Just minutes after President Trump declared during Thursday night's debate that migrant kids separated from their parents are "so well taken care of" inside U.S. facilities, the Lincoln Project released a searing four-second ad combining his words with the wails of children. This week, lawyers tasked with reuniting migrant kids with their families told a court they haven't been able to track down the parents of 545 children. They were separated under the Trump administration's zero-tolerance policy, and when asked about this by moderator Kristen Welker, Trump claimed the government is working to find the parents, but added that many are smuggled into the country by coyotes and when kids are ...
Ghislaine Maxwell could not hide her frustration during an increasingly heated and bad tempered legal deposition that was unsealed in New York. Several times during the seven-hour exchange, which took place over two days, her anger boiled over as she was forced to answer repeated questions about allegations made by a woman she insisted was a serial liar. At one point, unable to contain her emotions, Miss Maxwell “very inappropriately and very harshly” pounded the desk, forcing them to take a break.
Nonetheless, the Republican National Committee is paying the former White House counselor $15,000 a month, according to new federal filings. Conway left the White House in August amid a publicly unfolding family drama after her daughter declared her intention to seek emancipation over alleged "trauma and abuse" in multiple social media posts. In an exit statement, Conway said she would be stepping down "gratefully" and "humbly."
Kamala Harris and husband Doug Emhoff met on a blind date set up by one of Harris' friends. Emhoff, a lawyer, has accompanied Harris to campaign events, debates, and the Democratic National Convention. Senators Susan Collins (R., Maine.) and Lisa Murkowski (R., Alaska) voted on Friday against moving the Senate into an executive session to allow McConnell to expedite the final confirmation vote that is expected to seat Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. The Senate ended up approving the move to executive session — which allows McConnell to file cloture, thereby overcoming any potential filibuster — by a vote of 51-46. Republicans are attempting to confirm Judge Barrett to the Court bench next week, cementing a 6-3 majority of conservative justices.
These moments, when candidates nonverbally – and largely involuntarily – respond to their opposition can be enormously revealing. In other words, how people listen and react may speak louder than what they say. Biden During this debate Joe Biden reacted as the emotionally expressive politician he has been throughout his career.
The government of Trinidad and Tobago said Thursday that a floating oil-storage vessel with nearly 55 million gallons of Venezuelan crude oil floating off its coast is not taking on water and shows no sign of capsizing and creating an environmental disaster off the coast of South America. Trinidad Energy Minister Franklin Khan also confirmed press reports that Venezuela had started to transfer the crude oil onboard the FSO Nabarima to a tanker via a barge. Khan said while the process of emptying the 1.3 million barrels of oil from the Nabarima is safe, they are concerned about the inordinate amount of time — approximately 35 days — it will take and plan to ask Venezuela to use a larger ship.
After photos showing his hand discoloured and bandaged went viral earlier this week, Mitch McConnell denied that he had any health issues. The Republican Senate Majority Leader was pictured reaching down to pick up a face mask he had dropped, showing the skin on his right hand much darker than the rest of his body, and a bandage around his thumb. The Independent has contacted Senator McConnell's office for comment but was yet to receive a response.
Former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg was back on Fox News on Thursday night ahead of the final presidential debate, where he faced questions about the recent stories alleging misconduct by Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden. "It's not even clear what [they're] claiming it adds up to," Buttigieg said of Biden's opponents and the new claims. Host Bret Baier jumped in to clarify that the unsubstantiated allegation is that Joe Biden was "discussing all of his business deals" with his son.
An official who helped in the search for Holly Courtier, who was found in Zion National Park 12 days after she disappeared on a hike, raised questions about her survival story earlier this week. Her sister, Jamie Courtier-Strong, told "CBS This Morning" and NBC's "Today" show on Thursday that her sister had been fasting for two days before she went into the park and intended to keep that fast during the hike. She also said Courtier was able to leave the park on her own because of a surge in adrenaline when she was rescued.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that there has been progress between Democrats and the Trump administration on a second stimulus package — but it could be “a while” until a bill is written and passed. On another round of stimulus checks, Pelosi said, “we've come, I think, to terms.” Democrats haven't reached an agreement with the White House on state and local funds, election and census provisions and business liability protections, the publication reported.
One tiny quip in Thursday's presidential debate sparked an interesting Google search spike. It was President Trump's false claim that Democratic nominee Joe Biden "has houses all over the place." Following Trump's insistence that Biden "lives very well" in his many houses, Google searches for "how many houses does Biden have" and, less so, "how many houses does Trump have," shot up.
The bank's Malaysia unit also pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate foreign bribery laws, said Brian Rabbitt, acting head of the U.S. Justice Department's criminal division. These charges stem from Goldman Sachs's central role in a massive global scheme to loot billions of dollars from the government-run Malaysian investment fund known as 1MDB, and the subsequent use of those funds by senior Goldman bankers and their co-conspirators to pay billions of dollars in bribes to senior government officials around the world. The scandal dates to the government of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, which set up the 1MDB fund in 2009.
Chinese tech giant Huawei, one of the biggest makers of smartphones and switching equipment, said Friday its revenue rose 9.9% in the first nine months of this year, but growth decelerated in the face of U.S. sanctions and the coronavirus pandemic. Huawei Technologies Ltd. gave no sales figure for the most recent quarter ending in September, but growth for the first three quarters was down from the 13.1% reported for the first half of the year. Huawei is struggling with U.S. sanctions that cut off its access to most American components in a feud with Beijing over technology and security.
A Belgian Special Forces Sniper engages an elevated target at night during the High Angle Sniper Course, in Hochfilzen training area, Austria. Special Forces snipers from a handful of NATO countries recently practiced taking tough, high-angle shots in what appears to be the Austrian Alps, and some of the scenes captured in the training photos are pretty stunning. The purpose of the high-angle shooting training is to prepare snipers for mountain combat, situations that demand more of snipers than traditional shooting ranges.

His analysis shows about 10 times as many people voted already compared to the same time period in 2016.

Court documents say police found Alexander Hillel Treisman's van, which contained numerous guns and explosive material, parked outside a bank. A search of the 19-year-old's devices revealed thousands of examples of child pornography, as well as evidence he had posted a meme asking: "should I kill joe biden?"
A surge in demand for vaccines to ward off the winter flu has led to shortages in some European cities, raising the risk of a potentially lethal "twindemic" as COVID-19 cases spike. Top manufacturers such as GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi, Abbott and Seqirus have boosted supplies to the region by an average of 30% in anticipation of higher demand. Interviews with at least 10 city and government officials, as well as medical experts, also show systems in major cities such as Warsaw are struggling with the strong early demand, causing delays and temporary shortages.
A California appeals court on Thursday upheld an order requiring Uber and Lyft to treat their California drivers as employees instead of independent contractors, less than two weeks before voters will be asked to exempt the ride-hailing giants from the state's gig economy law. The decision won't have any immediate impact because it doesn't take effect for at least 30 days, well after the Nov. 3 vote on Proposition 22. Uber and Lyft — who along with DoorDash have heavily bankrolled the ballot measure — had appealed an August preliminary injunction by a San Francisco judge.

The long and short of it is, Thursday's presidential debate at Belmont University in Nashville marked the beginning of the end of what feels like a decades-long presidential campaign cycle. Regardless of the ultimate outcome of the 2020 contest, this is the last time any of us will have to smooth out any internal clenching resulting from enduring Donald Trump in a nationally televised debate with anyone, let alone former Vice President Joe Biden. As was the case of the dumpster fire that came before, the second and final presidential debate probably didn't change anyone's mind save for the few Trump-leaning voters whose ballots were being held back on the condition that, ahem, he "act presidential" for once.

Adam Schiff, D-Calif. questions DNI Ratcliffe's credibility; reaction from Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on 'Fox & Friends.
“Many are longtime Republicans wrestling with what they see as a choice between two lousy candidates.”
“Some undecideds turn out to be people who’ve long felt alienated from the two big political parties.”
“They’re not following the 24-hour news cycle. The election and politics are just not a high priority.”
“One common trait: at this stage of the game, the undecided voter doesn’t fit into an easy political profile.”
“More realistically...these voters may not be motivated to vote at all in the 2020 election.”
