The Georgia governor race has attracted national attention as Abrams vies to be the first black female governor in the history of the U.S. Abrams faced off against Georgia’s current Secretary of State Republican Brian Kemp during last week’s midterms, but refused to concede after there were concerns that Kemp used his role as the state’s chief election official to aid his campaign by making it harder for black people to vote. Abrams claims that hundreds of thousands of people were blocked from voting last Tuesday.
A Wisconsin family-owned company decided to forgo traditional cash bonuses this holiday season and, instead, opted to reward their employees' good performance with firearms. Ben Wolfgram, a co-owner of BenShot LLC, a glass manufacturer known for using bullets in their designs, told WISN his company gave each of its employees a gift card with which to purchase a gun rather than hand them the weapon. In doing so, Wolfgram says he made sure the unconventional gift complied with state law.

Northern California’s Pacific Gas & Electric Co. has once again found itself at the center of both a legal and literal firestorm as customers affected by the region’s latest deadly blaze seek to hold the utility accountable. In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in San Francisco County Superior Court, attorneys representing two dozen victims of Butte County’s Camp fire ― the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in state history ― say that PG&E is responsible for the blaze’s destruction because it did not sufficiently maintain its infrastructure or properly inspect power lines. “The Camp Fire was the result of PG&E’s continued practice of prioritizing profits over safety, wherein they failed to properly maintain and inspect their power lines knowing that the likely result was a fire that would pose risk of serious injury and/or death, and damage to property,” the lawsuit says.

It also surpassed the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire, which killed 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots firefighting crew.

The search for victims of a catastrophic blaze that reduced a northern California town to ashes intensified on Thursday as authorities posted an expanded list of nearly 300 people reported missing in the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history. At least 56 people have been confirmed dead so far in the Camp Fire, which erupted a week ago in the drought-parched Sierra foothills 175 miles (280 km) north of San Francisco and now ranks as one of the most lethal single U.S. wildfires since the turn of the last century. Authorities attributed the high death toll in part to the staggering speed with which the wind-driven flames, fueled by desiccated scrub, raced through the town Paradise, a town of 27,000 residents.

The paper, which is close to Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), is one of a number of outlets that has published a steady stream of leaks providing lurid details of Khashoggi’s death, a tactic seemingly designed to keep pressure on Riyadh and its allies.

After all the buildup to an election Day that saw the highest midterm turnout in a century, to wait days or weeks to find out who won a race is painful. In the wake of the Nov. 6 elections, Arizona’s Senate race, Georgia’s gubernatorial race and Florida’s Senate and gubernatorial races went into overtime as local boards of election dived into the painstaking process of tabulating votes. Frustration over a lack of transparency in vote counting in two big counties sparked the ire of Florida Governor Rick Scott, who was leading in his race for the Senate.
