Newton Restaurant Chosen To Receive $20K From DoorDash

NEWTON, MA — A Newton restaurant has been chased to participate in DoorDash's Main Street Strong Accelerator Boston program, part of the company's pledge to empower local communities by supporting entrepreneurship and access for historically under-resourced business owners.

Corner Cafe Newton, a small breakfast and lunch spot on Washington Street, is one of 17 restaurants that were selected to be part of the Boston cohort. Each restaurant will receive a $20,000 grant, one-on-one guidance and coaching, and the opportunity to network with other local restaurant owners.

"As we all know, the restaurant industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and has had incredible impacts on you," said Lt. Gov. Karen Polito in a video message congratulating the participants. "The last two years have been made tremendously difficult for the entire small business community, and especially our restaurants."

"Congratulations to the restaurants and their teams," she continued. "You have earned it.”

The Accelerator participants represent a diverse cohort of restaurateurs and business owners. Overall, 76 percent of Main Street Strong Accelerator participants identify as immigrant or refugee, 47 percent are women, and 70 percent are people of color.
