Ocean City police say five people, four children and one adult, were transported to Atlantic General Hospital Friday night after a roller coaster incident at Jolly Roger Amusement Park. A 29-year-old man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in his Yuba City apartment during a standoff with police on Friday, according to a Yuba City police press release. Yuba City police Sgt. Brent Slade said that the woman and children had fled their apartment when she called.

Workers erected a wooden wall around Mexico City's iconic Angel of Independence monument Saturday after feminists defaced it with graffiti during a raucous protest over a string of alleged rapes by police. The deputy director of artistic patrimony at the National Fine Arts Institute, Dolores Martínez, said at the base of the statue that officials were assessing the damage to the Angel and other points in the capital that protesters attacked. A U.S. agreement to set up a safe zone in northern Syria, a close ally of Iran, is "provocative and worrisome", the Iranian foreign ministry was reported to have said by the semi-official Fars news agency. The United States and Turkey last week agreed to set up a joint operations center for a proposed zone along Syria's northeast border. The body of a French hiker who disappeared nine days ago south of Naples was found Sunday, local Italian authorities said. "The body of Simon Gautier has been found a short while ago," the authorities in Sapri, near Belvedere di Ciolandre where the 27-year-old hiker was found dead. Agents at the Otay Mesa cargo facility inspecting the truck discovered 4 tons of marijuana hidden inside the shipment of peppers, the agency reported. Officers seized 314 wrapped packages of pot, or 7,560 pounds of marijuana valued at $2.3 million, according to the agency.
