken off the table, not just suspended as the government has now done.
House Democratic leaders emerged from a closed-door caucus meeting Tuesday confident that they had secured the votes for a contentious border funding bill even as they continued to privately discuss tweaks to appease progressives. Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a final sales pitch to the caucus ahead of a Tuesday afternoon floor vote, arguing that Democrats need to stand behind their plan to tackle the humanitarian crisis, rather than squabble over President Donald Trump and his immigration policies. A vote against the bill, she said, would be a vote for Trump.
Boris Johnson failed to shut down questions about his private life Tuesday as a round of media appearances served only to bog him down further in questions about character and trust. Johnson, who is running to be the next leader for both the Conservative Party and the nation, has refused to address personal questions despite an ongoing clamor to face public scrutiny after a reported quarrel with his girlfriend last week prompted a police visit. In break from his previous strategy, the front-runner took part in three interviews in less than 24 hours, responding to challenger Jeremy Hunt's criticism that he was a "coward" and needed to face greater public scrutiny if he is to become prime minister.

Sanders, who announced her resignation earlier this month, predicted her successor will be “a great asset to the president” in a congratulatory tweet moments after the announcement was made. Grisham will also assume the responsibilities of White House communications director, a post that's been left vacant since former Fox News executive Bill Shine resigned in March.
Yemen's Houthi movement launched an attack on Abha civilian airport in southern Saudi Arabia on Sunday that killed one person and wounded 21 others, the Saudi-led coalition battling the group in Yemen said. Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV earlier said that the Iran-aligned movement had targeted Abha and Jizan airports in the south of the kingdom with drones attacks. "A terrorist attack by the Iran-backed Houthi militia targeted Abha airport, killing a Syrian resident and wounding 21 civilians," the coalition said in a statement carried on Saudi state television.
The construction strategy for the Orca and other drones is to engineer a new “upgradeable,” multi-mission drone able to quickly integrate new technology and payloads as they emerge. The Navy is planning to launch a massive, 50-ton undersea drone to expand mission scope, increase attack options, integrate large high-tech sensors, further safeguard manned combat crews and possibly fire torpedoes -- all while waging war under the ocean surface. The 50-ton Orca, which would not fit in a submarine launch tube, brings an unprecedented sensing, endurance and attack advantage.
