In the eight months before Cornyn's 1990 election to the state's highest court, seven Texas publications, including regional standard-bearers such as the Austin-American Statesman and the Houston Chronicle, published 10 profiles claiming that Cornyn had "graduated" from "the Judicial Studies Program" at Oxford. The profiles, archived versions of which were reviewed by Salon, ran from February until days before the election in November, with headlines like "Judge Promises 'Restoration of Integrity'" and "Cornyn's Record Makes Him Choice for Supreme Court." The latter article concluded by mentioning the Oxford program.
Vice President Mike Pence is not considered a favorite to emerge as the Republican Party's next presidential nominee. Earlier this month, The New York Times reported that the suggestion prompted laughter from several sources, while multiple GOP strategists expressed doubt to The Washington Post recently, as well. Mike Lindell, the Minnesota campaign chair for President Trump, said it will simply just "be harder for a career politician to be president going forward," but Alex Conant, who served as the campaign spokesman during Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-Fla.) 2016 presidential run, thinks Pence's ties to the Trump administration could mean the vice presidency will remain the apex of his political journey.
Invasive searches on female passengers from 10 aircraft at Doha's Hamad airport violated standard procedures, a preliminary report by the Qatar government found, saying those responsible for the "illegal actions" have been referred to the public prosecution office. The incident on Oct. 2, involving at least 13 Australian women on a state-owned Qatar Airways flight who were forced to disembark, and undergo invasive physical examinations in ambulances, drew a strong reaction from Australia this week. The search was prompted by the discovery of an abandoned newborn in a bathroom at the airport, and Australia said it was awaiting a Qatari government report.

Fox News personality Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson is being widely mocked after regaling viewers of his top-rated cable news program on Wednesday with a bizarre, evidence-free tale of deep state-style espionage directed against him by unknown forces who allegedly stole a sheaf of top-secret documents with "damning" information about the Biden family, as it was in transit to him via UPS. Carlson can now rest assured: On Thursday morning a UPS spokesperson reported that the company had found the missing contents. "After an extensive search, we have found the contents of the package and are arranging for its return," the spokesperson said by email.
President Trump made another visit to the swing state of Wisconsin on Friday evening, bringing some unfounded theories and repetitive rants along with him. For starters, Trump celebrated reports that Democratic nominee Joe Biden wasn't driving Black voter turnout, framing it in a way that made it seem like he was happy about the disenfranchisement. "The Black vote is not turning out for him," Trump said of Biden.
Every four years at the stroke of noon on Jan. 20, the president-elect or the reelected president of the United States takes the oath of office for a four-year term. When a Canadian border officer did some hurried research on the internet on 1 December 2018, the result left him "shocked". He had just been told that a Chinese woman was landing at Vancouver airport in a few hours and that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police had an arrest warrant out for her based on a US request. What the research revealed was that she was the chief financial officer of the Chinese telecoms giant Huawei and the daughter of the company's founder.
The night of Oct. 12 was like any other for former beauty queen Leanza Cornett, according to her roommate, Sue Roberts. Miss America 1993 was in her kitchen at her Jacksonville home when she accidentally fell, Roberts wrote on the Facebook page called “Leanza Cornett's Circle of Love.” The page was for the 49-year-old beauty queen's friends as well as employees at Walt Disney World, where Cornett had played Ariel in the live-action “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” show in the early '90s.
Joe Biden's presidential campaign canceled a Friday event in Austin, Texas, after harassment from a pro-Trump contingent. Texas has emerged as a battleground state in Tuesday's presidential election, with polls showing the typically Republican stronghold now only marginally favoring President Donald Trump. The Biden campaign scheduled a Friday event in the state, in a bid to drum up last-minute support.
During recent protests over the police killing of Walter Wallace Jr. in Philadelphia, the U.S.'s largest police union posted what looked like a sympathetic photo. A Philadelphia police office held a Black toddler, with a caption purporting he was found "walking around barefoot in an area that was experiencing complete lawlessness," the National Fraternal Order of Police's Facebook post said. Rickia Young was driving with her toddler son to pick up her 16-year-old nephew when she accidentally drove into an area where police and protesters were facing off.

A Florida man was mauled by a black panther - a leopard with excessive black pigments - during a $150 "full-contact experience" at a backyard enclosure near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, according to local media. Dwight Turner's injuries from the attack, which happened on August 31, were so bad that his scalp was "hanging from his head and his right ear was torn in half," his attorneys have said. The leopard was owned by Florida local Michael Poggi who, according to his social media pages, runs an animal sanctuary for rare and endangered animals in his backyard.
Joe Biden campaigners were forced to cancel an event in Texas on Friday as tensions flared in the key battleground state ahead of election day. Local Democrats said they were forced to pull the plug on a gathering scheduled to take place in Pflugerville – a small city about 17 miles north of Austin – due to "security reasons". It came as vice-presidential candidate, senator Kamala Harris, completed a whistle-stop three-city tour of the Lone Star state in a last-minute bid for votes.
Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old arrested for killing two people at a demonstration in Kenosha, Wisconsin, said he "ended a man's life" and shot "two white guys" when he turned himself in to police in Antioch, Illinois. The 17-year-old told officers he was "hired to protect businesses in Kenosha during the riots and had to protect himself." The documents also revealed new details about how Rittenhouse obtained the weapon used in the August 25 shooting.
The eradication of the first nest of Asian giant hornets on US soil somewhat resembled a science fiction depiction of an alien landing site. A crew of government specialists in white, astronaut-like protective suits descended upon the hornet nexus to vanquish it with a futuristic-looking vacuum cleaner, to the relief of onlookers. The nest of the fearsome invasive insects, notoriously known as “murder hornets”, was found in a tree crevice near Blaine, in Washington state, via a tracking device attached to a previously captured worker hornet.
President Trump told a small group of supporters at his Minnesota rally on Friday that the state's governor had advised him to cancel the event.

The committee's director Kevin McLaughlin, per the Post, explained last week that Trump is "losing Arizona" where "we think that he and [Sen. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.)] are very intrinsically tied together." With Trump down, McSally's Democratic challenger, Mark Kelly, is viewed by both sides as the favorite to take the seat.

Amid a disturbing rise in the number of conspiracy theories taking root in the US population, a new poll has found that nearly one in five people believe that the coronavirus pandemic is a “depopulation tactic”. The survey of 5,500 people also found that nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of Americans asked think that it's definitely, or probably, true that a Covid-19 vaccine “will be used maliciously to infect people with poison”. Only slightly more than half (56 per cent) said that they would take a Covid-19 vaccine, when polled last month.
A new CDC study suggests it's very easy to get the coronavirus from someone who's living in your household. The study authors said that people "who suspect that they might have COVID-19 should isolate, stay at home, and use a separate bedroom and bathroom if feasible." A US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report released Friday suggests that getting the coronavirus from someone you live with can be quick and easy, no matter their age.

The host said her costume was "inspired by the real superheroes of 2020," but Twitter users drew attention to the fact that DeGeneres' own character has continuously been called into question this year. Several others compared DeGeneres' nurse costume to the character of the evil Nurse Ratched from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

“Some undecideds turn out to be people who’ve long felt alienated from the two big political parties.”
“They’re not following the 24-hour news cycle. The election and politics are just not a high priority.”
“One common trait: at this stage of the game, the undecided voter doesn’t fit into an easy political profile.”
“More realistically...these voters may not be motivated to vote at all in the 2020 election.”
