Joe Biden campaigners were forced to cancel an event in Texas on Friday as tensions flared in the key battleground state ahead of election day. Local Democrats said they were forced to pull the plug on a gathering scheduled to take place in Pflugerville – a small city about 17 miles north of Austin – due to "security reasons". It came as vice-presidential candidate, senator Kamala Harris, completed a whistle-stop three-city tour of the Lone Star state in a last-minute bid for votes.
Fox News personality Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson is being widely mocked after regaling viewers of his top-rated cable news program on Wednesday with a bizarre, evidence-free tale of deep state-style espionage directed against him by unknown forces who allegedly stole a sheaf of top-secret documents with "damning" information about the Biden family, as it was in transit to him via UPS. Carlson can now rest assured: On Thursday morning a UPS spokesperson reported that the company had found the missing contents. "After an extensive search, we have found the contents of the package and are arranging for its return," the spokesperson said by email.
Jerry Falwell Jr. has sued Liberty University, alleging the evangelical school founded by his late pastor father damaged his reputation in a series of public statements that followed his resignation as president and chancellor in August amid a series of scandals. It alleges that Liberty officials accepted what Falwell says are false claims about his involvement in an extramarital affair between his wife and a business partner of the couple's and “moved quickly” to destroy his reputation. K. Todd Swisher, Circuit Court clerk for the city of Lynchburg, provided The Associated Press with a copy of the complaint, which contains a limited number of redactions in sections pertaining to Falwell's employment agreement.
During recent protests over the police killing of Walter Wallace Jr. in Philadelphia, the U.S.'s largest police union posted what looked like a sympathetic photo. A Philadelphia police office held a Black toddler, with a caption purporting he was found "walking around barefoot in an area that was experiencing complete lawlessness," the National Fraternal Order of Police's Facebook post said. Rickia Young was driving with her toddler son to pick up her 16-year-old nephew when she accidentally drove into an area where police and protesters were facing off.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday said that he first learned about a letter House speaker Nancy Pelosi sent to him regarding coronavirus stimulus talks “in the press.” “I woke up this morning and read @SpeakerPelosi 's letter to me in the press,” Mnuchin said on Twitter. Pelosi aides said they had sent the letter to Mnuchin shortly after midnight, though the treasury secretary said he first saw the letter when Politico's morning newsletter Playbook published it just after 6 a.m., according to the Washington Post.
I knew right away it was my son,” Diane said. And I knew right then someone had killed him. According to Sergeant Chris Spencer with the Omaha Police Department, officers responded to the scene at 3009 Hamilton Street and discovered a badly decomposed body beneath a vehicle behind the house.
Minnesota Democrats and election officials on Friday urged people with absentee ballots not yet mailed to drop them off by hand or vote in person, a day after an appellate court's ruling raised questions about whether ballots that arrive up to seven days beyond Election Day would be counted. Thursday's ruling by a three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said absentees arriving after Election Day should be separated from other ballots, raising the specter that they could later be found to be invalid. The ruling doesn't outright block Minnesota's seven-day extension — which was agreed upon months ago in state court due to COVID-19 concerns — but it raised a host of legal questions and prompted top Democrats, including the governor and attorney general, to warn voters that it's too late to put their ballots in the mail.
Kyle Rittenhouse was extradited to Wisconsin after an Illinois judge rejected his legal challenge on Friday. The 17-year-old was charged with first-degree intentional homicide in August over the shooting of three people at anti-police-brutality protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse argued Wisconsin's request to extradite him from Illinois violated his constitutional rights, but the Illinois judge said it wasn't the court's place to rule on those issues, accusing him of asking the court to "ignore binding Illinois law."
America just posted its biggest annualized and single-quarter GDP growth of all time. In fact, the 3.5 percent total GDP shrinkage during 2020 "means we are still down almost as much as we were during the height of the Great Recession," tweets Diane Swonk, chief economist at Grant Thornton. Economist Justin Wolfers meanwhile debunked the 33.1 percent growth rate the entire Trump family was touting Thursday morning.
Joe Biden lashed out at Minnesotans disrupting his campaign rally, saying the “ugly folks” were not polite for interrupting his speech criticizing Donald Trump over the Covid-19 pandemic. “Dr Fauci called for a mask mandate last week, this isn't a isn't political statement like those ugly folks over there beeping their horns, this is a patriotic duty for God sake,” Mr Biden said. It is the second time in the past week that Mr Biden insulted disruptive Trump supporters after saying they were “chumps” in Pennsylvania last week, and it evokes the infamous “deplorables” speech from Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.
The night of Oct. 12 was like any other for former beauty queen Leanza Cornett, according to her roommate, Sue Roberts. Miss America 1993 was in her kitchen at her Jacksonville home when she accidentally fell, Roberts wrote on the Facebook page called “Leanza Cornett's Circle of Love.” The page was for the 49-year-old beauty queen's friends as well as employees at Walt Disney World, where Cornett had played Ariel in the live-action “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” show in the early '90s.
Prosecutors have brought additional charges against seven members of 1488, a white supremacist gang based in Alaska. The group members also assaulted and removed tattoos belonging to two other members, the indictment says. President Trump made another visit to the swing state of Wisconsin on Friday evening, bringing some unfounded theories and repetitive rants along with him. For starters, Trump celebrated reports that Democratic nominee Joe Biden wasn't driving Black voter turnout, framing it in a way that made it seem like he was happy about the disenfranchisement. "The Black vote is not turning out for him," Trump said of Biden.
Amid a disturbing rise in the number of conspiracy theories taking root in the US population, a new poll has found that nearly one in five people believe that the coronavirus pandemic is a “depopulation tactic”. The survey of 5,500 people also found that nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of Americans asked think that it's definitely, or probably, true that a Covid-19 vaccine “will be used maliciously to infect people with poison”. Only slightly more than half (56 per cent) said that they would take a Covid-19 vaccine, when polled last month.
A Florida man was mauled by a black panther - a leopard with excessive black pigments - during a $150 "full-contact experience" at a backyard enclosure near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, according to local media. Dwight Turner's injuries from the attack, which happened on August 31, were so bad that his scalp was "hanging from his head and his right ear was torn in half," his attorneys have said. The leopard was owned by Florida local Michael Poggi who, according to his social media pages, runs an animal sanctuary for rare and endangered animals in his backyard.
A massive collection of barn-find cars in Kansas just sold for roughly $2.5 million. The stash of more than 130 cars belonged to businessman and inventor Bob Regehr, who kept the collection hidden away for close to three decades. Some of the most expensive cars from the collection include a 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS, a 1969 Chevy Camaro, and a 1953 Buick Skylark.
But despite both of Texas' Republican senators being convinced there's a tough competition in the traditionally red state, both President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden haven't really campaigned there, The New York Times reports. Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) tight 2018 race against Democrat Beto O'Rourke was one of the first indications Texas could become a tossup in 2020. Cruz has tried to convince Trump that "we have a fight" in Texas, he tells the Times.
The claim: Flu deaths are down to almost zero and data is being manipulated. "We went from 75,000 flu deaths last year in America to almost 0," he added. USA TODAY has previously debunked several claims asserting that different flu seasons were deadlier than the COVID-19 pandemic.
It's been three months since the $600 federal unemployment benefit lapsed on July 31, depriving millions of a critical source of government help. Democrats are seeking to reinstate the benefit while the White House offered $400 weekly aid in its latest stimulus offer. Around 15 million people could exhaust their unemployment benefits by the end of the year.
Bettors favour Joe Biden over Republican President Donald Trump in Tuesday's U.S. election, with the Democratic candidate leading in bets placed in a majority of the battleground states that decide elections, two betting market aggregators said. New Zealand-based prediction market PredictIt has Biden leading overall at 68 cents to Trump's 39 cents, while British betting company Betfair Exchange gives Biden a 65% win-chance versus Trump's 35%. Will Jennings, head of public engagement at PredictIt, said odds have begun to "break a little" in favour of Biden, who leads in 10 of 14 swing state markets.
Here are some excerpts from some of the emails: I read a story a few days ago about a woman and her godson, having a terrible experience at a bank. Until I read your column in today's paper, I would not have known it was you. I was a banker for 45 years and could not believe what I was reading.
Police in Vancouver, Washington, are bracing for a second night of protests after officers fatally shot a 21-year-old Black man in a bank parking lot Thursday night. Clark County sheriff's deputies shot and killed Kevin Peterson, Jr., 21, near a U.S. Bank just prior to 6 p.m. Thursday. Protesters gathered near the site of the shooting Thursday night, and mourners planned to gather at the site Friday night for a vigil.
November 2 marks the 20th anniversary of people continuously living on the International Space Station. Over those two decades, the station has hosted 240 crew members and 3,000 science experiments, including growing vegetables in and researching the human body's response to microgravity. But the ISS requires constant maintenance and has seen more issues such as broken toilets and air leaks as it ages.
The complaints from President Donald Trump and his allies have been growing louder as the election approaches: Why isn't the mainstream media covering the Hunter Biden laptop story? Trump and his allies say there is evidence of corruption in emails and documents allegedly found on a laptop belonging to Democrat Joe Biden's son. They say those and other documents show that Hunter Biden used his father's influence to enrich himself through business deals in Ukraine and China, and that his father not only facilitated that, but may have benefited financially.
“Many are longtime Republicans wrestling with what they see as a choice between two lousy candidates.”
“Some undecideds turn out to be people who’ve long felt alienated from the two big political parties.”
“They’re not following the 24-hour news cycle. The election and politics are just not a high priority.”
“One common trait: at this stage of the game, the undecided voter doesn’t fit into an easy political profile.”
“More realistically...these voters may not be motivated to vote at all in the 2020 election.”
