"Once this recount is complete, everyone in Georgia will be able to have even more confidence in the results of our elections, despite the massive amounts of misinformation that is being spread by dishonest actors. There are those who are exploiting the emotions of many Trump supporters with fantastic claims, half-truths, misinformation, and frankly, they are misleading the president as well, apparently," Raffensperger said. Georgia law allows a candidate to request a vote recount within two business days of certification, if the margin is less than 0.5 percent.
WASHINGTON (AP) — “America the Beautiful” is this year's Christmas theme at the White House. Melania Trump says it pays tribute to and showcases the “majesty" of the United States. When Black diners get poorer service from wait staff and bartenders than white customers, it's more likely because of racial bias than the well-documented fact that they tip less, according to a new survey I recently published. To reach that conclusion, my colleague Gerald Nowak and I recruited over 700 mostly white full-service restaurant servers and bartenders to review a hypothetical dining scenario that randomly involved either white or Black customers. Servers who either held prejudices toward African Americans, worked in a restaurant where racist remarks were frequently heard or both were significantly more likely to predict that the table with Black customers would not only tip them less but also display uncivil, demanding and dishonest behaviors.
Christopher Krebs and his team spent years working to build the new Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and help protect U.S. elections, among other critical infrastructure, before President Trump abruptly fired him over Twitter for putting out a joint statement calling the 2020 election the "most secure in American history." Krebs explained on Sunday's 60 Minutes why he's so sure the election was free from hacking and foreign meddling, and why Trump and his fringy lawyers are wrong to allege otherwise. "I'm not a public servant anymore, but I feel I still got some public service left in me," Krebs told Scott Pelley, explaining why he's speaking out publicly.
Investigators in Houston searched a home in the city after discovering the body of Briana Tierra Johnson in the trunk of a car at the end of a police chase. A white Honda being driven by Victor Campbell Jr. was spotted speeding Saturday in Chambers County, Texas. Joe Biden announced six top economic job picks on Monday, but he may set off his first confirmation fight by nominating Neera Tanden as head of the Office of Management and Budget. Tanden was a key Clinton ally during her 2016 presidential run and sparred with Republicans during the Trump presidency. Several Republicans suggested she would face GOP resistance in the Senate during the confirmation process.
For her fourth and final Christmas in the White House, first lady Melania Trump chose to play it safe with traditional Christmas decorations, a patriotic theme of “America the Beautiful” and references to military families, first responders, and a cameo by JFK. The unveiling of the spectacle of numerous trees and twinkling lights follows the release in October of a recording of the first lady complaining “who gives a f*** about Christmas stuff” by her former friend and employee Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. Ms Trump has previously said she is inspired by Ms Kennedy's time as first lady.

President Trump said the other day that he'd leave office if he loses the vote of the Electoral College on December 14. This is not the kind of assurance presidents of the United States typically need to make, but it was noteworthy given Trump's disgraceful conduct since losing his bid for reelection to Joe Biden on November 3. Behind in almost all the major polls, Trump stormed within a hair's breadth in the key battlegrounds of winning reelection, and his unexpectedly robust performance helped put Republicans in a strong position for the post-Trump-presidency era.

Those same four justices are now on high alert for a promising case in which to expand Second Amendment rights, having written repeatedly and emphatically about the court's failure to take gun rights seriously. Barrett seems poised to supply the fifth vote they need. A Second Amendment case decided last week by the federal appeals court in Philadelphia is a promising candidate for Supreme Court review, not least because it presents an issue on which Barrett has already taken a stand.
An eight-mile wall of prehistoric rock art featuring animals and humans has been discovered in the Chiribiquete National Park, Colombia, in the Amazon rainforest. Dubbed the “Sistine Chapel of the ancients”, the 12,500-years-old artwork was uncovered by a British-Colombian team of archaeologists under the leadership of José Iriarte, professor of archaeology at Exeter University, and was funded by the European Research Council. Experts have dated the rock art based on the portrayal of animals that are now extinct, such as a mastodon — a prehistoric relative of the elephant, known to have inhabited North and Central America about 12,000 years ago.
A nonprofit that promised to gather evidence of electoral fraud hit back at claims in a lawsuit from a donor who wants his money back. Fred Eshelman, a venture capitalist, gave $2.5 million to True the Vote to help it pursue claims that President Donald Trump was the victim of fraud in his loss to President-elect Joe Biden. No group — including True the Vote and the Trump campaign — has made an allegation of large-scale voter fraud that holds up in court.
