Asian spider takes hold in Georgia, sends humans scurrying

A large spider native to East Asia has spun its thick, golden web on power lines, porches and vegetable patches all over north Georgia this year โ€” a proliferation that has driven some unnerved homeowners indoors and prompted a flood of anxious social media posts. In metro Atlanta, Jennifer Turpin โ€” a self-described arachnophobe โ€” stopped blowing leaves in her yard after inadvertently walking into a web created by the Joro spider. Stephen Carter has avoided a walking trail along the Chattahoochee River where he encountered Joro webs every dozen steps.

Florida Mom Says She's Been Banned from Volunteering at Kids' School Because She's on OnlyFans

A mother from Florida says she was told she could no longer volunteer at her children's elementary school due to having an OnlyFans page. During a press conference this week, mom Victoria Triece told reporters that a parent at her children's school alerted staff to her account on OnlyFans, the subscription service that has become popular thanks to its user-generated adult content. Triece โ€” whose children are ages 5 and 10 โ€” said she regularly helps organize activities at the school but claims she was banned after the unidentified parent sent images from her subscription-only page to administrators.

Jurors reveal it was something Derek Chauvin didn't do that convinced them all to vote guilty

Seven of the jurors from the Derek Chauvin trial sat down Thursday for an exclusive interview on Don Lemon Tonight to speak publicly about the trial for the first time. Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, was found guilty last April on three counts related to the killing of George Floyd: second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. While the jurors all pretty much agreed on a guilty verdict for two of the charges, the third-degree murder took extra deliberation.

Trump's real-estate empire pays the price for poisonous politics

But the same tactics that have inspired fierce political loyalty have undermined Trump's business, built around real-estate development and branding deals that have allowed him to make millions by licensing his name. Trump's business brand was once synonymous with wealth and success, an image that now clashes sharply with a political brand rooted in the anger of his largely rural and working-class voter base. His presidency is now associated in the minds of many with its violent end, as supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Toyota's first battery EV has 280-mile range and a solar roof option

This past April, Toyota teased the bZ4X, the first of seven โ€œBeyond Zeroโ€ fully electric vehicles the automaker said it would debut by 2025. Other than to reveal it was working with Subaru to develop the SUV and that it would include its upcoming e-TNGA powertrain, the company didn't share many details about the bZ4X. On Friday, it changed that by unveiling the production version of the vehicle. Toyota will offer the bZ4X in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants.

Traditionalists flood Rome after pope's Latin Mass crackdown

Traditionalist Catholics descended on Rome on Friday for their annual pilgrimage, hoping to show the vibrancy of their community after Pope Francis issued a crackdown on the spread of the old Latin Mass that many took as an attack on them and the ancient rite. An evening vespers service at Rome's Pantheon basilica, the first event of the three-day pilgrimage, was so full that ushers had to add two rows of chairs to accommodate the faithful. One of the Vatican's โ€œceremoniere,โ€ or official priests, Monsignor Marco Agostini, celebrated the evening service, which featured Latin chants, incense and brocaded vestments with the priests facing the altar rather than the pews.

'Stop pandering to students', universities told after trans-row professor Kathleen Stock quits

Students should be told during Freshers' Week that universities are not there to protect their feelings, academics have said as they call for change in the wake of a professor's resignation. The โ€œreal blameโ€ for the โ€œludicrousโ€ culture that has emerged on British campuses lies with universities rather than โ€œyoung and immatureโ€ students, a leading Oxford scholar has said. Prof Michael Biggs, an expert in sociology at Oxford University, told The Telegraph: "Instead of endlessly pandering to the students, universities need to make it very, very clear in the inductions, in Freshers' Week, that the institution exists to uphold academic freedom.
