NEXT UP, BIG RUN: Dewey, OUHS qualify runners for state

With speed in her heels and fully-inflatable lungs, a handful of area high school cross country runners are headed to this week’s state meets.

Following are more details.

DEWEY GIRLS (4A): Tania Salinas stormed to 25th place at the girls regional in Enid to earn her spot at state as an at-large individual representing Dewey. She finished the two-mile run in 14:23.18.

Two other Dewey girls competed in the regional — Eden McKinney (72nd, 16:50.53) and Izzy Perry (79th, 17:05.81).

DEWEY BOYS (4A): Dewey entered a full time in the regional. The Doggers came in 12th as a boys team, far away from one of the top seven spots needed to qualify as a group. But, Dewey freshman Scott Horton earned the final at-large spot. He finished 36th (20:07.72).

The remainder of the team included: Daniel Jones (53rd, 21:09.25), Clayton Evans (58th, 21:22.88), Tre Hicks (94th, 24:48.38), Cooper Eutsler (100th, 25:23.47) and Teagen Crane (101st, 25:31.09).

OKLAHOMA UNION BOYS (2A): Nicolas Jackson stormed to 28th in the regional (19:47.56) to nail down a spot at state. The rest of the team included: Braiden Green (74th, 22:08.69), Jimmy Williams (80th, 23:39.31), Colton Wickham (98th, 24:15.62), James Bottoms (107th, 24:44) and Jack Campos (108th, 24:45.91).

WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN SCHOOL BOYS (2A): It didn't appear the Mustangs qualified anyone but they came out and ran hard, playing two in the 80. Leo Williams led the way (42nd, 20:31.38), followed by Isaac Valenzuelaaramburo (79th, 22:26.15), Jarrett Jensen (104th, 24:37.38) and Kaden Week (105th, 24:42.28).
