In her campaign video, Gideon criticizes Collins's vote to confirm Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court as a threat to abortion rights. In October, Collins defended the judge against allegations of sexual misconduct in a 30-minute speech on the Senate floor. Susan Collins's vote to put Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court may be paying off for her, but it's put women's control over their own health care decisions in extreme jeopardy,” Gideon says in the video.
Iran said Tuesday it will further free itself from the 2015 nuclear deal in defiance of new American sanctions as US President Donald Trump warned the Islamic republic of "overwhelming" retaliation for any attacks. Tensions between Iran and the US have spiralled since last year when Trump withdrew the United States from the deal under which Tehran was to curb its nuclear programme in exchange for relief from economic sanctions. The two arch-rivals have been locked in an escalating war of words since Iran shot down a US surveillance drone in what it said was its own airspace, a claim the US vehemently denies.
Britain does not expect the United States to request that the United Kingdom joins a war with Iran and London would be unlikely to agree to join such a conflict, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said on Tuesday. "The U.S. is our closest ally, we talk to them the whole time, we consider any requests that they say carefully, but I cannot envisage any situation where they request or we agree to any moves to go to war," Hunt told parliament. The message we are sending with our partners in the European Union particularly the French and the Germans is that with respect to Iran's nuclear programme, this is a crucial week.
The skydiving plane that crashed this weekend in Hawaii, killing all 11 on board, was also involved in a frightening midair incident in Northern California three years before. Federal investigators are trying to determine why the twin-engine turboprop plane went down shortly after takeoff Friday, leaving a smoky pile of wreckage near the fence surrounding Dillingham Airfield northwest of Honolulu in the worst civil aviation accident in the U.S. since 2011. National Transportation Safety Board records show that same aircraft, built in 1967, stalled three times and spun another three during a 2016 skydiving flight in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area, forcing 14 skydivers to jump to safety.
In what amounted to a face-off at the U.N's top human rights body, Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil insisted that special rapporteur Agnes Callamard had failed to follow proper procedures and used flawed sourcing in her 101-page report made public last week. "Accusations have been launched, and fingers have been pointed — (she is) supporting herself on non-credible articles or sources," he told the Human Rights Council, in Arabic through a U.N. interpreter. The report by Callamard, an independent expert on extrajudicial and arbitrary killings, alleged that Saudi Arabia bears responsibility for The Washington Post columnist's grisly apparent dismemberment by Saudi agents at the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul in October.

It appears that the 2021 Ford Bronco will be powered by the turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four currently in use in the Ford Ranger. The listing was discovered in a parts-lookup configurator at Canadian Tire and was first reported by Off-Road.com. Aside from a few nonspecific leaks and a handful of camouflaged spy photos, Ford has done a commendable job of keeping a lid on the precise details pertaining to the new Ford Bronco.
Prosecutors alleged in a Monday court filing that Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., used campaign funds to carry out multiple affairs over at least seven years with congressional staffers and lobbyists. The new filing accuses Hunter, who is married, of spending campaign money on a ski trip, bar tabs and hotel rooms during intimate encounters with women. Among the five women said to be involved was one of Hunter's congressional aides.
The United Arab Emirates appeared to distance itself from U.S. claims that pinned attacks on oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz on Iran. Honestly we can't point the blame at any country because we don't have evidence,” Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan said on Wednesday in Moscow. If there is a country that has the evidence, then I'm convinced that the international community will listen to it.
The recent oil tanker attacks in the Gulf of Oman reinforce the need to reestablish a highly visible U.S. naval deterrent in the Middle East. For eight months last year, no aircraft carrier strike group plied the region, the longest such interruption this millennium. With the United States needing a more robust posture against Iran and confronting renewed challenges in Asia and Europe, several immediate measures and concerted longer-term efforts are critical to ensure America has the carriers it needs.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has identified a new potential risk that Boeing Co must address on its 737 MAX before the grounded jet can return to service, the agency told Reuters on Wednesday. The new issue means Boeing will not conduct a certification test flight until July 8 at the earliest, the sources said, and the FAA will spend at least two to three weeks reviewing the results before deciding whether to return the plane to service. Last month, FAA representatives told members of the aviation industry that approval of the 737 MAX jets could happen as early as late June.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe pledged Wednesday to seek a consensus on trade and other contentious issues when he chairs this week's summit of the Group of 20 countries in Osaka. Abe stressed the importance of global leaders overcoming their differences and joining hands in tackling difficult issues to send a strong message to the rest of the world. "I hope to lead the summit by patiently finding common ground in order to achieve concrete results, rather than stressing or focusing on differences of opinion," Abe told a news conference marking the end of the parliamentary session.

For now, the Puma is for Europe only, but we suspect it's being seriously considered for the United States. The Puma's platform will be a significant upgrade from that of the Ford EcoSport, but it will also be front-wheel drive only.
John Sanders, the acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, will resign in the coming weeks as the public outcry over the treatment of detained migrants at the southern border continues to escalate, the New York Times reported Tuesday. Sanders has served as CBP commissioner since President Trump appointed Kevin McAleenan to serve as acting secretary of homeland security following the departure of Kirstjen Nielsen in April. News of the resignation comes as harrowing reports of unsanitary conditions at CBP holding facilities continue to emerge.
A divided U.S. Supreme Court rejected calls by business groups to overturn two decades-old rulings that have given federal agencies broad power to interpret their own regulations. Voting 5-4 on the central issues, the court on Wednesday reaffirmed rulings from 1945 and 1997 that typically require judges to defer to an agency on the meaning of ambiguous regulations. The court limited that legal doctrine, though, laying out new guidelines for when courts should yield to agencies.
Police issued a public appeal for a person last seen with a University of Utah student before she disappeared more than a week ago.
