With President Trump signaling that he'll refuse to concede a narrow defeat, some Democrats want Joe Biden to target one state that could decisively block a Trump path to victory.'Aim for the goal that ends it' »
The Trump administration is falling far short of its goal of having 300 million N95 respirators available in time for the flu season, according to internal documents reviewed by Yahoo News. N95 respirators protect wearers against the coronavirus better than cloth or surgical face masks; the name refers to their ability to filter out 95 percent, or all but the smallest, of particles. According to a briefing document circulated on Monday to senior officials in the Department of Health and Human Services, the government now has 87.6 million N95 masks available, far short of the 300 million promised several months ago.
The white nationalist nicknamed the “Crying Nazi” after he was featured in a documentary about clashes in Charlottesville has been found guilty of extortion and threatening to rape a woman. Christopher Cantwell, 39, was convicted on Monday of one count of transmitting extortionate communications and one count of threatening to injure property or reputation, according to the US Attorney's Office for the District of New Hampshire. Federal prosecutors said Cantwell used the Telegram messaging app to threaten to rape a Missouri man's wife if he did not give him personal information about the leader of a white supremacist group called Bowl Patrol.

The boys, ages 5 and 7, had not been in class since Monday, Sept. 21, according to KTVT.
Tuesday's presidential debate between President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden comes during a number of national crises, including historic wildfires on the West Coast and months of protests following the deaths of George Floyd and other Black Americans at the hands of police. And, of course, there is the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that has killed some 200,000 Americans and cost millions more their jobs. Biden, who has been leading Trump in the polls for months despite limited campaigning, hopes to convince Americans on Tuesday that the country needs a new president before it can recover from this year's calamities.
A Boston University professor was ripped for implying Amy Coney Barrett is a “white coloniser” who uses her two adopted Haitian children as “props.” Ibram X Kendi is now facing backlash and calls for his sacking after making the claims on social media. Ms Barrett, a white woman, has seven children including two Black children she and her husband adopted from the impoverished Caribbean island.
The Fort Lauderdale police department released body camera footage showing former Trump campaign manager, Brad Parscale, being tackled and arrested outside his home on Sunday evening. The video shows Parscale being tackled by officers after he eventually emerged from his home, shirtless and holding a beer. Responding officers, who observed bruises on Candice's face and body, seized 10 firearms from the couple's home, according to a police report obtained by Business Insider.
Anything can go wrong—from a faulty connection, a verbal slip-up, or, as was the case on Tuesday morning's Fox & Friends, Rudy Giuliani bellowing insane conspiracy theories at the nation with no obvious way to stop him. It's always a risk to allow Giuliani to share his wildly unpredictable stream of consciousness live. The man who was named Time magazine's Person of the Year for 2001 has long been reduced to sharing the latest Trumpist conspiracy theories on any cable news channel that has the budget to cover any possible subsequent defamation lawsuits.

A trained hostage negotiatior was dispatched to the house on Juneva Place, but as the "incident unfolded, shots were fired," the Marion County Sheriff's Office statement added.
Tuesday's hearing comes weeks after a federal appeals court ruled that Sullivan did not have to immediately dismiss the prosecution just because the Justice Department wants him to, and returned the case to the judge for future consideration. The 8-2 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, reversed a previous decision by a three-judge panel, in a long and politically fraught legal case of the former Army general. At issue before the appeals court was whether Sullivan abused his powers when he did not immediately grant dismissal of the case against Flynn after the Justice Department decided to drop the prosecution.
A new advertising campaign from anti-corruption non-profit RepresentUs uses deepfake technology to deliver a message about democracy. In two different videos, deepfake representations of Russian president Vladimir Putin and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un say that Americans don't need foreign interference to ruin their democracy. The campaign is intended to be shocking, and drive viewers to take actions like volunteer to work at polling stations and check their voter registration.
Ukraine on Tuesday marked the 79th anniversary of the Babi Yar massacre, one of the most infamous mass slaughters of World War II. Babi Yar, a ravine in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, is where nearly 34,000 Jews were killed within 48 hours in 1941 when the city was under Nazi occupation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy visited the Babi Yar monument on Tuesday and took part in a ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the tragedy.

Wesley Barnes, who works in Thailand, had posted several reviews on different platforms allegedly accusing the resort of "modern day slavery". The Sea View Resort, however, said the harsh criticism by the former guest was untrue and damaging to the hotel's reputation.
Why do we care about President Donald Trump's tax returns? Is it just because they offer us another episode of reality TV, a window into the lives of the rich and famous? I would argue there are at least three things we learned from the president's returns that should concern us as voters, not just as voyeurs.
Another Confederate monument has been uprooted in the South, amid the US's heightened focus on racial and social injustice. In the city of Anniston, Alabama, a 115-year-old monument of Confederate artillery officer John Pelham, who died in the Civil War, was quietly removed just after midnight on Monday. The memorial, which was erected in 1905, referred to Pelham as "gallant" in an inscription on its base.
Thousands of fire-sapped California residents were forced to flee a pair of new blazes on Monday that have killed at least three people, torched nearly 70,000 acres and prompted a state of emergency in three counties. The breakneck Zogg Fire had burned through 31,200 acres near Redding in Northern California, while the Glass Fire had charred more than 36,200 acres in the Napa and Sonoma wine country north of San Francisco, according to Cal Fire. Both fires were at 0% containment as of Monday night. The fires, driven by gusty winds, burned several structures on Sunday night into Monday morning, including homes in Santa Rosa, as well as the Chateau Boswell winery and the nearby Black Rock Inn in the Napa County town of St. Helena.

Michael Owen Jr., who was a 10-year veteran of the police department, has been jailed since his arrest.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday announced that the city was seeing its highest positive test rate for coronavirus since June, at a daily rate of 3.25 per cent. The announcement comes the same day hundreds of thousands of children return to in-person classrooms for the first time since the pandemic shut down the city. The mayor on Friday ordered New York police and sheriffs to enforce public health guidelines in those areas, and the city's health department has threatened to ban gatherings of more than ten there.
ATHENS, Greece – On Monday, Greek authorities said 12 crew members of a Maltese-flagged cruise ship on a Greek island tour with more than 1,500 people on board had tested positive for the coronavirus and have been isolated on board The Mein Schiff 6, operated by TUI Cruises. But by Tuesday afternoon, all 12 crew had tested negative three times — with a PCR test administered by the cruise line and again with a rapid antigen test conducted by Greek authorities and once more with a PCR test given by Greek authorities– indicating that the negative test may have been a false positive.
Germany's debt load won't reach the level it did in the financial crisis a decade ago as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the finance minister said Tuesday, and it will still look better than that of Germany's peers in the Group of Seven did before the virus outbreak. Olaf Scholz was presenting to parliament a draft 2021 budget that foresees significant borrowing for the second consecutive year as Germany, Europe's biggest economy, works to limit the economic fallout of efforts to contain COVID-19. “If we didn't act, we would have to use much more money, and at the same time squander the future of our country,” Scholz told lawmakers.
The former special counsel Robert Mueller issued a statement Tuesday pushing back on claims his former right-hand man in the Russia probe, Andrew Weissmann, put forth in a newly released memoir. Weissmann accused Mueller and his top deputy, Aaron Zebley, of not doing enough to hold President Donald Trump accountable and refusing to take certain prosecutorial steps out of fear that Trump would shut down the investigation. "It is not surprising that members of the Special Counsel's Office did not always agree, but it is disappointing to hear criticism of our team based on incomplete information," Mueller said in his statement.

Two days later, on Thursday, another 500 fighters from the Sultan Murad brigades rebel faction were similarly flown out to Azerbaijan.
Kentucky attorney general Daniel Cameron used a grand jury in the Breonna Taylor case "as a shield to deflect accountability" over the decision not to directly charge any officer with the Lousivlle woman's death, it has been claimed. In court papers filed on Monday, an anonymous member of that jury called for details of the proceedings to be released "so the truth may prevail", suggesting that Mr Cameron, 34, may have mislead the public. One of the policemen involved in her death, Brett Hankinson, has been charged with first-degree "wanton endangerment" for firing rounds into a neighbouring house.
Liquid water is vital for biology, so the finding will be of interest to researchers studying the potential for life elsewhere in the Solar System. But the lakes are also thought to be extremely salty, which could make it difficult for any microbial life to survive in them. Billions of years ago, water flowed in rivers and pooled in lakes on the Martian surface.
The body of a boater who had been missing since mid-August was recovered more than 1,500 feet underwater in Lake Tahoe after a search that lasted over a month, officials said Monday. The City of South Lake Tahoe said it began a missing person investigation with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office on Aug. 10 after a boat 29-year-old Ryan Normolye rented washed ashore in Glenbrook, Nevada without him in it.
“Enfranchising 16-year-olds would be good for them and good for our democracy.”
“At 16, most kids have little awareness of politics, civics, or American history.”
“Voting is habit forming...which underscores the importance of having as stable an environment as possible for the youngest voters.”
“Keeping the voting age at 18 is not a slap at 16-year-olds. It is recognition that an informed electorate is the best kind.”
“When young people’s participation lags badly, issues important to them receive short shrift in the public discourse.”
