Emails said to belong to Joe Biden's son Hunter were shopped around in Ukraine last year, while Rudy Giuliani met with officials and businessmen there, sources told Time magazine in a Wednesday report. Two people told Time that they were approached with the emails — with one saying the asking price was $5 million — and that the person making the offer already had a buyer in mind: President Donald Trump's allies. The New York Post shared emails purportedly involving Biden last week, saying they were obtained through Giuliani, who in turn said he obtained them through a laptop that was left at a repair shop in Delaware last year.
Senator Lindsey Graham skipped a debate and insisted he would not return to his home state of South Carolina until Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed by the senate, as polls showed him facing an increasingly tough re-election bid. The senator did not attend the debate previously scheduled for Wednesday against his Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison, stating at a rally earlier in the week that he was “headed back to Washington” and adding: “I'm not coming back until Amy Coney Barrett is a Supreme Court Justice.” Recent polls have shown Mr Harrison, associate chairman of the Democratic National Committee and a former chair of the state's Democratic Party, rising in his bid to unseat the Republican incumbent.

Holly Courtier was found in Zion National Park in Utah on Sunday, nearly two weeks after she disappeared on a day hike. Sgt. Darrell Cashin, who helped the search-and-rescue effort, now says he has questions about Courtier's story and pointed out discrepancies. For example, Courtier's daughter told CNN that her mother hit her head early in the hike and became so dehydrated that she couldn't open her mouth.
Rudy Giuliani's efforts to tarnish Joe Biden's presidential campaign continued in Delaware when he visited a police station Monday to share files from what he said was Hunter Biden's laptop. Jennings' office gave the device to the FBI, which reportedly is investigating the veracity of claims about the origin of the laptop and how its contents were shared with Giuliani's team, Marshall said. "As we've seen in multiple reports, (the FBI) is looking into whether these claims are credible," he said.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was supposed to speak at a left-wing peace advocacy group's online memorial for the late Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, on the the 25th anniversary of his assassination. After backlash from progressives, AOC bailed on the event, which was held the same night she played a video game for a huge online audience. Rabin did terrible things in war, as war makes people do, but he later gave his life in pursuit of peace with the Palestinians when he was killed by an Israeli ultra-right-winger.
A group of U.S. Republican senators asked the Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday to consider a general waiver that would prevent an increase in biofuel blending obligations next year for oil refiners hit by a collapse in fuel demand because of the coronavirus pandemic. Senators including Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia and Ted Cruz from Texas said the waiver for 2021 would help refiners cope with the pandemic, which has pushed gasoline demand down more than 10% from year-ago levels. U.S. laws require the refining industry to blend increasing amounts of biofuels into their fuels each year, requirements that have helped farmers by creating a huge market for corn-based ethanol, but which refiners say is costly.
A video from Texas shows a man spraying a woman with a water hose after she repeatedly yelled 'white lives matter' and refused to leave his property, he says. The video was shared on multiple social media platforms and has garnered more than 400,000 views on Twitter as of Thursday. Ian Doherty said his neighbor has a Black Lives Matter sign in her front yard and that a woman parked in the middle of a street in his neighborhood and screamed “white lives matter” for roughly 30 minutes, according to an Oct. 19 Facebook post.

Court documents detailing "intimate" details of Ghislaine Maxwell's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein have been unsealed and will be made public on Thursday, despite the British socialite's legal battle to keep them secret. The 2016 deposition relates to a now-settled civil defamation lawsuit Virginia Giuffre brought against Maxwell, in which the former alleges that Epstein, with help from Maxwell, kept her as a "sex slave". The deposition is being used by US state prosecutors in their case against Maxwell, who they allege helped Epstein recruit and groom underage girls for illegal sexual acts in the mid-1990s.
Dangerously ill coronavirus patients are making "startling recoveries" in spite of being at "death's door" after being given drugs that dial down the immune system, experts have said. Trials are taking place of several drugs that prevent a part of the immune system called the complement system from becoming over-activated. Speaking at a coronavirus briefing on Thursday, Professor Paul Morgan, the director of the Systems Immunity Research Institute at Cardiff University, said the drugs were providing a lifeline for patients who were near death.
This year's election is looking familiar. Polls have long given Democratic nominee Joe Biden a big advantage in this year's presidential race. And with more forecasting Democratic gains in the Senate as well, pollsters and analysts have started to compare 2020 to 1980.
A woman who has accused President Donald Trump of raping her in the 1990s said she was stunned and speechless after the Justice Department on Wednesday turned down an opportunity to make oral arguments on whether Trump can substitute the United States for himself as the defendant in her defamation lawsuit. E. Jean Carroll watched from a seat in the top row of a jury box as U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan gave a government lawyer a chance to argue by phone, after the lawyer who was supposed to argue in person was banned from the courthouse because he traveled from Virginia. William Lane, a Department of Justice civil division attorney, told the judge the government would rest on its papers, meaning it would rely solely on already submitted written arguments.

Joe Biden broke his silence on Hunter Biden's laptop to dispute claims his son enriched himself using the family name as "garbage" from Donald Trump's henchman, Rudy Giuliani, in a desperate, last-ditch smear campaign. It comes as the Delaware Department of Justice confirmed to The Independent that it has referred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation the latest claims from Mr Giuliani that possible evidence of child endangerment was found on the laptop. When asked if there was any legitimacy to a Homeland Security report alleging his son profited off the former vice president's name, Mr Biden said there was "none whatsoever" and that the “vast majority of intelligence people” said there wa...
Before President Trump abruptly ended an interview with Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes on Tuesday, his aides handed the veteran CBS journalist a large hardcover book that White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said contained Trump's health-care accomplishments. When Trump tweeted out more photos of Stahl and the book, what was "supposed to be a cheeky illustration of an administration hard at work" turned into "a tidal wave of online snark," Rob Crilly writes at The Washington Examiner. That's mostly because the book appeared to be full of blank pages.
The electoral college nearly always operates with a winner-takes-all system, in which the candidate with the highest number of votes in a state claims all of that state's electoral votes. For example, in 2016, Trump beat Clinton in Florida by a margin of just 2.2%, but that meant he claimed all 29 of Florida's crucial electoral votes. Such small margins in a handful of key swing states meant that, regardless of Clinton's national vote lead, Trump was able to clinch victory in several swing states and therefore win more electoral college votes.

Michael Carpenter was as clear as he could be last week, the day the New York Post exposed emails allegedly found on Hunter Biden's laptop tying his father to his Ukrainian business dealings: The story was nothing more than “a Russian disinformation operation.” “I'm very comfortable saying that,” Carpenter, a senior aide with former vice president Joe Biden's presidential campaign, told Politico. In the days after the Post's report, Democratic operatives and many of their allies in the mainstream media arrived at the same conclusion: the Hunter Biden email story was the product of a Russian disinformation campaign aimed at boosting President Donald Trump's flagging reelection chances.
China on Thursday threatened to make a "legitimate and necessary" retaliation over the US sale of $1 billion worth of missiles to Taiwan as Beijing becomes increasingly strident over its claims to the self-ruled island. The US State Department said on Wednesday it had approved the sale of 135 air-to-ground missiles to Taiwan in a move Taipei's defence ministry said would build its combat capabilities. Democratic and self-ruled Taiwan lives under constant threat of invasion by authoritarian China, whose leaders view the island as part of their territory.
