Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) said Tuesday that President Donald Trump should not have used the term “horseface” to disparage Stormy Daniels. “You don’t call women horseface,” Sasse said on MSNBC’s “Meet The Press Daily.” “That’s not the right move. “Great, now I can go after Horseface and her 3rd rate lawyer in the Great State of Texas,” Trump tweeted Tuesday, referring to Daniels’ attorney, Michael Avenatti.
Oh, Canada! Weed is now legal in the great white north, making it the second country to legalize cannabis, after Uruguay. “We will soon have a new system in place, one that keeps cannabis out of the hands of our kids and keeps profits out of organized crime,” said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In the U.S., states with legalized cannabis have a minimum age of 21, while Canada’s minimum age will vary depending on location.
Marsha Blackburn was navigating her way from table to table, saying hello to voters inside a small restaurant in this bustling suburb of Nashville before sunrise last Saturday when a man took her hand and offered a distinctly odd greeting. Blackburn, the eight-term Republican congressman (her preferred title) from middle Tennessee who is now vying for the state’s open U.S. Senate seat, broke into a wide smile. The number has become a shorthand for one of her main arguments against her Democratic opponent, Phil Bredesen, who has made the race closer than expected in the heavily Republican state.
Authorities are investigating after a high school student allegedly fed her classmates sugar cookies that she baked using her grandmother's ashes. Davis Police Department Lt. Paul Doroshov confirmed that there is an open investigation into an incident that took place two weeks ago at Da Vinci Charter Academy High School in Davis, California. An anonymous male student at the school told KTXL that he became aware of a fellow student's stomach-turning plot after the girl who masterminded it started bragging to others about what she had done.
A Maryland police officer was arrested and charged with rape Monday after he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman during a traffic stop last week. Ryan Macklin, a six-year veteran of the Prince George’s County Police Department, pulled over the driver around 1 a.m. on Oct. 11 while he was on duty, in a marked police car and wearing his uniform, according to police. A police investigation found that Macklin forced the driver to perform a sexual act as they were both seated in her car.
Acknowledging what he described as “the contentious events in Washington in recent weeks,” Roberts ― speaking to a packed auditorium at the University of Minnesota ― stressed the importance of keeping the judiciary separate from “political branches” and warned of the dangers that can arise when the court bows to political pressure. “We do not speak for the people, but we speak for the Constitution.
“We’re letting the school handle the matter with the juveniles and the families,” Lt. Paul Doroshov of the Davis Police Department told HuffPost. Authorities launched an investigation into the case earlier this month, after a school resource officer at Da Vinci Charter Academy High School in Davis was told two students used cremated human remains as an ingredient in a batch of sugar cookies passed out on campus. “There were claims that the cookies they baked contained one of [the students’] grandparents cremated ashes,” Doroshov explained.
"He made clear that the Saudis had cooperated with the investigation that the Turks are engaged in and that they're going to share information that they learn with the Saudis as well," Pompeo told reporters aboard his plan after left Turkey. "There have been a couple of delays but they seemed pretty confident that the Saudis would permit them to do the things they need to do to complete their thorough and complete investigation," he said.
Dennis Hof, a pimp who gained notoriety for an HBO series about his brothel business and who fashioned himself as a Donald Trump-style Republican candidate for the state Legislature, was found dead hours after his extended-weekend 72nd birthday bash, authorities said Tuesday. Hof was pronounced dead in his private residence at his Love Ranch brothel west of Las Vegas, Nye County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly said. Ron Jeremy, a pornographic movie star who attended Hof's party on Monday night, told The Associated Press that he and a woman found Hof's body after Hof failed to meet them.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) responded to President Donald Trump’s relentless ridicule on Monday by releasing the results of a DNA test that she says proves she has Native American ancestry. Warren’s critics first raised doubts about her claim of Native American ancestry during her 2012 Senate campaign. Trump has kept the controversy alive by repeatedly calling the senator “Pocahontas” in his appearances across the country.
Canada became the first industrialized nation to legalize recreational cannabis on Wednesday, but a legal buzz will be hard to come by in its biggest cities. Some, including Toronto and Vancouver, will have no stores open.Still, it’s a historic day, as
The death toll from Hurricane Michael rose to at least 29 on Tuesday as crews scoured debris for hundreds of people reported missing in the Florida Panhandle, nearly a week after the storm flattened whole communities. Michael slammed into the northwest coastal strip of Florida last Wednesday with top sustained winds of 155 miles per hour (250 km per hour), unleashing a surge of seawater that demolished homes. One of the most powerful storms ever to hit the continental United States, it has killed 20 people in the Florida Panhandle, five in Virginia, three in North Carolina and one in Georgia, according to a Reuters tally of official reports.
Fox News host Laura Ingraham used scare tactics about immigration to urge her audience to vote Republican in the upcoming November midterms. “Your views on immigration will have zero impact and zero influence on a House dominated by Democrats who want to replace you, the American voters, with newly amnestied citizens and an ever-increasing number of chain migrants,” the host of “The Ingraham Angle” said Tuesday, per a clip shared online by Media Matters. Ingraham also said that GOP voters may be frustrated with “the Republicans and what they failed to do at the border,” but warned the cause would be totally lost if “the open borders Democrats” take the House.
As the U.S. Air Force tries to retire and sell its old stocks of F-16As, Lockheed Martin is still churning out new F-16s (albeit built to a far more advanced standard) for countries like Slovakia and Bahrain in 2018. As Russian and China’s 5th generation stealth fighters are nearing completion, some people are wondering how long much longer 4th generation fighters such as the F-16, F-15, Su-27, and MiG-29 are going to stick around. The major reason why 4th generation fighters are likely to stick around for a long time is that many can be considered true multirole aircraft.
American Airlines announced Monday that it would offer more daily flights to Cuba, by 2019, despite US restrictions on Americans traveling to that country. "We have recently started a fifth daily flight between Havana and Miami, and next year (in May) we will inaugurate a new daily flight between Miami and Santiago de Cuba, our sixth destination in the country," Ramon Jimenez, AA's manager in Cuba, said in a statement. The airline currently has 10 flights a day to the island, half of which are between Miami and Havana.

Chief Justice John Roberts on Tuesday stressed the need for the judicial branch to remain independent, taking note of the tumultuous debate over the confirmation of Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh to say that the high court makes mistakes when it yields to political pressures. In a speech at the University of Minnesota, Roberts said he wasn't there to criticize Congress or the executive branch. Roberts cited some landmark decisions that he said the Supreme Court would have decided differently if the justices had bowed to political pressure, including the Brown v. Board of Education decision against school segregation.
Nothing illustrates this more than Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s bizarre decision to release a DNA test to prove her family’s Native American ancestry. In her effort to pre-empt Donald Trump’s familiar refrain of “Pocahontas,” Warren only revealed that she is not up to the task of beating him. If the 2020 presidential campaign comes down to a name-calling contest, Trump will easily win re-election.
Sean Hannity said on his radio show on Monday that he had never heard of the Proud Boys, but he has featured the group’s founder, Gavin McInnes, on his Fox News show and another member on his radio show in 2017. As Media Matters pointed out, Hannity hosted “prominent Proud Boy” Jovi Val on his radio show in 2017, which allowed for Val and far-right conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer to discuss political violence at length.
An Idaho wildlife official was forced to resign on Monday after photographs of him posing with a family of baboons and other wild creatures he killed in September during a hunting trip in Africa went viral online, igniting a firestorm of criticism. In a resignation letter to Idaho Gov. C. L. "Butch" Otter, state Fish and Game Commissioner Blake Fischer cited poor judgment in posting the images. Otter, who first appointed Fischer to the seven-member commission in 2014, said he asked for and received Fischer’s resignation on Monday.
If the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit doesn’t issue a decision by Oct. 31, the administration will go straight to the Supreme Court for a finding on whether an injunction against the plan should be lifted, the Justice Department said Wednesday in a letter to the appeals court. The Supreme Court in February declined to hear an immediate appeal in the case, saying the justices assumed the appeals court would “proceed expeditiously to decide this case," according to the letter.
In an update the 325th Fighter Wing shared on Facebook in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael’s landfall, leadership at the Florida base detailed a “complete loss” of base facilities. Tyndall is home to 55 F-22 Raptor fifth-generation fighter jets, at least 33 of which were dispatched to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio ahead of Michael’s landfall, the New York Times reported on Oct. 11, suggesting that some 22 fighters may have been deliberately left behind.
