President Trump on Tuesday said he had been “sailing” to reelection before the coronavirus pandemic struck the United States and could have won reelection even if he were running against George Washington. “George Washington would have had a hard time beating me before the plague came in, before the China plague,” Trump said in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. It was really looking good, and then we got hit by the plague.
A police dog in Salt Lake City was ordered to attack an African American man who was on his knees with his hands in the air. A New Jersey gym that reopened against statewide pandemic orders has lost its business license. The 5-1 vote by the Bellmawr Borough Council on Tuesday night came nine days after the owners of Atilis Gym kicked in a plywood barrier installed by authorities after a state judge found the gym in contempt for violating court-ordered limits on indoor operations. The gym's owners, Frank Trumbetti and Ian Smith, have also defied COVID-19 emergency orders imposed by Gov. Phil Murphy and New Jersey Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli.
The Iranian navy boarded and briefly seized a Liberian-flagged oil tanker near the strategic Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions between Tehran and the U.S., a U.S. military official said Thursday. The U.S. military's Central Command published a black-and-white video showing what appeared to be special forces fast-roping down from a helicopter onto the MV Wila, whose last position appeared to be off the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates near the city of Khorfakkan. The Iranian navy held the vessel for some five hours before releasing it Wednesday, said a U.S. military official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss details not yet made public.

The Yantai city government said in a statement the seafood was from an imported shipment that landed at Dalian but did not say where it originated.
Fox News Fox News opinion host "Judge" Jeanine Pirro baselessly fueled a conspiracy theory that suggested "something's" going to happen to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. Pirro added that the supposed event would cause the former vice president to be removed from the ballot during the presidential election in November. Fox News commentator Jesse Watters could be heard in the background expressing caution.

"I've got to be honest," Yang tweeted on Tuesday, "I kind of expected to speak." Yang speculated that the political endorsements he made through his non-profit organization, Humanity Forward, may have been the reason why he wasn't offered a speech slot.
In the wake of calls to address racism and police brutality, some black and Latino lawmakers in New York and New Jersey are urging their colleagues to pump the brakes on proposals to slash police department budgets. City councilwoman Vanessa Gibson, a liberal Democrat who represents a West Bronx district where over half of residents are Hispanic and 40 percent are black, said her constituents “want to see cops in the community.” New York City passed a new budget last month that cut $1 billion from the police department budget and re-purposed the funds for education and social services.

She is one of the first opposition politicians to be arrested under Beijing's new security law -- on a charge of "colluding with foreign forces" -- and could face up to life in jail if convicted.
Should President Trump lose in the 2020 election, don't expect him to concede defeat — it is simply not in his DNA to do so. Consider the 2016 race, when then-candidate Trump lost the Iowa caucus to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. While other losing candidates just moved on, Trump demanded that Cruz's victory be nullified, tweeting the next morning, “Ted Cruz didn't win Iowa, he stole it.”

A day after looters smashed-in retailer's windows, carried away loads of high-end merchandise and overwhelmed police officers in downtown Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot says the violence was an organized raid and not a demonstration of angry protest. “When people showed up on Michigan Avenue in the downtown area with U-Haul trucks and cargo vans, and sophisticated equipment used to cut metal, and the methods that were used, and how quickly it got spun up… that wasn't any spontaneous reaction,” Lightfoot told TIME in her fifth-floor offices at Chicago's City Hall on Tuesday. News of the incident—along with misinformation that a minor had been shot—pinballed on social media, resulting in “caravans” of cars headed north downtown, Lightfoot says.
Harmahan Deka doesn't wear a mask anymore to avoid the novel coronavirus nor does he try to keep a safe distance from others. For the 25 men and women he works with in his construction materials business near the small town of Baihata Chariali in India's Assam state, life is more or less as it used to be, Deka says. In two dozen small towns and villages visited by Reuters reporters in recent weeks, people have largely given up on social distancing and masks after months of sticking to the rules, believing the virus is not such a serious threat.
A study found 50 minutes of dry heat in an electric cooker like a rice cooker or crockpot can effectively sanitize N95 respirators without damaging their fit or ability to filter out viruses. N95 respirators are crucial for medical workers, as they are the most effective type of mask for filtering out coronavirus particles. A shortage has meant some hospital workers have to reuse N95 respirators.
Unlike past studies that have blamed increased pollen counts during storms for the uptick in respiratory issues, this paper found that rises in temperature and air pollution in the days before a major storm were the culprits. The researchers say these thunderstorm-related atmospheric changes are expected to become much more frequent as global temperatures rise, which could eventually strain healthcare systems as more patients seek relief from troubled breathing. Anyone with asthma or [chronic obstructive pulmonary disease] who typically has worse symptoms around storms should be sure to take their inhalers as prescribed by their primary care doctor or pulmonologist,” study author Dr. Christo...
US attorney general Bill Barr made waves with a Fox News interview this weekend in which he called the Black Lives Matter movement “Bolshevik” and “fascistic” – and the fallout is still simmering. Host Mark Levin, who conducted the interview, is now pushing back against the mainstream media's coverage of the segment, accusing newspapers' fact checkers of lying about Black Lives Matter's true nature and declaring that journalists are in cahoots with “violent Marxists”. “I think they would be, you know, generally for bringing down any administration,” said Mr Barr.
“It may be a campaign tactic, but older workers, be forewarned. Ageism runs deep in our culture.”
“Genuine concerns about the capacities of people who want the world’s most powerful job mingle bizarrely with insults.”
“Joe Biden and Donald Trump are both old. But the media should not be making mental illness a campaign issue, on either side.”
“The Trump campaign is now betting his reelection’s already slim chances on Biden proving Trump’s diagnosis is right.”
“The nightmare scenario for Democrats is that, at a pivotal moment, Biden will struggle to put together a coherent thought.”
