A federal judge in Wisconsin ruled Wednesday that a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the father of a man shot and killed by Kyle Rittenhouse during a protest in 2020 can proceed against Rittenhouse, police officers and others. The father of Anthony Huber, one of two men shot and killed by Rittenhouse, filed the lawsuit in 2021, accusing officers of allowing for a dangerous situation that violated his son's constitutional rights and resulted in his death. Anthony Huber's father, John Huber, also alleged that Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time of the shootings, conspired with law enforcement to cause harm to protestors.
“If you do even a certain simple calculation, it turns out that during the year of hostilities, the Armed Forces of Ukraine had disposed of almost the entire conventional army of the Russian Federation,” he stated. Kyrychevsky noted that since the personnel of the Russian army is “almost completely depleted”, the Putin regime “has to invent a new type of soldier who will serve.” “If before that it was personnel who served professionally, now the average military man is either a “Wagnerite” (member of the Wagner mercenary group) or a covertly mobilized 'Cossack' who was previously trained under the system of the so-called combat army reserve,” the expert said.
Doctors are warning of a dangerous fungal illness rapidly spreading across the country, especially affecting those living or visiting the California and Arizona areas. If you think it sounds like something from the cutting room floor of "The Last of Us" series, where a parasitic fungal infection devastates mankind, there are some very base-level similarities. Valley fever (also called coccidioidomycosis or "cocci") is a significant cause of pneumonia, said Dr. Brad Perkins, chief medical officer at Karius, a company that provides advanced diagnostics for infectious diseases.

Swoll recently stitched a video with creator Jessica Fernandez (@jessica.frndz) after she posted a video accusing a man of being a “weirdo” to her in the gym.
Mahogany Geter, a model in Tennessee, spent her childhood avoiding mirrors. “I felt hideous, like a freak of nature,” Geter, 25, tells TODAY.com. Geter was born with lymphedema in her left leg, which she says caused it to eventually swell to 100 pounds.
An aircraft carrier that was once a formidable flagship is now little more than a floating hunk of scrap with just one voyage left to undertake: a trip to the bottom of the sea. The decommissioned ship, called the São Paulo, is critically damaged, and the Brazilian government has “no alternative” but to sink it, according to a Feb. 1 statement from the navy. The scuttling of the São Paulo, a 32,000-ton behemoth, will follow a 60-year naval career marked by adventure, mishap and rapid decline, according to several naval historians.
Appearing before a federal judge after pleading guilty to a felony charge in the deadly Capitol riot, former West Virginia lawmaker Derrick Evans expressed remorse for letting down his family and his community, saying he made a “crucial mistake." Less than a year later, Evans is portraying himself as a victim of a politically motivated prosecution as he runs to serve in the same building he stormed on Jan. 6, 2021. Evans is now calling the Justice Department's Jan. 6 prosecutions a “miscarriage of justice" and describes himself on twitter as a “J6 Patriot."
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) may have just delivered some harsh payback to fellow Republican Sens. Scott, who confirmed his and Lee's removal, didn't seem to think so. “This is what happens when you challenge leadership,” Scott told the New York Post on Wednesday.
A couple in Israel are in hot water after they dumped their infant child at a RyanAir check-in desk on Tuesday after they were told they could not board without paying a small fee required to fly with the child. The couple were flying out of Ben Gurion International Airport and heading to Brussels, Belgium, on a RyanAir flight, CNN reports. They were already late for the flight and check-in had already closed when the customer service agent informed them that they would need to pay a $27 fee to hold the baby on their laps during the flight.
A Los Angeles County police department is facing intense criticism this week after a video surfaced on social media of two officers fatally shooting a double amputee moving away from them. The short video showed the 36-year-old Black man, Anthony Lowe Jr., missing the bottom halves of both legs, holding a knife but leaving his wheelchair and shuffling away from the officers. Jeffrey Fagan, a Columbia University law professor who is an expert on policing, told Yahoo News in an email that the details of the case call into question whether the use of lethal force was warranted.

Just as retiring comfortably means different things to different people, it also presents almost unlimited financial scenarios: taking out a reverse mortgage, selling off possessions, moving to a place where the cost of living is cheap. Consider taking these three steps as you make an active stab at passive income. A person who's paid off their modest mortgage and grows their own veggies in a small town may feel far more at ease than the city dweller who still has a raft of high monthly expenses that forgot to read the retirement memo.
The United States has answered President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's plea for rockets that can strike deep behind the front lines of the nearly year-long conflict with Russia. Now Russian forces will need to adapt or face potentially catastrophic losses. The new weapon, the Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB), will allow Ukraine's military to hit targets at twice the distance reachable by the rockets it now fires from the U.S.-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).
An elementary school teacher in Homestead was charged Wednesday with having sex with one of his students. Davis Augustine Hodge Jr., 30, is facing four counts of using his authority to have sex with a child. Investigators say Hodge used his position as a sponsor of the school's chess club to lure the then-12-year-old into his classroom at the West Homestead K-8 Center after school on Fridays, where they engaged in sexual contact at least four times.
House Republicans removed Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from one of her committees on Thursday. The dejected duo called it the "stupidest vote" and panned leadership for making Omar a "martyr." Two disillusioned House Republicans unloaded on their vengeful leadership for inadvertently making a hero out of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar by publicly stripping her of a high-profile committee assignment in what one deemed the "stupidest vote in the world."
The “micro bikini” from Kim Kardashian's SKIMS collection is taking a major beating on TikTok this week after one woman brilliantly illustrated just how impossibly tiny it really is. According to TikTok user @bbysarita's post, the barely-there bikini set leaves very little to the imagination — and might as well be like walking naked on the beach. “If you've been eyeing the SKIMS micro bikini and wondering about the size, these are tortilla chips for scale,” she says in the now-viral TikTok.
Jimmy Kimmel sarcastically noted that conspiracy theorist Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is “hard at work” now that she's sitting on committees in the Republican-controlled U.S. House. Case in point: Her question this week to U.S. Comptroller General Gene Dodaro during a hearing on COVID-19 spending and potential fraud in the use of those funds. Greene, a close ally of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) who last year spoke at a white nationalist conference, asked about “drag queen story hour” events, a common target of right-wing ire.
A high school nurse raped a 15-year-old student repeatedly and kissed him in her office, Missouri police say. The nurse, 26-year-old Candice Elizabeth Johnson, is accused of raping the student 12 times over the course of four months, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Kennett Police Department. The student told police that he and Johnson began meeting up for sex in October while also sending naked pictures to each other during those months.
THE FACTS: Republicans have made no such request and have in fact been nothing but supportive, a spokesperson for Raskin told the AP. Raskin, who announced he'd been diagnosed with lymphoma last year, attended the year's first House Oversight Committee hearing on Tuesday wearing a bandana. But as the new Republican House majority takes control, confusion over a joke Raskin made about House rules governing headgear fueled a false rumor on social media.

The construction of a Chinese-owned corn mill in North Dakota will likely be halted after the U.S. Air Force flagged it as a “significant threat to national security.” Fufeng Group, an MSG and xanthan gum manufacturer based in Shandong province, China, previously bought 370 acres of farmland in Grand Forks through its American subsidiary. The city council approved the company's $700 million proposal to build the mill last year, citing economic development success.
Japan's Honda Motor Co said it will start producing a new hydrogen fuel cell system jointly developed with General Motors Co this year and gradually step up sales this decade, in a bid to expand its hydrogen business. Honda will target annual sales of around 2,000 units of the new system in the middle of this decade, the company said on Thursday, aiming to boost that to 60,000 units per year in 2030. The Japanese carmaker is seeking to expand the use of its new system not only for its own fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), but also commercial vehicles such as heavy trucks, as stationary power stations and in construction machinery.
About 25 years ago, a rogue weather balloon wouldn't come down after over 1,000 rounds were fired at it. The balloon entered Icelandic air space and drifted north towards Norway. Almost 25 years ago, a large runaway weather balloon proved to be quite challenge a for a pair of fighter jets trying to shoot it down, staying in the air even after more than 1,000 rounds were fired at it.
The release video shows the furry creature — a ringtail — inquisitively taking a peek at the conservation officer who released it before scampering off through the snow. Ringtails are fairly widespread throughout Utah but seldom seen,” the department said on Facebook, adding that they're mostly nocturnal and feed on insects, small mammals and fruit. The animal, which looks like a smaller, slimmer version of a raccoon, is so secretive several people wrote that they didn't even know there were ringtails in Utah.
North Korea said Thursday it's prepared to counter U.S. military moves with the “most overwhelming nuclear force” as it warned that the expansion of the United States' military exercises with rival South Korea is pushing tensions to an “extreme red line.” The statement by Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry came in response to comments by U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who said Tuesday in Seoul that the United States would increase its deployment of advanced military assets to the Korean Peninsula, including fighter jets and aircraft carriers, as it strengthens joint training and operational planning with South Korea.
“Streaming is beginning to look an awful lot like the old-fashioned analogue TV it was supposed to replace.”
“Streaming isn’t going away … You’re still going to have a lot of choice for a long time.”
“In the future, [streaming] likely will cost more, have a little less library content and cancel more shows more quickly.”
“Streaming is still a game of content … It’s not a matter of who’s spending more, it’s who’s spending smartly.”
“Streamers are retreating from any sort of creative risk in favor of humdrum, lowest-common-denominator shows.”
