Next for Mac review

Next for Mac is a convenient tool for tracking your daily, weekly, and monthly expenses, and for viewing your spending patterns over time. All you have to do is input the amount and select a category, and the app does the rest, recording your total spending for each category as well as for the current month.

Pros

Easy inputs and export: To input an expense into this app, all you have to do is click the + icon to open the input window. From there, just enter the amount and pick a category from the list displayed below the entry boxes. You can also adjust the date, and if you'd like to see your data in a different format or save it for another purpose, you can quickly export it to an Excel sheet straight from the app.

Color-coding: As you make entries into various categories, the icons for those categories will darken to represent the relative amount you've spent in each one. When you switch to the monthly view, days with higher total spending will show up as darker than those with lower totals, so you can quickly see what you spend the most on and when.

Cons

No budgeting: There is no way to set a budget for the various spending categories included in this program. In fact, the app seems to have its own idea of how much is excessive for each category, and these preset ideals may or may not be in line with your own spending goals.

Bottom Line

Next for Mac provides a nice overview of your spending, with a convenient interface and a nice color-coding system. It would be nice if there was a way to customize your target spending for each category, but the program still fulfills on its promise.
