Nesting bald eagle swoops down for a bath in stunning footage

A photographer has captured extraordinary footage showing a female bald eagle swooping from its nest to a river to enjoy a bath while the male eagle watches over young ones. Mike Lemery's footage, posted below, was captured recently on the Mohawk River in Cohoes, outside Albany, N.Y. It shows momma eagle leaving to “clean up” and immersing herself repeatedly while remaining on high alert and, at one point, calling to her mate. Lemery, of Mike Lemery Films, told FTW Outdoors that the eagles are caring for three chicks, instead of the typical one or two, “so they have been working extra hard with the extra mouth to feed.”

Avenatti, facing sentencing, apologizes to Stormy Daniels

Convicted California lawyer Michael Avenatti wants leniency at sentencing for defrauding former client Stormy Daniels of hundreds of thousands of dollars, his lawyers say, citing a letter in which he told Daniels: “I am truly sorry.” The emailed letter, dated May 13, was included in a submission his lawyers made late Thursday in Manhattan federal court in advance of a June 2 sentencing. Avenatti, 51, should face no more than three years in prison for his latest conviction, or 4 1/2 years in all, because two convictions have destroyed his life, the lawyers said.

Thank you, Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission for capturing it and making our weekend. Back in March, after the 4-month-old somehow got separated from her mother in Collier County, staffers launched a search in the area, to no avail. When that didn't work, biologists then tried to attract the Florida panther with her actual baby, by placing the little one in a cage in the same area.

Eight Arrested After Snatching Teen at Dallas Mavericks Game

Eight people have been arrested in Oklahoma City for allegedly trafficking a 15-year-old Texas girl, who was abducted at a Dallas Mavericks game last month when she left her father to go and use the bathroom. The girl's family is also demanding answers from Texas police about why they refused to investigate their daughter's disappearance and were forced to locate her themselves with the assistance of the Texas Counter-Trafficking Initiative (TXCTI)—a nonprofit organization that was able to track down nude images of the girl on a prostitution website. The teen went to the bathroom at the American Airlines Center on April 8 and never returned, her family's attorney Zeke Fortenberry of the Fortenberry Firm, PLLC said in a release, obtained by Fox News.

US experiments ‘may have contributed to emergence of Covid’

US experiments may have contributed to the emergence of Covid-19, leading economist Prof Jeffrey Sachs has warned, as he called for an independent inquiry into whether the virus leaked from a lab. Prof Sachs, who has twice been named in Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world, called for universities and research institutions to open up their databases for scrutiny, amid fears labs were genetically modifying viruses. Covid-19 first began spreading from a wet market in Wuhan, about eight miles from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).

Freed California siblings feared opposing rundown housing

Several adult children among the 13 siblings freed in 2018 from virtual imprisonment in their abusive parents' Southern California home found themselves a year later feeling pressured by the county's guardian to move to an apartment in disrepair in a crime-ridden area, court documents showed. Court documents are slowly being released in Riverside County that were previously sealed in the disturbing case that attracted international attention when details emerged showing the parents shackled and starved their children for years. In a 2019 court filing, an attorney for the adult children of David and Louise Turpin wrote that three of the siblings were taken to see the apartment by an employee for the Riverside County Public Guardian's office and were “fearful to object so they indicated that the apartment was okay with the expectation that other apartments would be viewed."

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' planned takeover of Disney's Reedy Creek district could shake up its power structure, say experts

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' plan to have the state control the next iteration of Walt Disney World's (NYSE: DIS) Reedy Creek Improvement District could cause a big power structure shift. DeSantis signed a bill into law in April that will do away with certain special districts, including Reedy Creek Improvement District by June 2023. Reedy Creek Improvement District, the 39-square-mile governing jurisdiction and special taxing district created in 1967 for Walt Disney World Resort's land, is governed by a five-member board of supervisors, elected by the landowners — in this case, primarily Walt Disney World.

When police confronted the white man suspected of killing 10 Black people at a Buffalo supermarket, he was the very poster boy for armed and dangerous, carrying an AR-15-style rifle and cloaked in body armor and hatred. Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia that day cited their training and called it “a tremendous act of bravery.” “It's important to emphasize this is not about why aren't police killing white supremacist terrorists,” said Qasim Rashid, a human rights lawyer and satellite radio host who was among those on social media making posts about the subject.

Baby formula shortages, rape, abortion? We all know who should take the blame

After all, if only women would just breastfeed, we wouldn't have this problem. Similarly, we wouldn't have the problem of rape if women wouldn't wear such provocative clothing or drink so much, clearly begging for sex with, well, every man. And if women would just abstain, we certainly wouldn't have to deal with abortions.

Ukraine's Zelenskiy proposes formal deal on compensation from Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday proposed a formal deal with the country's allies to secure Russian compensation for the damage its forces have caused during the war. Zelenskiy, who says Russia is trying to destroy as much of Ukraine's infrastructure as it can, said such a deal would show nations planning aggressive acts that they would have to pay for their actions. "We invite partner countries to sign a multilateral agreement and create a mechanism ensuring that everybody who suffered from Russian actions can receive compensation for all losses incurred," he said in a video address.
