President Trump attacked Joe Biden and the nation's top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, during a campaign rally in Prescott, Ariz., on Monday, saying both men have been wrong about implementing strict measures to battle the coronavirus pandemic that has so far killed more than 220,000 Americans. “This is all a choice between getting a safe vaccine or really a lockdown,” Trump said. Trump, who was tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 1 after months of downplaying the seriousness of the pandemic and spent three days in the hospital thanks to the virus, also continued to minimize the seriousness of the disease.
The Philippine president has said he has no problem with being held responsible for the many killings under his anti-drugs crackdown, adding that he was ready to face charges that could land him in jail, though not charges of crimes against humanity. President Rodrigo Duterte's televised remarks Monday night were among his clearest acknowledgement of the prospects that he could face a deluge of criminal charges for the bloody campaign he launched after taking office in mid-2016. Nearly 6,000 killings of drug suspects have been reported by police but rights watchdogs suspect the death toll is far larger.
Employees at a Florida manufacturing company got letters along with their pay stubs warning they might lose their job if President Trump isn't re-elected. While sending out letters like these is legal, the move was controversial enough it helped one employee decide to quit. "If Trump and the Republicans win (the election), DMC will hopefully be able to continue operating, more or less as it has been operating lately,” read the letter, which went out to the 170 or so employees of aerospace supplier Daniels Manufacturing, Orlando's WESH reported.
Dr. Deborah Birx has reportedly been trying to get controversial adviser Dr. Scott Atlas removed from the White House coronavirus task force. A new report in The Washington Post describes the "discord on the coronavirus task force" that has reportedly "worsened" ever since the arrival of Atlas, a neuroradiologist who has no background in epidemiology. Atlas has reportedly "succeeded in largely sidelining" other doctors on the White House coronavirus task force, has challenged analysis from Birx and others with what experts have dismissed as "junk science," and is seen by colleagues as "ill-informed, manipulative and at times dishonest."
More than 50 former intelligence officials wrote a public letter Monday stating they were "deeply suspicious" that there was Russian influence in the dubious New York Post stories published about Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. In the letter, first reported by Politico, the intel officers said they believe the stories about emails purportedly belonging to Hunter Biden have "all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation." The tabloid came into possession of the computer's contents, which purportedly belonged to Hunter and contained the emails and other materials that the Post wrote about, after Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani delivered a copy of the hard drive to the outlet.
China and Taiwan traded accusations Monday over a violent altercation that broke out between Chinese diplomats and Taiwan government employees at a recent Taiwan National Day reception in Fiji. Both China and Taiwan confirmed the Oct. 8 incident but each disputed the other's claim of what precipitated the fight, which resulted in one Taiwanese staffer being sent to a hospital with a head injury. One of the Chinese diplomats also was injured.
Republican and Democrat operatives aren't the only ones planning to keep a close eye on polling sites in South Florida. So will many police departments, citing growing public concerns about potential voter intimidation efforts or potentially violent protests in an election with a bitterly divisive presidential race at the top of the ballot. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Police Chief Jorge Colina, at a press conference on Monday, said the city had canceled all vacation and days off for sworn officers for the next two weeks and will deploy plainclothes detectives near the city's four early voting sites.
Ghislaine Maxwell has lost her legal battle to keep sworn depositions giving intimate details about her personal life under wraps. A federal appeals court upheld a decision from a lower court that the testimony given by the 58-year-old socialite and associate of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein should be made public. Maxwell is currently being held at a Brooklyn prison awaiting trial on charges that she helped Epstein recruit underage girls as young as 14 to engage in sexual acts in the mid-1990s.

Hadassah Medical Center described Erekat's case as extremely challenging given his history of health problems, including a lung transplant performed in the United States three years ago. It said he suffered from a weak immune system and a bacterial infection in addition to COVID-19.
Donald Trump has slammed CNN for its coverage of the coronavirus pandemic, calling the media organisation dumb b******s when speaking to a campaign rally crowd in Arizona. The president has been pushing multiple fights on Monday, including targeting Dr Anthony Fauci both in tweets and during a phone call with his campaign team. Mr Trump called the infectious disease expert a “disaster” and an “idiot” in the phone call before further attacking Dr Fauci in tweets.
Like high school students all over the world, Petch has seen his studies upended this year by the global pandemic. But it's also been a year of turmoil for another reason: Thai students are on the march, demanding political and social change. Last week, Petch, age 16, stood in a rain-lashed crowd at Rajprasong, a downtown transit intersection, wearing his school uniform and soaking up the atmosphere of defiance in the air.
MOSCOW—The man known as "Putin's attack dog" has spent years promoting a violent response to the publication of controversial cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. When a teenager from a Chechen family beheaded a school teacher in France on Friday for sharing these images with his class, Ramzan Kadyrov, the Putin-backed ruler of Chechnya, took to social media to lecture France about its “unacceptable attitude to Islamic values.” With a white vest on, Kadyrov spoke to a crowd of about a million people, calling on Muslims to rise against those who “deliberately kindle the fire of religious hostility.”

Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said more than 80 coffins were found.
With President Donald Trump trailing in public polls in nearly every major battleground state, Republicans are pointing to what they see as more promising data: Updated voter registration tallies show that Republicans have narrowed the gap with Democrats in three critical states. As the presidential campaign heads into its final weeks, Republicans hope that gains in voter registration in the three states — Florida, North Carolina and Pennsylvania — and heavy turnout by those new party members might just be enough to propel Trump to a second term.
She may be on the verge of becoming America's first lady if her husband wins the White House, but don't expect Dr Jill Biden to give up her teaching career. For Dr Biden, who has four university degrees, says she plans on continuing to work full time as a community college professor even if her husband becomes the world's most powerful politician. If that plays out Dr Biden, who has five grandchildren, would become the first first lady to to have a career outside of the White House.
More than 20 months after a Venezuelan oil tanker carrying nearly 55 million gallons of crude oil was abandoned off the country's northern coast following tightened U.S. sanctions, inspectors from neighboring Trinidad and Tobago will finally get a chance to see for themselves if the idle vessel's cargo could lead to a major ecological disaster off the Caribbean coast of South America. Trinidad and Tobago's energy and foreign ministers both confirmed to the Miami Herald that a team will head out Tuesday to visit the Venezuelan-flagged floating storage and offloading vessel Nabarima, which environmentalists say is taking on water and threatening to spill 1.3 million barrels of oil into the gulf between both countries. The ship is in the Gulf of Paria, between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago.

IBM shares, however, fell 3% after the company stayed away from issuing a forecast for the current quarter, citing uncertainty around a global economic recovery due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "Clients' near-term priorities continue to include operational stability, flexibility and cash preservation, which tends to favor (operating expenses) over (capital expenses)," Chief Financial Officer James Kavanaugh said. Revenue from the cloud business, previously headed by Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna, rose 19% to $6 billion in the third quarter, offsetting weakness in much of its other businesses.

It said the soldier “had strayed” across the de facto border along the eastern section of what's known as the Line of Actual Control, a loose demarcation separating Indian- and Chinese-controlled areas.

Louisville narcotics officers did have a warrant for Taylor's address to search her apartment on March 13. But the warrant shows she was not the main target of the drug investigation and that no illegal narcotics were found inside the apartment. Harris' call for an outside agency to look into the case echoes local civil rights leaders who have said there needs to be an independent federal investigation.
