Kamala Harris's unsparing questioning of Brett Kavanaugh when the then D.C. Circuit Court judge was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Trump won the senator praise for her prosecutorial skill. Critics at the time, however, said Harris's treatment of Kavanaugh was an obvious and out-of-line attempt to raise her political profile. “She was extraordinarily nasty to Kavanaugh — Judge Kavanaugh then, now Justice Kavanaugh,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday during a briefing at the White House, not long after Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, announced Harris as his running mate.
Former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith will plead guilty to falsifying a document used to obtain a FISA warrant on former Trump-campaign adviser Carter Page. The probe is being led by prosecutor John Durham, who was appointed to the task by Attorney General William Barr.
U.S. Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden hailed the deal between on Israel and the United Arab Emirates announced on Wednesday as an historic step toward a more stable Middle East, warning he would not support Israel's annexation of Jewish settlements if he wins the White House in November. "The UAE's offer to publicly recognize the State of Israel is a welcome, brave, and badly-needed act of statesmanship," the former Vice President said in a statement. "Annexation would be a body blow to the cause of peace, which is why I oppose it now and would oppose it as president."

Footage showed the two men covered in blood from apparent head wounds, wielding the running saws and shouting “who hit me”.

The NRA is just a political tool for us to be able to arm ourselves, but we don't buy into the politics of any of it since it's the right of every American to take advantage of [the Second Amendment],” says Mr. Omowale, who has joined armed rallies recently on behalf of Black rights. I believe it's time for [Black people] to start our own NRA. As New York prosecutors aim to dissolve the NRA in a lawsuit alleging self-dealing and mismanagement, one thing is becoming clear to Mr. Omowale: Even as more Americans are exercising their Second Amendment rights, the NRA's framing of that right as a conservative political ideal is losing potency.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on Thursday said he's dropping a lawsuit against the city of Atlanta in a dispute over the city's requirement to wear masks in public and other restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic. Kemp had sued Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and the City Council to block them from implementing restrictions at the local level, even as case counts and hospitalizations in the state soared. The Republican governor argued that local governments can't impose measures that are more or less restrictive than those in his statewide executive orders, which have strongly urged people to wear masks but not required them.

"There can never be any place in Chicago where businesses are afraid to open, where residents and visitors are afraid to travel and shop, or where employees are afraid to go to work."
Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is slamming recent comments from President Trump he says prove his opponent doesn't "want an election." Biden spoke Thursday after Trump in a Fox Business interview said he is against the funding for the United States Postal Service that Democrats are pushing for in a stimulus bill, with the president suggesting this is specifically because he wants to prevent universal mail-in voting during the COVID-19 pandemic. "Pure Trump," Biden said of these comments.

A bald eagle met a $950 drone mid-air last month and attacked the contraption, sending it plummeting into Lake Michigan, officials said Thursday. Hunter King with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy — also known as EGLE — was piloting the drone on a mission to map erosion along the shoreline on July 21. The drone had been in flight for seven minutes on its fourth day when King noticed satellite reception had gotten spotty near Escanaba in the Upper Peninsula, the agency said.

The website for anti-facist group Antifa redirected to Joe Biden's campaign website on Wednesday, which led some people to claim that the Democrats are connected to the organisation. For a few hours on Wednesday, Antifa.com redirected to JoeBiden.com, the campaign website of the presumptive Democratic candidate for president, before it returned back to the original page of the group Donald Trump has described as being run by “anarchists.” The president has attempted to categorise Antifa as a domestic terrorist organisation in recent months, following claims that some of its members engaged in violence at Black Lives Matter protests, but he is unable to do so as it is an umbrella term for various anti-facist groups.

A county on Maryland's Eastern Shore has voted to keep a memorial honoring Confederate soldiers, sparking a protest outside the meeting as activists said officials had used the coronavirus pandemic as an "excuse" to shelve the issue. The Talbot County Council voted 3 to 2 to keep the memorial on the lawn of the Talbot County Courthouse, The Washington Post reported. The “Talbot Boys” memorial commemorates more than 80 soldiers who fought for the Confederacy. A measure to remove the monument was introduced earlier this year following the death of George Floyd and the ensuing protests against racism and police brutality.
