Tropical Storm Karen, which is moving through the Southern Windward islands and could hit Puerto Rico early next week, has inspired the internet to make memes poking fun of the storm's name. “Karen” has become synonymous with the persona of an annoying entitled, woman, according to the internet's meme database, KnowYourMeme, which says the meme may have first come about because of its association with Mean Girls' ditzy, popular high school character Karen Smith. The Karen meme is also associated with a side-swept haircut that is “short in the back and longer in the front” and “mocked as representative of middle-aged women” obsessed with complaining to store managers, KnowYourMeme says.
"Fleabag" was the big winner of the night, taking home the status for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series — beating out Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who has consecutively won for "Veep" every single year since the show's premiere. The only year she wasn't nominated was 2018 as the show was on hiatus while she battled breast cancer. Billy Porter made LGBTQ Emmys history as he won Lead Actor in a Drama Series for "Pose," and a moved but composed Peter Dinklage took home a well-deserved Supporting Actor statue for his "Game of Thrones" role.
Once a bus wreck peppered with bullet holes, the pristine white water tanker parked in front of a Yemen university now delivers water to students in the war-torn and cholera-hit south. Sitting among still battle-scarred buses, the tanker was repurposed by student welfare officer Nashwan el-Rebasi, who has made a mini fleet of water transporters for the university at the foot of the Taez mountains. "The idea was born out of the water shortages in the region and the total lack of a reservoir at the university," said the 35-year-old.
WASHINGTON – The New York Post published an "obituary" for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's now-concluded presidential campaign. De Blasio, who is currently serving his second term as mayor, was blasted by the newspaper, which wrote that his campaign had "died" from "ego-induced psychosis." Neighbors said the body had been in rigor mortis for some time,” the mock obituary says.

Protesters in Hong Kong have trampled a Chinese flag, vandalized a subway station and set a fire across a wide street, as pro-democracy demonstrations took a violent turn once again. Sunday's action began peacefully, as protesters filled a shopping mall and, in a new twist, folded paper "origami" cranes that they tied onto a large rigging that they assembled in the mall in the Shatin district. Some put a Chinese flag on the floor and took turns running over it, before defacing it and putting it in a dumpster outside, which they then pushed into a nearby river.

While the upcoming rainfall will go a long way in helping to ease the dry conditions, AccuWeather meteorologists are concerned the rain may trigger flash flooding and debris flows in the arid terrain. Arizona looks to be the main target for widespread showers and thunderstorms, as well as flash flooding concerns from Monday into Tuesday, with lesser impacts on surrounding areas, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist and western U.S. blogger Brian Thompson. A potent storm system in the upper levels of the atmosphere will dive southward across the West into Tuesday.

WASHINGTON – While Democrats stepped up calls for impeachment, President Donald Trump directly acknowledged Sunday that he spoke with the president of Ukraine about an investigation into political opponent Joe Biden, but called the talk appropriate. Speaking with reporters en route to a trip to Texas and Ohio, Trump said: "The conversation I had was largely congratulatory, was largely corruption – all of the corruption taking place – it was largely the fact that we don't want our people like Vice President Biden and his son" contributing to the corruption already in the Ukraine.
The conventional wisdom that the court is split along partisan lines based on the political views of the president that appointed each justice is false, a U.S. Supreme Court justice said. Gorsuch is considered one of the Supreme Court's most conservative members, though he recently agreed with more liberal colleagues in a decision reaffirming a criminal defendant's right to a jury trial. Gorsuch noted he uses the original meaning of the Constitution to guide his judicial decisions, in contrast with judges who believe interpretations of the document should evolve over time.
DUBAI/RIYADH, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia will seek to make a case at a global gathering in New York this week for concerted action to punish and deter arch-foe Iran after strikes on Saudi oil plants rattled global markets and exposed the kingdom's vulnerability to attack. As it tries to build a coalition, Riyadh is preparing to provide evidence to the U.N. General Assembly which it says will prove Iran was behind the Sept. 14 drone and missile assault which initially drastically affected its oil output, a view shared by Washington. Riyadh says Iranian weapons were launched from the north and that it is working to pinpoint the exact location.
The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps are considering acquiring small transport ships in order to complement existing large amphibious vessels and give the fleet more ways of landing troops during a major war. The new small transports, perhaps based on the oil and gas industry's typical offshore support vessel, could represent a revival of a defunct class of warship that once filled a variety of roles in the American fleet. “As the Navy and the Marine Corps narrow in on what their future amphibious operations might look like, they are considering acquiring something akin to an offshore support vessel to help Marines distribute around a littoral environment in a future fight,” Megan Eckstein wrote for the news website of the U.S. Naval Institute.
