Republicans use Amy Coney Barrett Supreme Court confirmation to taunt Hillary Clinton

House judiciary committee Republicans used their official Twitter account on Monday night to wish Hilary Clinton a "Happy Birthday" after judge Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation to the supreme court. "Amy Coney Barrett, confirmed," the House judiciary GOP page tweeted, shortly after Ms Barrett, 48, was sworn in on the high court in America. Former secretary of state Clinton, who turned 73 on Monday, had condemned the appointment of Ms Barrett to the bench, saying it signalled the death knell for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), sweeping health reforms ushered in under the Obama administration.

Justice Kavanaugh seems to argue no votes should be counted after Election Day. He may get his wish in key states.

The Supreme Court sided with Republicans in Wisconsin on Monday, ruling 5-3 along ideological lines that Wisconsin can count only those absentee ballots that arrive by Election Day — even if they were mailed days earlier. Since first-class mail has been taking an average of 10 days to be delivered in the state, Wisconsin's Democratic Party urged mail-in Democrats to hand-deliver their absentee ballots or vote in person. The practical issue involves what happens with Wisconsin's 700,000 outstanding absentee ballots.

Fox News staffers say the network is 'in a panic' about election-night coverage after top hosts were exposed to a COVID-19 patient and told to quarantine

Fox News staffers are "in a panic" about election-night coverage after several of the network's top hosts were exposed a COVID-19 patient and told to quarantine, a staffer told The Daily Beast on Monday. Several top execs and hosts — including Fox News' president, Jay Wallace, and chief political correspondent, Bret Baier — took a flight with someone who later tested positive for the coronavirus. An internal memo sent to staffers on Monday said the network would be paring down staff for election-night operations after multiple positive cases, The Daily Beast reported.

Republicans are on the verge of a spectacular upside-down achievement

President Trump and congressional Republicans could be headed to a stinging, possibly historic defeat on November 3. With the president down nearly 10 points in national polling averages and looking up at Democratic nominee Joe Biden in every critical battleground state, five incumbent Republican senators trailing their Democratic challengers, another handful tied or barely ahead, and Republicans likely to lose at least a few seats in the House, too, it looks as though the verdict voters hand down about the last four years of our history will be sharp and, by the standards of our polarized, partisan era, incontrovertible.

Column: Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation was shockingly hypocritical. But there may be a silver lining.

So now it is official: The same Republican senators who in 2016 refused to consider Merrick Garland's appointment to the Supreme Court because, with eight months to go, it was supposedly too close to the presidential election, have now confirmed Amy Coney Barrett with just eight days left before the election. This is so unprincipled, so inconsistent and so cynical that it defies the imagination. It is the flip-flop of the century, undertaken by the Republicans for one reason: Barrett's confirmation ensures a conservative majority on the high court for the foreseeable future.

The Trump campaign's website was briefly hacked late Tuesday, with the culprits posting a typo-riddled message on the site threatening to release “evidence” of the president's “criminal involvement” in a supposed scheme to sway next week's election. The hackers, whose identity was not immediately known, only managed to crack into the Trump website's “about” page. Within minutes of the breach being discovered, the Trump campaign took down the site, but not before some news organizations were able to screen-grab the ominous message.

Texas officials on Tuesday reversed a rule that would have allowed social workers to turn away clients who are LGBTQ or have a disability. Lawmakers and advocates last week criticized the Texas State Board of Social Workers and the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council for unanimously voting on Oct. 12 to remove disability, sexual orientation and gender identity from the nondiscrimination clause of its code of conduct. The board made its decision based solely on a recommendation from Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and without seeking input from social workers.
