There’s only one more episode left in Hulu’s suspenseful Nine Perfect Strangers, and the stakes are high. The wellness retreat the characters all thought they were headed to turned into way more than just a fancy spa. There’s been romance, infighting, and a whole lot of drugs. And somehow amidst all of that, the characters have had major breakthroughs in their personal lives, like Frances coming to terms with getting catfished and her novel’s rejection, or social media influencer Jessica realizing she doesn’t need outside validation to love herself.
For anyone looking to start binging now, Nine Perfect Strangers follows, well, nine guests at a wellness retreat called Tranquilum. All come with some heavy baggage and reservations, but eventually the mysterious owner Masha (played by a creepy Nicole Kidman), manages to bring everyone’s trauma to light. According to her staff, the group Masha chose is way more volatile than the last one, and it’s only a matter of time before something goes wrong.
At the same time, Masha also has to deal with her sordid past when an unknown stalker begins leaving messages for her, proclaiming she’s going to die at the end of the week. Each episode, more information about the characters and their backstories is revealed, and more questions arise about how this strange retreat will end.
Such an intense story is bound to have an explosive ending. But will it come back for another season? Here’s everything we know.
Will there be a Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2?
In short, no. The longer answer is that the show is actually based on a novel by Liane Moriarty (also of Big Little Lies fame). Unless the show manages to deviate wildly from its source material, there’s probably not an opportunity for another season (Yes, Big Little Lies did a Season 2 on HBO that continued past the plot of the book, but the results were, frankly, underwhelming—and that's even with the already star-studded show adding Meryl Streep to the cast).
Plus, the show's plot rests on a life-changing 10-day retreat for everyone, even the staff. By the end of the series, there may not even be a Tranquilum to revisit.
