Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s longtime attorney, fixer and all-purpose bully, was sentenced last week to three years in prison for various financial and campaign-finance violations. In his statement to the judge, he said he had been led to commit his “dirty deeds” out of loyalty to Donald Trump. This has led to great expectations for the tell-all book he will someday write, confessing to his crimes, taking just enough blame to appear sympathetic while settling scores with Trump and everyone else.
Fierce clashes broke out in Yemen’s crucial port city of Hodeidah on Sunday, leading UN and Yemeni officials to delay the "official" start of the hard-fought ceasefire agreed last week. Residents reported skirmishes on the outskirts of town with missiles and automatic gunfire heard near the city's eastern 7th July suburb. Unconfirmed television reports said that the Saudi-led coalition had launched two airstrikes on Ras Isa, a port north of Hodeidah.
Two beagle mixes are recovering after authorities said they were tossed from a moving vehicle onto a New York highway, igniting a search for the culprits. The truck driver, whom police identified only as Adam, said he immediately hit the brakes and parked his vehicle on the side of the road to help. A passing state trooper assisted after spotting the trucker’s abandoned vehicle and then the two dogs, one of which was described as seriously injured. The dogs, since named Adam and Trooper after their heroes, were taken to the Broome County Humane Society in Binghamton for treatment.
Trump haters say that the president pulling out of the Paris climate deal is definitive proof that he’s destroying the world.
New York State Police on Saturday asked for the public's help in finding the suspect or suspects in the incident Wednesday morning on Interstate 81 near Whitney Point, about 16 miles (26 kilometers) north of Binghamton. So far, they said, they have no leads. "These animals have been through a lot, and people need to understand that this is not OK," said Amberly Ondria, shelter manager for the Broome County Humane Society.
The French government was on Sunday hoping the sharp drop in "yellow vest" demonstrators signalled an end to the biggest crisis of Emmanuel Macron's presidency, but conceded "mistakes" had been made. Around 66,000 people turned out again on Saturday across France for a fifth round of protests which sprung up over fuel tax hikes last month before snowballing into broader opposition to Macron -- half the number of the previous weekend. In an interview with Les Echos newspaper published online Sunday evening, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said the government had "made mistakes" and "not listened enough to the French people".
Tumblr, the popular blogging site owned by Verizon, is set to ban adult content beginning Monday. The move comes about three weeks after its app was dropped from Apple's App Store following child sex abuse content that appeared on the site. Tumblr "immediately removed this content" after it was spotted and announced plants to ban all adult content, including photos of genitalia, as well as photos, videos, illustrations and GIFs of sex acts. Former FBI Director James Comey will testify before lawmakers Monday, less than two weeks after a previous hearing left him frustrated that "we're talking again about Hillary Clinton’s emails, for Heaven’s sake." The closed-door testimony comes at the behest of GOP leaders, who earlier this month questioned Comey about his decision to not prosecute former Secretary of State Clinton for her use of a private email server in 2016. Democrats called the hearing between two House committee' members a waste of time.
Nery Caal, 29, and his daughter Jakelin were in a group of more than 160 migrants who handed themselves in to U.S. border agents in New Mexico on Dec. 6. Jakelin developed a high fever and died hours later while in the care of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. "Because she'd never seen a big country, she was really happy that she was going to go," she added, explaining how her husband had gone to the United States to find a way out of the "extreme poverty" that dictated their lives.
The country filed the first criminal charges against the U.S. bank in the global corruption probe on Monday, after publicly urging Goldman to come to the negotiating table or face litigation. The firm already is in the thick of investigations by U.S. prosecutors and regulators over Goldman’s conduct in the controversy. Malaysian authorities allege that Goldman misled investors when the bank knew that proceeds from 1MDB bond sales it arranged would be misappropriated.
Veteran political consultant and attorney Lanny Davis said that his embattled advisee Michael Cohen is taking personal responsibility for his bad behavior and would refuse any pardon offered by President Trump. Davis was Cohen’s attorney last summer when he pleaded guilty to fraud and violating campaign finance laws by paying hush money to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels. Cohen, who was Trump’s personal attorney for many years, was sentenced to three years in prison on Wednesday.

Israel's army said Sunday it has uncovered another Hezbollah "attack tunnel" leading from Lebanon into its territory, the fourth since it started a search-and-destroy operation this month. Israel says the Iranian-backed Shiite militant group has dug the infiltration tunnels for use in a future conflict, and the military has been working to eliminate them. The latest tunnel crossing into northern Israel was exposed at the weekend, the army said in a statement.
Task and Purpose, Jared Keller Security, Here's all we know. White supremacist congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) tweeted over the weekend that the recently shuttered magazine The Weekly Standard “deserved” to shut down and was met with major pushback from magazine co-founder John Podhoretz. The 23-year-old conservative publication known for being critical of President Donald Trump released its final issue on Monday after announcing last week that it would be folding. Trump addressed the closure, referring to the publication as “pathetic and dishonest” and lambasting the editor-at-large, Bill Kristol.

A bomb blast in a northwestern Syrian town held by Turkish-backed opposition forces killed at least eight people and wounded two dozen Sunday, activists and local security said, the latest in a series of attacks along the border where Turkey has troops. The spike in attacks follows Turkish threats to expand its offensive against U.S.-backed Syrian Kurdish forces, moving from the areas it currently controls in northwestern Syria to the east, where U.S troops are also based. The U.S-led coalition against the Islamic State group backs the Syrian Kurdish fighters who have gained control of nearly 30 percent of Syrian territory, mostly in eastern Syria, after chasing out IS militants from the area.
