NEXT LEVEL: Tanner top weapon for ECU; Williams nails 16 in win; swimmers excel

A little less than halfway through his final season and Barron Tanner Jr. is putting up some strong numbers for the East Central University Tigers.

The Bartlesville High graduate is third on the team in scoring (10.6 ppg) and also is one of the top rebounders (3.7 ppg) to help the Tigers pounce out to a 6-4 record.

Tanner leads the teams in three-pointers with an impressive 23-of-61 (.451) and has missed only free throw (9-of-10, .900).

Tanner also leads the Tigers in blocked shots (five) and is third in steals (eight).

Tanner starred in basketball at Bartlesville and also played a year or varsity football.

He began his college basketball career at Northern Oklahoma College and transferred to Salem (W. Va.) University, where he played two seasons prior to arriving at East Central.

Rio Grande Valley women’s hoops

Williams turned in a blockbuster performance to help the UTRGV knock off Boise State, 72-60.

She came off the bench to play a team-high (tied) 29 minutes and lead the scoring sheet with 16 points (7-of-10 from the field). She also spoon-fed the offense with five assists, a rebound and a steal.

But, on Tuesday, Bowling Green gravitated to a 70-47 win at UTRGV.

Williams started and played all but five minutes. She hit a shot, dialed up three assists and made a steal.

Williams starred on Bartlesville’s 26-2 girls team (23-0 in the regular season) in 2017-18.

During her junior and senior seasons, Bartlesville recorded a cumulative win-loss mark of 44-10.

She played one year of college ball at the University of Nevada before moved on to Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas.

Florida Institute of Technology men’s swimming

Goddard swam the lead-off leg for the 200 medley relay ‘B’ team, which finished fourth in the Panther Invitational.

He also qualified for the ‘B’ final in the 100 butterfly and came in seventh.

Goddard fared even stronger in the 100 backstroke, hustling to fifth place in the ‘B’ Final.

Nebraska-Omaha men’s swimming

Peterson filled the second leg for the school’s 200 medley relay ‘B’ team, which finished runner-up at tri-school meet earlier this month.

He also powered to sixth place in the 50 backstroke.
