Curt Mills Iran, Middle East The Secretary of State categorically blamed Iran for a Gulf of Oman oil tanker attack; others remain circumspect. WASHINGTON— After weeks of pullback from an otherwise hawkish pose toward the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Trump administration seemingly reverted Thursday, instigated by two oil tanker attacks in the Gulf of Oman likely carried out by Iranian forces. Recent Iranian maneuvers represent a “clear threat to international security, a blatant assault on the freedom of navigation, and an unacceptable campaign of escalating tension by Iran,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters at State headquarters in Foggy Bottom.
An off-duty Los Angeles police officer among three people injured during a shooting inside a Costco Wholesale, killing one person, discharged his firearm inside the store, authorities said Saturday. It was not immediately clear whether the unidentified officer was the only person who fired shots inside the store Friday night or if another person also opened fire or had a weapon. Corona Police officer Tobias Kouroubacalis said Saturday he could not confirm if there was more than one shooter and said no one was in custody following the shooting that prompted a stampede of frightened shoppers to flee the store east of Los Angeles and seek cover inside.

Donald Trump has said he will not fire White House counsellor Kellyanne Conway, despite a US government oversight agency saying she should be dismissed for engaging in banned political activity while in office. Ms Conway has violated the Hatch Act “on numerous occasions”, according to the independent Office of Special Counsel (OSC). The OSC said failure to punish her violations will send a message to other federal employees they need not abide by the act's rules and restrictions.
Of all the places in our solar system (besides Earth, of course), Jupiter's moon Europa might have the best chance of hosting life. Scientists studying the planet are intrigued by its massive ocean of liquid water hiding beneath a thick icy shell, and it's possible that life is lurking there, too. Now, a new research paper reveals that the colossal ocean isn't just liquid water, it's salty liquid water, making it potentially even more like Earth's oceans than we originally thought.
If unrest over the bill continues, it could reinforce existing worries that the gradual erosion of autonomy from China will damage its appeal as a financial hub. “Hong Kong is a Chinese city with Western institutions and a rule of law, and if these qualities are threatened, what would be the advantage of Hong Kong compared with other cities in China?'' said Gareth Leather, a senior Asia economist for Capital Economics Ltd in London. Hong Kong's economic growth slowed in the fourth quarter of 2014 from the previous period, and the government back then partially blamed that weaker performance on the protests, saying it “affected tourism, hotel, catering, retail and transport industries.” The government also said then that “prolonged political bickering is detrimental” to Hong Kong's international image as a stable and efficient city.
Beto O'Rourke took a path somewhat less traveled on Friday, meeting with a small group representing a community of slave descendants in South Carolina as he strives to make connections with the black voters who will play a dominant role in next year's Southern presidential primaries. In a Baptist church in Beaufort, the Democratic presidential candidate and former Texas congressman met with leaders of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, a culture of coastal slave descendants whose separation from the mainland allowed them to retain much of their African heritage, including a unique dialect and skills such as cast-net fishing and basket weaving. "White Americans do not know this story," O'Rourke said, noting that until a tour of the church's grounds, he hadn't known anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman had lived in the area.
China on Friday launched an investigation into FedEx for "failing to deliver express packages" to the correct addresses in the country, state media said, after the US delivery service misrouted some Huawei parcels. FedEx apologised earlier this month for the delivery mishap after Chinese telecoms giant Huawei said it was reviewing its ties with the package service over the incident. The US delivery firm said at the time that "no external parties requested that FedEx transfer these packages".
A Memphis man who was killed by a U.S. marshals task force, sparking violent protests in his neighborhood, was wanted for shooting a man multiple times and stealing his car after posing as an interested buyer, authorities in Mississippi said. Authorities had previously not said why police has been trying to arrest 20-year-old Brandon Webber. Thirty six police officers were hurt in protests Wednesday night in north Memphis after police shot and killed Webber as they tried to arrest him.
The US military released a video on Friday that it says shows Iran's Revolutionary Guard removing an unexploded mine from one of the oil tankers targeted near the Strait of Hormuz. It suggested the Iran had sought to remove evidence of its involvement from the scene. US Central Command also released photographs showing the apparent mine, which attaches to the side of a ship magnetically.
At 2:30 a.m., the choppers fanned out and set to work in teams of two. Rocket motors flashed as Hellfire missiles streaked towards two Iraqi radars powerful enough to potentially pick up the faint signature of a stealth plane. Nearly three decades later, the Apache's status as the world's premier attack helicopter remains largely unchallenged, and the type continues to see extensive action in the Middle East and in demand in countries as diverse as the UK, Egypt, India and Taiwan.

Even though smart home devices are pretty much ubiquitous at this point, they're still often quite expensive. For example, a lamp with built-in Alexa compatibility can easily cost $100 or more! Of course, the smarter move is to keep using your regular old dumb lamp but plug it into the wall using a Teckin Mini Smart Plug.
The teenage girl with pigtail braids was hunched over in a wheelchair and holding a bunched sweatshirt when an immigrant advocate met her at a crowded Border Patrol facility in Texas. "You look at this baby and there is no question that this baby should be in a tube with a heart monitor," said Hope Frye, a volunteer with an immigrant advocacy group who travels the country visiting immigration facilities with children to make sure the facilities comply with federal guidelines. Frye and other advocates said the case highlights the poor conditions immigrants are held in after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border as the government deals with an unprecedented number of families and children arriving daily.
The first four days of Apollo 11's journey to the Moon had gone according to plan, but just twenty minutes before landing, the atmosphere grew tense as the crew encountered a series of problems. It was July 20, 1969, and as the world followed the spacecraft's progress, it briefly lost radio contact with mission control in Houston. Then, as the lunar module Eagle was in the middle of its descent, piloted by Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and mission commander Neil Armstrong, an alarm bell began ringing.

Neither the United States nor Iran have an interest in open conflict, though the escalation of tensions is reminiscent of the “tanker war” during the latter part of the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988). Iran had begun attacking tankers from neutral countries that they suspected of carrying Iraqi oil, and any ships from nations supporting Iraq. The Reagan administration responded with Operation Earnest Will, reflagging Kuwaiti ships to bring them under the protection of the U.S. Navy and deter further Iranian aggression.

Gun News Daily Security, Americas All the evidence. If there's anything you need to know about the company Heckler & Koch, it's that they are pretty much synonymous with quality firearms that are in service with military, law enforcement units, and civilians all over the world. And if you know anything about Heckler & Koch, then you should have heard about the HK VP9 9mm pistol, which was first released to the general market in 2014.
Wobbles aside, Biden eventually pegged the landing: “I can no longer support an amendment that makes that [abortion] right dependent on someone's ZIP code. Biden finally stands where all Democratic presidential contenders must, to avoid the Donkey party's volcanic, socialist rage: Abortion is A-okay until the moment a baby exits the womb, and taxpayers must sponsor it, at least for the poor. Today's Democrats believe that every individual right demands a corresponding taxpayer-funded freebie.
A United Airlines plane skidded off the runway after its tyres burst as it landed at an airport near New York. Some passengers suffered minor injuries when Flight 627 slid off the tarmac at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. Chinese authorities have launched an investigation into FedEx Corp over parcels delivered to the wrong addresses, China's official Xinhua news agency reported on Friday. FedEx did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Xinhua previously reported that China would investigate whether FedEx damaged the legal rights and interests of its clients after Huawei Technologies Co Ltd said this month the U.S. company diverted parcels destined for the Chinese firm's addresses in Asia to the United States.
The players, all clad in different colored jumpsuits, are transgender women awaiting the outcome of their cases while in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is considering opening a second permanent facility where transgender migrants can be detained amid the influx of Central Americans crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. While transgender migrants represent a small fraction of those in federal custody, their numbers have grown exponentially.
