A Maryland police officer was arrested and charged with rape Monday after he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman during a traffic stop last week. Ryan Macklin, a six-year veteran of the Prince George’s County Police Department, pulled over the driver around 1 a.m. on Oct. 11 while he was on duty, in a marked police car and wearing his uniform, according to police. A police investigation found that Macklin forced the driver to perform a sexual act as they were both seated in her car.
In an unprecedented effort to diffuse lingering questions about her heritage ahead of a possible presidential bid, Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Monday released the results of a DNA test that the Massachusetts Democrat said proves she has a Native American in her ancestry. Warren has said that, according to family lore, her great-great-great-grandmother O.C. Sarah Smith was at least part Cherokee Indian. DNA tests can detect Native American ancestry but cannot distinguish among tribes.

As prominent investors, media organizations, and even lobbyists have begun to pull back from involvement in projects associated with the Saudi government, some of Washington’s most prominent think tanks appear to also be rethinking their relationship with Riyadh. On Friday, the Brookings Institution — the center-left think tank that is perhaps the capital’s most prominent — announced that it would sever its ties with Riyadh. “The Brookings Institution has decided to terminate our sole research grant with the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, effective immediately,” the statement said.
For one weekend, a violent misogynistic and homophobic street gang of proto-fascists ran amok on the East Coast and West Coast, seeking out and then assaulting protesters in Portland, Oregon, and New York City. “We’re letting the school handle the matter with the juveniles and the families,” Lt. Paul Doroshov of the Davis Police Department told HuffPost. Authorities launched an investigation into the case earlier this month, after a school resource officer at Da Vinci Charter Academy High School in Davis was told two students used cremated human remains as an ingredient in a batch of sugar cookies passed out on campus. “There were claims that the cookies they baked contained one of [the students’] grandparents cremated ashes,” Doroshov explained.
On a December morning nearly thirty years ago, Phil Bredesen had just gotten to work at his office in downtown Nashville when his phone rang. The call was purposely vague — the officer didn’t want the businessman to panic — but something had happened to Bredesen’s wife, Andrea Conte, and he told him to come to the hospital right away. “I thought she had been mugged,” Bredesen, the former Tennessee governor who is now running for U.S. Senate, recalled in an interview last week.
Massachusetts senator (and 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful) Elizabeth Warren is not Native American. Native American identity is about belonging to a community. It is a specific political, legal and social formation akin to a form of citizenship that is particular to each tribe, nation, confederacy or otherwise sovereign and self-determining Indigenous government—numbering 567 federally recognized tribes and hundreds of Alaska Native, Hawaiian and state-recognized entities across the country.
The co-hosts of “Fox & Friends” predictably were full of praise Monday for President Donald Trump following his wide-ranging ― and eyebrow-raising ― interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes,” which aired Sunday. “I don’t think the president has ever been more confident that he can do the job than he is today,” co-host Brian Kilmeade declared. Kilmeade complained that Stahl injected her “point of view” when asking Trump whether he still believes climate change is “a hoax,” and grilling him for dismissing the mountain of scientific evidence that proves otherwise.

Marsha Blackburn was navigating her way from table to table, saying hello to voters inside a small restaurant in this bustling suburb of Nashville before sunrise last Saturday when a man took her hand and offered a distinctly odd greeting. Blackburn, the eight-term Republican congressman (her preferred title) from middle Tennessee who is now vying for the state’s open U.S. Senate seat, broke into a wide smile. The number has become a shorthand for one of her main arguments against her Democratic opponent, Phil Bredesen, who has made the race closer than expected in the heavily Republican state.

Trump tries to claim that he never offered to donate a million dollars if Elizabeth Warren took a DNA rest.

Witnesses to the Monday attack in the crowded train station reported to police that the suspect, whose name wasn't released, said he was acting in the name of the Islamic State group.
Fox News host Laura Ingraham used scare tactics about immigration to urge her audience to vote Republican in the upcoming November midterms. “Your views on immigration will have zero impact and zero influence on a House dominated by Democrats who want to replace you, the American voters, with newly amnestied citizens and an ever-increasing number of chain migrants,” the host of “The Ingraham Angle” said Tuesday, per a clip shared online by Media Matters. Ingraham also said that GOP voters may be frustrated with “the Republicans and what they failed to do at the border,” but warned the cause would be totally lost if “the open borders Democrats” take the House.
