A North Carolina man faces murder charges after he walked into a sheriff's office and confessed to killing his teenage daughter, the Union County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook. Joshua Lee Burgess, 32, entered the sheriff's office lobby around 9:30 a.m. Sunday and told the dispatcher that he wanted to turn himself in. Once the dispatcher started searching for possible arrest warrants, Burgess told her that she wouldn't find his name or information because he had just killed someone that day.

Forest fires in the Amazon are generating smoke that can be seen from space and may have caused a daytime blackout more than 1,700 miles away in the country's largest city. In the middle of the day on Monday, the sky above São Paulo was blanketed by smoke from the wildfires raging in the Amazon region, according to local media reports. The smoke resulting from some of these wildfires was also captured in satellite images released by NASA last week. The Palestinian Authority has banned all LGBTQ political organizing in the West Bank in response to the news that a pro-LGBTQ advocacy group was planning to hold a gathering for its members at the end of the month. The ban, which was first reported Sunday by the Jerusalem Post, was issued in response to the organizing efforts of Al-Qaws for Sexual & Gender Diversity in Palestinian Society, a pro-LGBTQ political group that held an event last month and was planning to hold another in the coming weeks.
