The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed that revenge for Qassem Soleimani's death would be "decisive, serious and real."'These threats are serious' »
Mitch McConnell vowed to hold a vote on a replacement for Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but the big question is whether he has the votes to confirm a Supreme Court Justice only six weeks before the presidential election. Two Republican senators, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, have said recently that they would not vote for a Supreme Court nominee if a justice died or retired close to the presidential election. Collins told a New York Times reporter earlier this month that she would not vote for a nominee in October.
The company is, in fact, a commercial cover for the CIA's Maritime Branch, according to a former CIA employee. We build these companies from whole cloth, from the ground up,” the former CIA employee told Yahoo News, which is not identifying its name, since it is still used in ongoing covert operations. Maritime Branch is one of the CIA's paramilitary components.
The widespread sharing neo-Nazi imagery and pictures of Adolf Hitler on far-right chatrooms by German police has led to the suspension of 29 officers. The officers shared extremist content, including Swastikas and doctored images of refugees in gas chambers, according to officials in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Some face charges of spreading Nazi propaganda and hate speech while others are accused of not reporting the actions of their colleagues.
Over recent days, officials from the newly minted U.S. Space Force and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence briefed multiple congressional committees on an “uptick” in Russian military activity in space targeting U.S. defense and intelligence satellites, according to two sources familiar with the matter. While the sources declined to comment on the specifics of recent incidents, which follow general increases in Chinese and Russian aggression in space, these recent actions were deemed “serious enough” to merit briefings on Capitol Hill, said one of the sources. Officials also briefed committees on plans to counter the Russian aggression, the source said.
A finalist for Trump's second high court nomination, which ultimately went to Brett Kavanaugh in 2018, Barrett, 48, is a favorite of religious conservatives. Barrett rocketed to the top of Trump's list of potential nominees after her 2017 confirmation hearing for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, when Democrats cited her deep Catholic faith not as an advantage but an obstacle.
She called her relatives in Gujranwala who advised her to call the motorway emergency numbers and also set off to help her. According to the complaint registered with the police by one of the woman's relatives, the car was broken into by two men in their early- to mid-30s who stole money and jewellery she had on her. They raped her in front of her two children in a nearby field, and then escaped.
Canadian authorities said they charged a driver for dangerous driving after they appeared to be sleeping while his Tesla Model S drove on Autopilot. Tesla maintains the software is not misleading. "The people who misuse Autopilot, it's not because they're new to it and don't understand it," Elon Musk told Automotive News in July in response to criticism of the feature's name.
The USS Nimitz aircraft carrier safely transited on Friday through the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most important chokepoint for oil shipments, the U.S. Navy said, as tensions with Iran continue to simmer. In a “scheduled” maneuver, the U.S. sent the carrier and several other warships through the strait, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf, according to the U.S. Navy's Bahrain-based 5th fleet. The Nimitz, America's oldest carrier in active service, carries some 5,000 sailors and Marines.
Mexico's populist president Andrés Manuel López Obrador was voted in on a pledge to stamp out corruption and largess that went all the way to the country's highest office. For López Obrador, also known by his initials as Amlo, the plane is a symbol of the opulence and waste of the country's political elite, and he vowed to sell it and return the money to Mexicans during his 2018 campaign. After spending nearly two years parked for sale in California and spending almost the same amount of money for having it parked than he would have spent using it (about $1.5 million), Amlo decided in February he would just raffle it off during the September 15 Independence holiday.
The last two days of Chinese aircraft approaching Taiwan demonstrate that Beijing is a threat to the entire region and have shown Taiwanese even more clearly the true nature of China's government, President Tsai Ing-wen said on Sunday. Multiple Chinese aircraft flew across the mid line of the Taiwan Strait and into Taiwan's air defence identification zone on Friday and Saturday, causing Taiwan to scramble jets to intercept. China claims Taiwan as its own territory.
Just hours after the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, US Rep. Doug Collins attacked the late justice's position on abortion on Twitter. Collins tweeted Friday, "RIP to the more than 30 million innocent babies that have been murdered during the decades that Ruth Bader Ginsburg defended pro-abortion laws." During President Trump's impeachment hearings earlier this year, Collins was a staunch defender of the president, delivering impassioned speeches and jousting with House Democrats throughout the proceedings.
Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany says White House will encourage Democrats not to treat potential Trump court nominee as they did Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
President Donald Trump's homestretch push to repeat his razor thin victory in Pennsylvania four years ago won't happen without white evangelicals, and there are signs that critical component of his coalition hasn't lost the faith. It's a group that has often made the difference for Republicans on the Pennsylvania ballot. Trump's policies have helped keep in the fold evangelicals who otherwise might have been discomforted by his style.
At a time when America is straining under the weight and contradictions of its history, along comes the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower dropping anchor off these shores. The recent death of the African-American congressman John Lewis, a hero of the Freedom Rides and Selma, has reminded us of the climactic battles of the civil rights era in the Sixties. From the modern-day Tea Party to the protesters taking aim at the Confederacy's most celebrated general Robert E Lee; from the argument over whether Washington DC's American football team should call itself the Redskins to the dispute over whether we should still honour the Founding Fathers who owned slaves, no country in the world lives and contests its history with quite such passion and ferocity.
Sarabeth and Amelia Irwin were locked in an embrace when they were born at 11:06 a.m. June 11, 2019. Conjoined from their chests to their bellies, the identical twins' arms wrapped around one another as they were carefully lifted from their mother's womb at Michigan Medicine's Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital in Ann Arbor, said Dr. Marcie Treadwell, director of Michigan Medicine's Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center. About 14 months later, the twins returned to Ann Arbor, where they underwent an 11-hour surgery Aug. 5 at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, becoming the first known set of conjoined twins to be successfully separated in Michigan.

Customers who refuse to take off their face masks at Kirby's bar will be asked to leave, WESH 2 reported. Democrats—livid and galvanized by the GOP's confirm-at-all costs approach to the new U.S. Supreme Court vacancy—have spent the last 24 hours boosting their 2020 candidates, rallying around the banner of Merrick Garland, and, increasingly, hashing out their own scorched-earth political tactics. “If he violates it, when Democrats control the Senate in the next Congress, we must abolish the filibuster and expand the Supreme Court.” The idea, previously confined to the party's left flank, is quietly gaining steam among staffers and aides in corners of the Senate Democratic caucus, who were livid on Saturday at seeing Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and other top Republicans urging a swift confirmation of President Trump's nominee—whoever that person ends up being—after blocking Garland, Obama's nominee, in 2016, by saying the voters should decide who got to fill the slot.
The Federal Aviation Administration hasn't updated standards for emergency airliner evacuations in nearly two decades, a period when travelers have increasingly had to deal with tighter aircraft seats, more carry-on bags and support animals, a government watchdog says. The Transportation Department's Inspector General said in an audit report released Friday that the FAA and hasn't done enough research to evaluate the new risks. “This lack of data inhibits FAA's ability to determine how to improve evacuation regulations and protect passenger safety in emergencies,” the report said.
When Devajammani arrived at the royal court of Mysore in 1805, it was to marry Krishnaraja Wadiyar III. They were both 12 years of age and he was the newly minted ruler of the southern Indian kingdom. The cure for smallpox was fairly new - it had been discovered just six years before by Edward Jenner, an English doctor - and met with suspicion and resistance in India. What followed was a deft mix of politics, power and persuasion by the East India Company to introduce the world's first ever vaccine to India, their biggest colonial enterprise.
Dr. Mahendra Amin, a physician accused of performing unnecessary and unwanted hysterectomies in an immigrant detention facility in Georgia, is not a board-certified OB-GYN, The Daily Beast reported. Trump said on Wednesday that a vaccine for COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, could be ready for distribution ahead of the Nov. 3 election. Hours earlier, Robert Redfield, director of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said a COVID-19 vaccine could be broadly rolled out by the middle of next year or a little later. Trump later disputed that.
Lithium is a type of medication used to treat patients with bipolar disorder, and sometimes depression. Lithium helps manage symptoms of mania and depression. Lithium is one of the most widely-used medications for the treatment of bipolar disorder because it decreases suicidal thoughts — a leading cause of death in those with bipolar — and helps manage both manic and depressive episodes.
Donald Trump has vowed to defy Ruth Bader Ginsburg's dying wish and nominate her replacement immediately, igniting a tumultuous political battle that could determine the result of the US election in November. In doing so the president will redraw the electoral battle lines, making the vote less a referendum on his handling of the coronavirus, and instead an ideological fight over the future of the US Supreme Court. Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and the Democrat leadership in the Senate immediately called for the nomination to be delayed until after the election.
The ongoing spike is further exacerbated by the fear of "twindemic" as the annual flu season approaches The news comes a day after U.S. health officials reversed controversial guidance on coronavirus testing on Friday and now recommends that people who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 should get tested, even if they're not symptomatic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention got rid of language posted last month on its website that said people don't need to be tested if they don't feel sick.
A former Southern California lawyer was sentenced Friday to life without the possibility of parole for strangling his ex-wife and throwing her body off a cruise ship in the Mediterranean in 2006. Lonnie Loren Kocontes, 62, of Safety Harbor, Florida, was convicted in June of first-degree murder with a special circumstances enhancement of murder for financial gain. Prosecutors said Kocontes killed Micki Kanesaki in order to inherit more than $1 million from their bank accounts and the sale of a Southern California home they jointly owned.
“The SAT is emblematic of higher education’s failure to keep up with the times...Just the stuff that systemic racism thrives on.”
“These tests create unnecessary stress for young people already dealing with mental health challenges.”
“Dropping the SAT requirement makes it harder for colleges to compare applicants against a common standard.”
“The best predictor of college success overall is a simple one: high school grades.”
“What matters more is a broader push to help minority students get better educations.”
